yeah, I still have my a64 cpu somewhere. At one point it had a makeshift peltier on it. Who would have ever thought modding computers would have turned into an entire industry.
I think for at least a small time I held a record overclock. celeron 600@1100 100% benchmark stable and @1200 windows...
This guy definitely remembers Lantec. I definitely remember your uid. I feel like lantec is one of the first things I ever remember being even close to "viral" or a "meme" in any community I was a part of back then. you didnt really have the backstory and the depth in the IRC format.
so the...
holy shit genmay. that was probably the beginning of my exposure to the weirdness of the internet.
not out of the pokey. perhaps relating to what one might call a mid-life crisis I am trying to reidentify with the things that I actually enjoy and that fuel me. Life kind gets the best of you (or...
Just an old crusty guy from way back checking in. I miss getting my hardware news from [H]. This place allowed me to cut my teeth as a young geek and learn things I never could have otherwise.
There is no general forum anymore so delete if against the rules. This sub seems to fit what I...
Pretty happy with mine so far. Running 4k@60hz for desktop, Text isn't as good as my SE39UY04 running 4k @ 30hz, due to the reduced chroma I reckon.
That said, once you fire up any game and aren't locked to 30hz, it's amazing. What a difference in games like GTA or even P.Cars, not to...
In the market for a couple of laptops.

I actually took her outside yesterday and blew it all out with the compressor... it was bad but not terrible. I also kicked my fans up to high on the case (they had been on low through the winter). That may have made a big difference, and now I'm monitoring temps on the 2nd monitor so I can see...
So is the consensus here still that there is no reason to upgrade a 2600k @ 4.4? I've been having strange issues that I cant seem to pinpoint and it seems easy to blame the overclock. I would consider upgrading motherboard/cpu/ram to get onto fresh components... but I dunno.
I'm getting...
For me a 39-42" would be perfect... still looking to replace my Seiki 39"
I wonder how long we will have to wait, or if such a set will ever exist, as most people seem to want larger displays. I use it for a pretty even mix of desktop and gaming. Movies are handled mostly by my trusty 55" 1080p...

If you weren't using the other speakers before, then it really depends on what you want to do. I've never been a surround guy. I like listening to music cleanly and accurately from 2 properly positioned channels (room acoustics ignored here, I don't have the ability to do much about that until I...
So is it worth it to have an SSD for OS ONLY?
because a 40gb isnt going to go much farther. On top of that, is the "slow" kingston cheep SSD going to be better then the raid0 with blacks.
Does Raid0 negatively effect access times?
Does gaming (i guess FPS is what matters here?) heavily rely...
it doesnt seem worth it for a 40gb ssd, unless i get 2 and raid them.
I feel like the 2 blacks in raid0 will be so much faster then what I currently have, that i'll be fine for a while.
The machine is used for gaming, media center, general nonsense... all things really.
trust me, I understand. However my budget does not allow for the SSD's at the moment :(. I was also running out of storage space, so this kind of bridges the gap. Then, when the ssd's become affordable, I can turn the array into separate disks for storage and run the ssd as a primary.
sucks...
ordered 2 750gb blacks from newegg for 79 each, So i'll raid them and make my 500gb just a swap shit around/backup drive.
sweet. Can't wait for a real system again.
SSD's can wait.
Okay, I might just skip it (SSD RAID) for now and get a 1tb WD black.
so for a OS drive, no contest, the WD Black will be faster then my 36gb Raptor? I just want to make sure.
HMMMMM maybe two 500/750gb WD blacks in Raid 0? viable?
