You would most likely need to do a format of windows when you put in your new motherboard. Seeing as how it'll be a completely different chipset, chances are it might not even boot into windows, and if it does, you'll probably take some performance hits and instability as well. Safe thing to do...

Just install the forceware from nvidia, they work fine with the msi cards. Edit: oops sorry, posted without finish reading the rest of your post. I didn't encounter this with my old msi card, as soon as I uninstalled the msi drivers and installed the normal drivers, those tabs would go away...
