Would an opteron really need to be Multi-cored? I thought the primary purpose of multi-cores was to introduce desktop owners/enthusiats to workstation class design and performance.

Hey guys..just wondering whats the best mobo out for a Opteron or FX chip. I'm tired of waiting for these 939s to drop and by the time they do I will have enough for a high end gaming rig like an Opteron or FX setup. Seeing as they're both 940...i'd just upgrade as needed with the Opteron chips...

I would take the FX 53 and see how far I can push it. Pound for pound round for round...i'd say the FX would win hands down in gaming and most apps with some better cooling. Imagine that thing at 2.8-3.0ghz!

To shift a bit. It seems to me that AMD is catching up considerably with the encoding, editing, burning etc. perspective of things while Intel continues to struggle on the gaming side. Anyone else noticing this?
