1366 x58 Xeon Enthusiast overclocks club

Well guys and girls, it's been since about 2009 on my X58 setup. It has lived 100% stable and reliable with an X5670 at 4.2Ghz for many many years. But I have just put together a Z790 setup with a 13600k. It's hard to believe I had not put together a new PC for 13 years. Who would have ever...

1366 x58 Xeon Enthusiast overclocks club

It's been a long time, but I remember doing some quick research regarding dual channel vs triple channel and the performance was better in triple channel. I personally have been successful with 6 slots populated (6 x 2GB) and am able to run a 4.2GHz stable for over a year now.

This will go precisely nowhere. Although I am glad to hear about it. The best option is to not participate in these platforms if you are concerned. Unfortunately, even that doesn't assure you avoid having your information shared though.

"No Survivors": Second New Boeing 737 to Crash in Four Months

It would have to be proven that they knowingly let a faulty design into production/operation. That'll keep the lawyers busy for the next decade or so. And there will be no clear answer in the end.

"No Survivors": Second New Boeing 737 to Crash in Four Months

I think you are referring to AF447. Totally different plane, different manufacturer, different issue all together.

"No Survivors": Second New Boeing 737 to Crash in Four Months

My generalized guess is that this is a new variant and these pilots are not experienced to deal with the behavior of this plane. It took out of the norm behavior (faulty sensor, etc) to cause unexpected behavior and the pilots did not know how to handle it. Now, this could be a design issue...

1366 x58 Xeon Enthusiast overclocks club

I would recommend an x5670 or x5675 given today's low prices. Ram will be perfect. Set memory multiplier to 8x and blck to 200. Then ram runs at 1600 mhz. Then CPU becomes 200 x 21 for 4.2 Ghz. Or 200 x 20 for 4.0 Ghz, etc.

1366 x58 Xeon Enthusiast overclocks club

The 6 core xeons are a significant jump up. I mean, you are only spending like $20 or $30 bucks to get a used xeon these days. It's pretty much a no brainier. You can barely go to the movies for that cost. Obviously, I can't make you any guarantee, but they will all do 3.8-4.0 easily. It's...

One of the Biggest At-Home DNA Testing Companies Is Working with the FBI

Yep, lots of people falsely/incorrectly accused for crimes. The DNA thing though has been typically used to solve old rape and murder cases that had gone cold. They had old DNA evidence on file but were not able to make a match when the case was new (or technology didn't exist, etc). Humans...

Waymo Expands Its Self-Driving Vehicle Operations in Michigan

Agreed on most of your points. I guess I'll be the one to say that there is a possibility a human driver could have quickly swerved left to avoid a direct hit with the bicyclist. Of course that means the car may have potentially lost control and caused injury or death to the driver. Either...

Apple is Allegedly Entering the Camera Count Arms Race

Unless Apple changes something, I see them getting left behind long term. Their whole business revolves around phones. No one cares about ipads, imacs, etc. Apple appears stagnant to me, and the their pricing leaves them open to competition stealing the market. Companies are afraid to drop...

Saw this in the news earlier. Anyone caught flying a drone near an airport and causing these kind of disruptions needs to be brought up on some serious charges.

For anyone genuinely interested in how often bird strikes occur on commercial aircraft, head over to avherald.com and type in bird strike in the search field. Happens multiple times per week.

Boeing 737 Passenger Jet Damaged in Possible Midair Drone Hit

Dual engine failure. Flocks of birds. Fortunately, rare. Still scares me a bit to know about when I fly. In reality (and thankfully), single engine failure is far more common and dealt with by skilled pilots. Engine failure scenarios at take off and landing are probably one of the most...

Boeing 737 Passenger Jet Damaged in Possible Midair Drone Hit

Read the aviation news almost daily and drones are a frequent concern. I think this might be the first to actually collide with a plane though. This ranks up there with the morons that shine lasers at airliners.

VW Says Combustion Cars Will Fade Away after 2026

VW Says Combustion Cars Will Fade Away after 2026

I feel like this is some marketing/publicity hoopla. Ford said something similar recently if I recall correctly. Not sure what their angle is. Maybe they are hoping to public will go for it, or maybe they are looking to image their brand in a new way. I don't see the oil companies letting...

Google and Facebook Cross "The Creepy Line"

This is nothing new, and it is far too late for this generation. The only thing we can try to do is change the way things are handled in the future. Now that I have a child, I really wonder what his life will be like 20-30 years from now. We are headed in a terrible direction with no regards...

    Windows 10 Version 1809 Is Getting a Re-Release Today

I agree with you. I am openly critical of a lot of things at my work. Some people think I'm just complaining. But the truth is I'm trying to get things smoothed out. I guess my point is I haven't come across any particular operating system that was truly excellent in all ways.

    Windows 10 Version 1809 Is Getting a Re-Release Today

Everyone loves to hate on Windows. I have been forced to use an iMac at work for 10+ years now and the macOS is no model of perfection either. I will still take my supposedly crappy Windows 10 PC over this iMac all day long.

    Nvidia Fakes the Moon Landing

So serious. Haha, used to have a co-worker that got on a kick about moon landing hoax. I think he was just baiting people for an argument. But he was so easily influenced, that a simple youtube video had him convinced I think. There were so many people involved to develop the technology and...

Steve Wozniak: AI Will Never Be Smart Enough to Drive a Car

Fair enough. But the point is that one small technical snafu took down the entire operation momentarily. Obviously there would need to be redundancy in the design to make it safe and reliable (which can be done). I admit I do not like change. But I can see the positives of autonomous...

Amazon Raises Minimum Wage to $15 for All US Employees

We perpetuate our own economical problems. Everyone wants more more more. From the top to the bottom. From the beginnings of raw materials, all the way to the final product going out the door, and everything in between. Housing, food, fuel, utilities, life in general. Put it together, look...

Steve Wozniak: AI Will Never Be Smart Enough to Drive a Car

I thought of this as well. Nothing like an entire network of vehicles disabled due to a glitch or a hacker. Kind of like the entire fleet of Delta airlines being grounded last week due to a central computer problem. I also don't like the feeling of being a "drone" in my own vehicle. I...

Steve Wozniak: AI Will Never Be Smart Enough to Drive a Car

I can get my head around self driving cars on the highway and other long distance roads where traffic moves and is relatively patterned/predictable. But put 20,000 AI cars at the football stadium all leaving at the same time and that's where I start to question if the logic can be perfected...

One in Three TripAdviser Reviews are Fake

I generally believe that real people don't take much time to write positive reviews. So the real reviews are more likely to be the bad reviews. How often have you gone home from a good restaurant and wrote a positive review? But if you have a terrible experience, it is far more likely you'll...

Far Cry Classic (PC version) for 57 cent

Far Cry Classic (PC version) for 57 cent

Brings back memories. And I am in the camp that the first one was the best one. I remember going for the highest overclock, and tweaking my old 9800 Pro just to get the most out of this game. It was open world, yet still had a linear mission pattern. And it was ahead of it's time in terms of...
