Hey everyone,
long time no post.
I just moved back to the US and am received a big ass Samsung flatscreen (42 inch) from a friend.
I have an Acer 3820TG that handles my basic gaming needs (Tf2, L4D2 etc.) but I wanted to get a Zacate HTPC setup for the media server / tv / MAME / light...
I've got a bluetooth travel keyboard (from my old N800) so hopefully that will hep with the iPad.
Envy looks great, it is pricier and I'm a little tepid on HPs...
Hey there,
I'll admit I'm a netbook buying / regretting soul who can't stand the sheisty 10.1" screen and pew pew power of my 1000HE.
I travel a lot for business
There are two types of travel I do:
a few days on-site with a client
a few weeks on-site with a client
For the...
a friend of mine took her macbook to apple and they said the logicboard was dead. she gave it to me because she didn't want to pay the $1000 or whatever to fix it.
is it worth it to try and replace the logicboard or should I just part the rest of the system out - everything else is in pretty...
Hey everyone,
I travel a lot for my job and use a small netbook for the day to day internet stuff,
but i'd like to be able to bring a real work station with me wherever I go.
I don't have a budget for something like a mac book pro or high end gaming laptop but figured maybe a SFF would be...
cirrico -
yeah i dunno. I did reclean the nvidia drivers and all my browser problems went away as well - however it works i guess.
darklcd - thanks for the hint, i'll keep my eyes peeled for this.
think i figured it out - digsby runs a wrapper.exe in the background even after I closed it (lil bastid) that messes with L4D.
now I'm running things on high or very high with 2xAA and it's working fine at 1600 x 1050.
THANKS EVERYONE! I really appreciate it.
Gonna use driver sweeper...
ok i think this definitley an nvidia driver issue.
cuz now my browsers (both ff and chrome) are going whack with rendering images and text...
damnit...
First: $45 for a CPU is the best I can do now. Especially only playing Steam games.
Second: Gotta go with what I've got - and Server 2k3 runs screamingly better than xp for everything I've used it for, including TF2.
Answer: 1600 x 1050 (native) and 1280 x 1024 - no dice on either working...
as soon as I start playing, online, offline, campaign whatever
lags like a beoutch, slow response to key inputs and mouse look, everything seems really delayed.
I updated the Nvidia driver at Steam's request which was a bit of a pain (had to convince it that 2k3 was xp) but like I said, i...
TF2 runs absolutely fantastic at full or high everything and 2xAA
e2180 oc'd at 2.8ghz

eVga 8800gs 348mb oc'd
windows 2k3 32bit.
what gives?
I bought this on newegg when it came out but it's not the camera for me, i'm looking for something much more professional.
here's a link to the camera's specs...
I need two laptop hard drives, size does not matter (it's heart that counts, right? :D )
perfer 1gb and up but will take anything over 500mb.
don't want too pay much more than shipping for these as this project is already getting expensive.
let me know what ya got!
my mac mini solo runs parallels fine with 2gb of ram.
it doesn't scream and I probably couldn't run games on it, but for word processing, picasa 2 and a couple of programs that are windows exclusive, i'm pretty happy with it.
lookin for a good quality 1gb drive (unless you've got a 2gb for real cheap :D).
also if you've got a pata 2.5" drive 60gigs and up for cheap (4200 is fine) i'm interested, but i want to know if it's a pull or if it's got any bad sectors.
thanks!
there's a lot of x31s for sale at anandtech for $225 a piece, but it's still over what i want to pay.
i was thinking about an old thinkpad 600x maybe... I know that's heavier but maybe more durable and cheap.
i want something light and portable that is very rugged. any time i travel (in africa, asia or south america) my laptop is always with me, bumping into people, being packed on trains, following out of tuk tuks, all sorts of crap.
i live in a constant fear of hd crashes, or just freak...
trying to find the cheapest possible solution to use this:

basically I want to build a light system (thinking thinkpad 240) that will run puppy linux - an on the go work station...
