2x14TB drives both won't show up in Windows/Synology

But keep in mind CRC's could just be a cable or SATA header issue.

Portable SSD make a huge difference over a portable normal hard drive ?

As above. Buy a drive that matches the speed of the data drive and the interface. e.g. I have a 7200 rpm HDD on my server. I backup with a 7200RPM bare drive using a SATA hot swap bay. I could use eSATA as well. NVME I am currently using a SATA SSD through an eSATA dock but I could probably...

Like above. Mechanical device like speakers, therefore break in could be an issue.

am I asking too much from headphones?

I went through about ten pairs before I found some that I liked enough to keep. I suggest you buy used on one of the headphone sites and resell the ones you don't like to save money.

    80mm Fan Suggestions?

The Panaflo L1a was once my standard 80mm, but now I have gone with Nexus. I don't know about the Scythe, but I haven't been impressed by their 120mm fans.

Is a soundcard worth it for my 800$ system ?

Like someone above said, just send the digital signal straight out to the receiver and let it do the processing. The SR4002 is a nice piece of kit that will do a great job with the digital signal.

    Full ATX HTPC Case?

I did that with my first music server. A LC17B with some AMD parts I had found in a snowbank. Looked great and worked great.

    Full ATX HTPC Case?

I kind of gave up trying to find one, as there is no Canadian distributor, but as of a few months ago they were still shipping in the US with the old riser card. The riser card is for PCIe16x, so I would assume it fits in the second slot from the top...

    Full ATX HTPC Case?

Look around. The smallest case that takes a full ATX board I am aware of is the Silverstone LC-04. I believe Silverstone also makes a PCIe16x riser for it.

    who made this case?

Blast from the past or what! One of the most desirable cases from the PIII era. Lots of modding and overclocking going on with those at the time.

    Cases with washable dust filters

My Lian Li PC-B25B has washable filters that are relatively easy to access. I made the task even easier by cutting to fit some Demcifilters from performance PC's: http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=36_463_500

Any small form fit ATX mobo?

There are all kinds of cases. I think the smallest that handles full ATX is the Silverstone LC04, but you need to buy an additional riser card if you want to use add -on cards.

    DG45FC ICH10 temperature monitoring

???? I have that board and It comes with a utility that reads temps - "Intel Desktop Utility" . Speedfan also works for me. Maybe there is something you have to enable in BIOS? I set mine up a while ago, so I can't remember. One thing to watch is that it may not report the temp if it is...

    Female PCB mount ATX connectors?

Here is the overview page with all the available connectors: http://www.molex.com/molex/family/matrix.jsp?channel=Products&familyOID=-8371&frellink=None&chanName=family&pageTitle=Selection%20Matrix It appears that Molex does not make female headers.

The ATX connectors are Molex Mini-fit Jr's, so look on their website to see if there is anything that you could use.

    Soundcard or Reciever?

Just make sure you test the cable in something else before you go spending a lot of money. I have a 25' Toslink that works no problem from my DVD to my DAC, but Denon10000's link does make for interesting reading.

Technically, it depends on the circuit, but life is generally in the 1000's of hours 5-10,000 hours are possible. If you think it is done for, just buy another, 12AT7's are less than $10.

    Soldering guns...

I accidentally wrecked a surface mounted capacitor on one of my electronics devices. I bought some solder paste and managed to reattach the replacement capacitor by heating the legs with a very small tip on my Hakko. Worked like a charm. From that experience, I can see the appeal of...

What's the best QUIET air cooled heatsink for an i7?

I am running a Thermalright HR-01 Plus without a fan on my i-920. My case is a Lian-Li B25B with Nexus 120mm on three positions plus the 120mm PSU fan. The HDD cage is removed as well, so airflow is very good. Right now ambient is 28.2C and CPU is at -43C (from TJMax).

    Audio Hum Buzz Annoyance Kill

You have me beat. Remove all the inputs to the sound card and speakers (if any other than the soundcard) and see if it is still there. If it is, it is most likely a problem with the speakers. Maybe a loose connection. See if you can find something else to hook the speakers up to and test...

    Audio Hum Buzz Annoyance Kill

On new installs yes, but they just didn't have such thinks 70 years ago, like the house I live in. Not only that, but there is an anti-incentive to improve things, as any major revisions would require a city inspection. Not worth the risk to the owners, as a failure could result in a condemnation.

    Audio Hum Buzz Annoyance Kill

Is it a hum, or a his? Turn the volume up all the way on the computer then control the volume with the speakers and see if it is still there at normal listening level. Are there any long RCA interconnects? (say 20') That can sometimes cause a problem. At a minimum, the computer and...

    Audio Hum Buzz Annoyance Kill

If you have no ground in your outlets, then all the components should be "floating", thus no 60Hz hum. Are you connected to cable TV through a coax cable? If so, you are grounding through the coax, and that is the cause of the hum. In my experience, this is the cause of almost all 60Hz hum...

Mini-ITX case with two 3.5 internal

There's something funny about that. Newegg says 2x3.5", but the INWIN site adds something about: 3.5" HDD (1 T) x 1 3.5" HDD (0.8 T) x 1 I sent them an email last week asking what that meant, and have yet to receive a response. To bad for them, in the meantime I ended up ordering...

    Lian Li Hard Drive Screws?

That reminds me, I sent an email to Coolermaster two years ago about a replacement magnet for the the door of my old ATC-110 SX-1, but never reveived a response. It's amazing that these companies feel that spending $100's on their cases doesn't even entitle you to the common courtesy of them...

    Lian Li Hard Drive Screws?

The "grooved rubber peice" is just a rubber grommet like those you can pick up at home depot. If you want to be fancy, you can pick up some "thermalplastic mounts", which do the same basic job. Regardless, check performance PC's. This kit may have the screws and grommets you need...

Data backup: how are you doing it?

I backup everything to an external harddrive a couple of times a year. Once a month I search on all the files created since the last backup, and backup those. This way I don't have to spend hours backing up the whole drive. Kind of a poor mans incremental backup. Of course important...
