Helping a friend install a PNY GT 240 in his rig and the screen will go black. I think I've narrowed it down to the card being bad or possibly the power supply.
The rig is:
psu: generic Rosewill 550 watt psu
cpu: AMD Phenom II X2
mobo: AsRock A770DE+
RAM: 3x1gb DDR2 800 RAM

Trying to build a low budget rig for friend around this fry's combo.
AMD Phenom II X2 555 Dual Core CPU + MSI 785GTM-E45 AM2+ Motherboard combo $77 AR @ Fry's B&M
1) What will you be doing with this PC?
2) What's your budget? Around $200
3) What's the system for? Gaming
I think we'll...
Does anyone know a good solution for Quad Displays? I would need to be able to run cloned or spanned desktop.
I know that I could get a Quadro NVS 440, but would a regular gaming card plus DVI splitter work sufficiently?
Thanks
Does anyone know a good site to read up on these parts (general info, price etc)? (Scan converters/Catv modulators/Channel Filter Eliminators)
I need to take video from my computer and output it to lots of TV screens over a Cable TV channel broadcast.
Thanks!
This is about a 2 year old card.
Recently I've been getting random colored pixels that look like dead pixels all over my screen.
If I move my browser around I'll get a string of pixels in the direction I move my browser.
There are also times when my computer will freeze up when...
I need to get some data off of a laptop hard drive. Can I just connect the laptop hard drive to a 3.5" external HDD case and get the data onto my PC?
I mean are the connectors the same specs for a laptop HDD as a PC HDD?
I accidently left my external HDD plugged in when I was about to format my C: drive.
I only got to the step where I deleted the partitions. So now my external is blank when I plug it into my laptop.
Is there anyway to recover the data since I didn't actually format yet?

I just built a new budget PC with the 805D and ECS mobo that has onboard graphics. For some reason the LCD monitor will turn on and off going into no signal mode.
Is this more likely a issue with the LCD or the onboard graphics of the mobo. I was hoping it was just the VGA plug not being...

I'm building a comp for a friend with the Pentium D 805/ECS mobo combo from Frys (It's a budget build), and when I power on it will load screen where it's checking the cpu/RAM etc, and then the PSU just shuts off.
The cpu/mobo/psu are all brand new.
Oh, now the power supply doesn't even...
I installed XP on my C: drive and Vista RC-1 on my D: drive. I have since formatted the D: drive through the Computer Management settings. However, when I boot my comp it still asks whether I want to boot Vista or XP.
How do I get rid of the Vista option and just boot straight into XP?
I'm building a budget rig for a friend from the Pentium D 805/ECS mobo deal from Fry's here.
What's a good aftermarket cooler for the Pentium D 805?
I found this one here from Compusa.
then there's this one here from Frys.
I'm trying to keep the budget in the $20 and under range.
Just wondering if anyone is having trouble with the audio input on the DS3. I can't seem to record audio that's coming from the computer.
I installed the Realtek drivers, but still no go. :(
Just curious, but if you get a virus on your boot drive, does the virus infect other drives in your system? So do you have to formate things like the storage drive as well?
Are the nvidia vista drivers just completely plain or am I missing something? There are like no options in the control panel and I can't get into classic view. So no coolbits, temp monitoring and nview options?
For some reason when I go to standby on this mobo, the monitor shuts down, windows goes on standby, but my fans are still spinning on my system. Is there an option I missed in BIOS or in Windows?
Also is anyone having issues with the Realtek onboard sound. I mean playback is fine, but...
I recently got a 50mm fan for the northbridge of my DS3. It comes with these tiny power connectors, and I don't know where to plug the darn thing into. Do I have to buy some other converter?
It's not the normal 4 pin, but it looks like the same plug that the cpu fan uses on the mobo...

evga 7600gt KO
This card is basically brand new. I need to sell because I got in on a 7900gt deal from BB. The card comes with the box and accessories. I also have not registered the card so the buyer will have the warranty and should also be able to step up in 3...
What are some good drivers for the 7600gt? It's odd but it seems different drivers give me different temps on the card. The latest 91.31 gives 55idle and about 75 full load. Then I tried the default drivers from the evga cd, i think it's 83.61 or something like that. A whopping 70 degrees...
So if your RAM is rated at 2.1vdimm does that mean that it will not POST with anything lower than that? The reason being that I have the DS3 and some OCZ RAM for my build, which I will put together once my 7600gt is here.
I asked OCZ and they said it should, but they don't have the board to...
I'll be upgrading to Conroe and PCI-E. I was reading in the Video Card sticky that the PCI-E cards use a 6 pin connector.
Does that mean I need a completely new psu to power my new build?
I'm on a 420W ATX 1.3 (Raidmax psu). Do I need to be on ATX 2.01? And why would you need multiple...
Just thought it odd and interesting. Amid all the buzz about Conroe and Woodcrest, why has Dell chosen to go with the A.M.D. Opteron for it's server market...
I've had my Dell for a few months now, and just the other day I noticed that there is something that looks like burn in on the monitor only when the background is gray. It's like a vertical bar that looks like the sides of 2 windows cascaded next to each other.
Is there a way to get rid of this?
