Entirely translucent, but with a coating to minimize scratching and hazing with use. A clear motherboard tray would be cool too... now, to find a clear DVD-ROM...
Kind of a reach here, but I had the same reboot loop triggered by two things:
1) a CPU pushed too far
2) turning off ACPI in the BIOS on a machine with an existing install of Win XP
The revert-to-default-settings work in the BIOS should have fixed any possiblity of the latter, and...
That motherboard has an option for setting legacy support for the USB keyboard and mouse if memory serves, plus a BIOS setting for the USB ports themselves - 1.1, 2.0 or both. Where are these set, and does mucking with them make any difference?
Cool thread, but not the one I was remembering. The one that sparked my interest was dealing with all the necessary evils and details of starting an in-home repair company (disclaimers, insurance, what to charge per hour and per visit, etc)- I'll keep looking and I appreciate the help so far...
There was a great thread a while back on this, which, of course, I failed to bookmark and now can't find. Can anyone point me to it?
Thanks
(Wasn't sure if this was in hardware or software, so feel free to kick this to the hardware thread if that's more appropriate)
Skype (www.skype.com) will allow up to five users simultaneously- not sure how many freinds you're online with. It did a better job for me in terms of clarity and interrupted sound streams (constantly talking, then stopping to wait for the other person to go sort of thing)
I use my old PIII 600/SuSE 9.0 box for the kids - they're into the flash-based web games and I don't have to worry about them borking the machine. I do periodically find that the 3-year-old has over twenty windows open and is happily opening more, but I can usually catch it before it goes critical
Good call - I installed it and initially it only killed my printer driver (Epson 825)
Over the last few days, games got chunkier and chunkier, then Nero freaked out, followed by some other random behavior, so I uninstalled it (at least that worked well) and everything's back to normal.
It...
Well, they're all free, and if you're interested in learning more about the OS, why not give a few a try? You'll be out a little time, but you'll learn something about each as you go, so why not?
Fedora has a new test out, SuSE is a network install and fairly straightforward, Mandrake...
My brother had the same (or a similar) problem - it was a small hair stuck close to the lens on the bottom of the mouse.
Other than that, same mouse (Mx500) and no problems for almost a year.
I have the same speakers and my volume knob on the sub had a short- this is a long shot, but try physically (and gently) pushing the knob up and down with some music playing and see if the bass cuts in and out. Also, do you have it next to a wall on the floor or some other location?
Forgive my brain cramp for not remembering the site, but there was a sound card shootout done with the release of the ZX and the Audigy 2's showed semi-substantial (5-15 fps) increases in games. There may be better cards for mastering CDs, S/N, etc, but ther Audigy seems to be a good deal...
I have a Suse box and WinXP box off of a router being fed by the cable modem, also on Comcast- no issues at all. Have you called Comcast to make sure that the cable modem is going to play nice? Or, is it your own modem? They may swap it out if you ask for a different model- mine's a Terayon.
If you're not getting any lights, that may indicate a bad cable or an improperly seated connection. Any chance the cable was stressed or damaged in the move? Same for the switch/router-
Do a search or call around for microwave ISPs. I was able to get 1 mb down/256 up for $50 a month while waiting for broadband providers to get the neighborhood updated.
Sprint may be a good initial point of contact, as they ran a few ISPs this way out here.
I just bought an 802.11b Netgear and did pretty much as you stated: added the 128-bit key to the router, copied said key to my wife's laptop and it connected immediately, full functionality. I didn't have to reboot the router or the laptop- XP should be able to do this on the fly.
Are you...
I have two 36 GB raptors set as my C: drive in a RAID 0 configuration. SATA controller is integrated on the motherboard, and I had to unplug the other two IDE drives to get XP to name the array "C:" on initial install.
My eventual goal is to get SuSE onto one of the other IDE drives and have...
if you can get to a command prompt that will recognize "fixmbr" you're golden.
However, I've had to put in the XP disk and then navigate to the repair screen to do this. Whether this means I'm stupid or you really can't w/o the CD I don't know.
The suggestion to get YUM or APT wins for ease of install. Also, do a search for Synaptic if you prefer a GUI for APT - makes getting the programs a lot nicer, and you get the dependency checking BEFORE you try to install the programs.

Unless you've got a dual processor laptop, you're not going to get much out of the update.
...there's one other difference that's escaping me at the moment. Anyone?
Intial messing resulted in some serious errors trying 200 mHz with the RAM- no combination of timing, voltage or swearing worked. RAM is back at 166.
Dropped the processor to 166x12 for some initial testing (shows as a 2700+) and increased my Futuremark score by 2 (yes, that's right, 2!) with...
I am currently running two mis-matched 512 mb sticks of 2700 (default agressive timings in an Asus A7N8X Deluxe) with an Athlon 2500 @ 3200, two Raptors in a RAID 0.
How much of a performance increase will I see by upgrading the RAM?
Anyone here done before-and-after benchmarking in a similar...
I'll second the Sennheisers. They have a 9' cable already, sound phenomenal and are open-air so you will be able to hear traffic.
As to the extension, get a $4 Radio Shack 1/8" to 1/8" run. Cheap is good.
Couple of concerns:
That amp doesn't have a low-pass filter, so you'll either need to buy or build a crossover or put coils on the output. The crossover is harder to design from scratch (but you can buy them too) but won't sap as much power as the coils will. You'll need to pay close...
