Well, when I said cheaper, I should have specified. The 3000 and 3200 are a steal when you buy them from most retailers. The only CPU that's being over priced right now is the 3500. But I haven't been paying much attention to the price on the 3500, I've been keeping my eye mainly on the 3000...
Don't get the .13 micron CPU. It has little or no benefit over the 90nm version. The 90nm is cooler, oc's better because it's cooler, and it's cheaper. Some reviews even show it's a little bit faster per clock. It's not much, but every little bit helps. ;)
hey, Runner, does your AV8 unlock the higher multipliers on your winchester, or do you have only the FSB to OC with, if you oc? and yes, i anticipate having bios problems. i read about some of that crap on reviews people put on newegg. but thanks 4 the tip.
archevilangel, does the Abit AV8 unlock the higher multipliers on the Winchester?, or are they locked to begin with. i don't like having only the FSB to tinker with while i'm OCing.
it is electrically conductive, that's why you're not supposed to get it around the small resistors on the bartons and previous cpu's. i think your problem is #1. and, BTW, i'd get an abit AV8. sounds like a really great board to me. that's the one i'll be going with when i get my winchester.
see sig for my oc and cooling. it's pretty obvious that the barton has quite a bit of potential for ocing. i'd say after you run it at 180-185mhz fsb for a while you should be able to run it at 200mhz x 11. even with the stock cooler.
my vote goes to OpenGL. i'm an id fan all the way, can't go wrong with John Carmack's programming. i think OpenGL's better because in the hands of the right programmer, it seems to be more optimized than directx, probably because you have more control over rendering paths than with directx...
dude, i run Doom 3 at high quality, 1024x768 with 2xAA and 4xAF without pretty descent performance on my OC'd 9600 pro. sure, sometimes it dips into the lower 20's, but it's still very playable. system specs in sig.
yeah, sometimes if i can't figure out how to get by a part, i'll play through it in godmode, then go back and play it through, cuz i don't wanna be completely lame. godmode is a handy thing. :D
quakecon is THE ultimate LAN experience, it's about the greatest thing ever... if i were you, i would get there on the 12th, and, that number that they gave you for the waiting list, doesn't mean shit. just get in the fcfs line thursday afternoon, and you'll most likely be in. they've never...
you know, someone rather wise once said "1/5 of the people are against everything all the time"... don't be the 1/5th, we all know you like the game, just admit it. ;)
i'm not talking about the rendering engine (the graphics engine), i'm talking about the game code, the programming that drives the AI, weapons, physics, menu, etc. this has always been released by id to the general public for making mods for their games. it's something John Carmack usually makes...
lol, i was lucky NUMBER 1 in line, i got to be the person that started the line, i think i remember you there, Kyle Bennett was talking to us, and people were taking pictures of us, me, my brother, and my friend. and several of the id employees came and talked to us. it felt really cool to be...
i'd go for the BFG 6800 OC if you only wanna spend $300, but they don't come out until Aug. 15th. But , i'd try to get the extra $100 and get a BFG 6800 GT OC, cuz it has the 256mb of memory, the games coming out are requiring more and more video memory, and even to play Doom3 on ultra quality...
wtf do you expect from an alpha? the same quality as a finished product? not on something that was never meant to be released to the public in the first place. take a look at some of the new screens from [H]ard|OCP, or even better, go buy the game, then make your judgement on IQ.
selling the game before the release date is a violation of an agreement they have to make when they order their shipment from what i have heard. when i called bestbuy in lewisville, texas and asked them about buying it now, the guy told me that activision would fine them 10k if they sold it...
just called best buy in lewisville, tx and it's no go for selling doom 3 before august 3rd. the guy from lewisville said "if we sell the game before the release date, activision fines us $10,000". that would suck.
