My wife is going to let me spend about $2k, so I need some advice. This is for gaming and it will be a dual-boot Vista/Ubuntu box. My questions are:
AMD or Intel?
Best chipset for each platform?
More RAM or more video card?
Crossfire or SLI?
Air or liquid cooling?
Best TV capture...
I recently found this and like it quite a bit as well. The tabs are goofy sometimes, but other than that a great editor. The VBS dictionary file that you download off the site is ugly as sin though. If you plan to do any VBS, create your own. :-P
Forget about the graphics. The gameplay mechanics of UT2K4 are 100x better than Halo 2. Halo 2 is slow, the weapons are unbalanced, the radar is stupid. I feel like I am crawling when I play Halo 2 vs when I am playing UT2K4. The fanbois are going to unite, but in my personal opinion, Halo 2...
You failed to mention if your games are performing smoothly or not. If they are, who cares? 3DMark is pretty much useless when it comes to benchmarking actual performance.
It won't get them anything for the first 5 minutes.
I second the vote for PGP. All of my personal data, Quicken stuff, tax returns, scans of personal documents, etc. are kept on a PGP encrypted external hard drive. I wouldn't have it any other way.
You have Home, but you are pirating Pro? 90% of home users are not even using the features of Pro, especially if, as you state yourself, you want Windows to play games. I would almost bet you aren't using the features of Pro. In that case, you are a pirate to be a pirate, just like 99% of the...
It's not very good for a logo. When trademarking a logo, your lawyer will definitely suggest that it be clearly readable in black and white and in any size. I don't really feel any of those fit the bill. Consider revising the colors you are using as well. Blue and green colors according to...
Rodriga Costa, Microsoft's OEM Chief, will tell you something entirely different. He'll tell you their prices are based on volume. Since the specifics of the OEM pricing are confidential and I am speaking of something akin to how my company's partnership with Dell and Microsoft work, I know it...
Well, I looked through all the DataGrid code I have and it's all columns with records from a db, I am not passing any GUIDs or special characters. I'll look through the link [MS] posted and see if I can help point you in the right direction.
On EDIT: Check out the second link he posted...
Whatever, if you use it, it's worth paying for. And if you think the only difference between XP and 2k is the cutesy features you are sorely mistaken. Keep proving my point...another elitist who thinks he is too good to pay for Windows.
The only DataGrid code I have is VB6 and Visual InterDev stuff, but I will pull it up and see what I have to see if there is anything comparable to what you are trying to do.
This is correct and it has to be for personal use only, you are not allowed to rebroadcast them. I have every episode of Lost and CSI:NY on my hard drive. I just don't have time to watch them during the week.
If your eBay auctions fall through, PM me and we'll talk. I see you are in Fremont. I will be at a VS Live in San Francisco the week of February 6th and would be more than happy to meet in person for the exchange.
I didn't and I didn't really mean to point fingers at you, I was speaking in a more general tone. Whether MS should require activation is a whole other debate. Personally I am against it, but I still believe people pirate because they can not because of the cost.
Say what you will, theft is theft. Microsoft can charge whatever the hell they want. They make a quality product or you all wouldn't be using it. People like to bitch about Windows, but I don't see you all running out and switching exclusively to Linux either.
That's a sad attitude really. Most people wouldn't dream of walking into Best Buy and stealing a stereo, but that same person will go home and pirate an operating system or another piece of software without a second thought. It's just odd that people can't make the distinction between theft of...
You could boot safe mode and delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum reg key. That will cause Windows to rescan all the hardware. Make sure you have all your driver disks handy if you do this.
Everyone is going to point the finger at Microsoft for doing this, but it's not their fault. It's the fault of the user. It's like stealing a Mercedes and taking it to the dealer for warranty work. I don't know about you, but I don't think they would honor the warranty on a stolen vehicle.
Personally speaking, battling spyware has to start with the user. Too much reliance is being put on applications to fix your problems for you. Start with some common sense, a little more strict security settings when browsing and a good knowledge of the OS and registry and you'll be better...
I should also clarify, THIS IS NOT A SHELL REPLACEMENT. It just allows developers access to the WinFX APIs. Don't install this thinking you will have a WinFX shell when you are done because you most certainly will not.
You can all run this MSI, it doesn't make any changes to your machine. It just drops an ISO and some documentation down. This is definitely something you do NOT want to do on your home machine though. This is purely meant to be done in a testing environment. Here is the readme file:
