You know I'm thinking of building out a similar setup using the same MoBo. I don't intend to do SLI but I would like to use my old 7900GT to drive a couple additional monitors with my 8800GT pushing a new Dell 24".
The thing is, I noticed that the second PCIe slot is a x16 slot but only...
MCE support 2 HD (Over the Air) and 2 SD tuners. To get more than 2 of either you'll need to put in a little extra effort.
Here's a blog post from one of the Microsoft MCE Dev guys: http://blogs.msdn.com/peterrosser/archive/2006/04/03/MCE_TechTalk_1.aspx It's a great write up on how to get as...
I believe until recently BR was floundering on the MMC support in AACS. It was when HP (I think) threatened to pull their support from the BR group that Sony and the rest gave in and signed on to full AACS support.
And it's worth noting that most cable companies encrypt the digital channels so you'll probably be SOL in the end anyway.... At least until Vista and CableCards ship.
Here you go: mceBackup
And for the record I've never run into not being able to playback old shows on a New install. In fact, since you can watch MCE recorded shows on ANY WinXP PC that has SP2 and a DVD (Mpeg2) Decoder. I doubt very much that this problem actually exists, at least prior to...
It's been my experience that usually a significant amount of noise from an on-board sound card comes from having the output Volume/Gain too low coming out of the soundcard...
At any rate, most after market soundcards have a S/N of 100dB+.
Get the HD-DVR box from Time Warner. There is currently no way to record Pay Cable HD content to a PC. There is an outside chance you might be able to get something going if you get an STB with Firewire, but it's HIGHLY unlikely.
Although I won't be making a purchase until March sometime, I'm almost in the same boat. I've decided to go with DLP or Plasma, if I can find a good/great deal on a plasma bigger than 42". Samsung makes excellent DLPs, and Panasonic Makes Nice Plasmas and pretty good DLPs too.
At anything...
Yep, the problem is the Broadcast Flag itself wasn't struck down. What actually happened is the courts decided that the FCC doesn't have the authority to mandate manufacturers to support the Broadcast Flag.
So basically that just moves the fight to the Legislature. Broadcast Flag supporters...
Count me in! Let us chose the source media. Personally I like the USB idea, it'll give me something to do with the 32MB thumbdrive I got in a Swag Bag at some convention...
From what I understand is Philips manufactures the Microsoft branded remote for Microsoft. There is a difference between the 2 though. The Microsoft branded remote has a programable button to power on/off you TV. The Philips does not. If you look at the pictures of the 2 remotes, you'll notice...
My File server has 2 x 250GB and 2 x 80GB drives JBOD style for DVDs. 1 x 15GB for OS(Linux). My HTPC has 1 x 200GB for TV recording, and 1 x 30GB for OS(MCE2k5).
The Remote is IR only, it doesn't come with an IR Reciever so you'll have to buy that seperate. When I first built my HTPC I bought the generic MCE remote that does come with a USB IR Receiver. The 680 works perfectly well with that.
I think most would agree the current de facto standard PVR card are the cards by Hauppauge. the PVR-250, PVR-150, and the PVR-500.
That said, it really depends on what you are wanting to do, and what the source material is (Cable, DigiCable, DirecTV, HDTV...)
My Ordernumber and zip code are already there, AND if I re-enter them it just brings me back to the same Error.
BTW 2 of my friends have exactly the same error.

GIF - Graphic(s) Interchange Format, so barrowing the Guh sound from Graphics, it's Gif(t)
Gib - Gib isn't an acronym, it is short for Giblets which has a "J" sound, so Jib
I feel Old because no one has mentioned "DOS", I pronounce it "Doss" (rhymes with Boss)... I don't know anyone...
The funny thing about the install process of Windows MCE 2005 is, if you put in a Windows XP Pro license Key, it will happily install Windows XP Pro and NOT Windows MCE 2005.
If you don't have the MCE App on the Start menu you'll have to reinstall. Make sure you use the key on the OEM package...
#4, I've never seen a encoder card with Component inputs
OTA HD is all you'll be able to record, There are a couple OTA HD tuners out there. ATI makes the HD Wonder (I think that's the name) for this.
MCE records tv in "MS-DVR" (or DVR-MS don't remember forsure). Basically it's MPEG2 with...
I wouldn't expect it to happen anytime soon either. DRM is the sticking point. I think there might some firewire soultions out there but I don't know who or where.
You might ask again at http://www.avsforum.com or http://www.htpcnews.com
How about, a DB server in both locations, then setup data replication between the 2 DB servers? I don't see a reason to send all the transactions back and forth, just changes to the DB.
I guess that really brings up another question, what type of Database are you running?
I/we use SprintPCS. It has a feature called "Shortmail" that is limited to 256 characters which we use for most alarms. If that's not enough space to get the message across you can also access "WebMail" which is your basic low-bandwidth Email.
The reason I asked about the Defrag is, to me, it doesn't sound like network lag. It sounds like application lag when transactions are being written/read from the Database. Do you have any support from the Vendor of this software? It might be something like the DB needs to be re-indexed...

Unless something has changed in the last couple years, 56K modems are Asymmetric. The download rate can be up to 53.3Kbps, the upload Maxes out at 33.6Kbps. So if you do the math, 53300 / 8 = 6.6KBps Max, through in some overhead and the fact you are only connecting at 44Kbps and you get the...
There's nothing Really special about the uplink port. All it does is swap the Rx with Tx.. Just like a crossover cable.
And yes you can hook a cable modem to multiple computers with a hub. You just have to get an internet route-able IP address for each of the computers.
