I've owned my Flsun Prusa i3 clone for a few months now, and know enough about 3d printing to start a scratch build. I've seen quite a few different designs out there but the corexy design seems like a solid system.
I've ordered a bunch of parts from China and will eventually salvage the...
Hi there. It's been a long time since I've done any modding, but this was a fun minor project so I thought I'd share it with you. I had an old HTPC itx motherboard and power supply I wasn't using anymore, having replaced it with a ShieldTV. I figured I should actually put it to some use. My...
I'm currently running a Phenom 2 x4 965 @ 3.8GHz on an Asus M4A87TD EVO motherboard with 16 gigs DDR3 2700-9-9-9-24, XFX HD 7870 video card, and BFG 550w power supply.
Am I going to be better off looking into a new motherboard and CPU or video card for current/upcoming games? I'm probably...
I'm currently using an Omninas KD20 for a NAS, but I'm annoyed with some of the mapping limitations (unable to disable iTunes, which I don't use, and services are either/or which I want both enabled).
I would like to change to a 4bay hotswap NAS or home server. I like the idea of Drobo...
Thought I'd share my new HTPC build after my older board died, decided to replace the case as well. With some modification, I kept the same power supply (case designed for a SFX, but I reused a TFX instead) and installed a "fanless" heatsink for the APU. I'll keep an eye on temps and see if I...
Looking for a new system for a HTPC, primarily for Netflix or media file playback with 1080p hdmi output.
My current rig has died. I've tried swapping out the ram, disconnecting all the drives and connecting a new power supply, but no post. Since it's an FM1 board, I don't feel like...
I'm thinking of grabbing one of the single-fan vga heatsinks and adapting it for itx htpc use. Might take a bit of work to get the adapter and tolerances working right, but it'd be a fun challenge. Anyone else tried doing this already?
Hi [H]ers.
I've been away from the modding and pc building for a while, since my Antec 2480 custom build htpc and gaming tower pc got stolen a couple years ago.
I'm building a blu-ray capable pc soon, whenever the hardware comes in... Maybe also for light gaming, music playback, netflix, etc...
Okay, here's the deal. I have a Asus P5E-VM HDMI motherboard, which is a good OCer and has been solid for gaming/folding etc but it's mATX and only one PCI-E 16x slot. I recently upgraded from a 8800GT to a GTX 275 (still in the process of being shipped from a step-up, but I digress). As I...
Update!!! It seems running multiple VM instances on a single core each just slows down the VM clock. My system completed 20% in 7 hours, which equates to 21 mins for each %, but FahSpy stated it only took 12 mins for each %, so it dramatically misrepresented PPD gain using more VM instances...
Anyone using Windows7 64bit as the OS for their gaming box? Any critical drivers still missing? (X-Fi, for example)
I'm considering making the switch soon, leaving Vista32bit on another HD.
Does Folding@Home work with W7-64? Improvements? Make anything worse?
Any other suggestions, or...
Just looking for some suggestions. Right now, I have a 74gig raptor, a pair of 320gig 7200.10 16meg cache seagates, and a 7200.11 32meg cache seagate drive in my personal system.
I have been using the raptor for OS and 2 320s in raid0 for game installs. I was hoping to take a 750gig out of...
I tell ya, every time I read about how good this Gigabyte mobo or that one is, and I take a look at a pic of it, it makes me throw up a little in my mouth. Did a colorblind guy choose the color scheme?
Since this seems to keep coming up in other threads, and often aren't really on topic, I thought I'd throw it out in it's own thread.
Issue: Athlon processors, like the low power 4850e/5050e, run at the old HT speed of 1GHz. The Phenom processors, run at the new HT speed of 1.8-2.0GHz...
I posted this in monitors, but no bites... And all the posts in there are about what monitor to buy. Anyone here have experience with HDMI troubleshooting?
I can't get my XBox360 to connect to my Samsung 2693HM for some reason. If I use a HDMI-HDMI cable, the monitor won't sync up, but if I...
I can't get my XBox360 to connect to my Samsung 2693HM for some reason. If I use a HDMI-HDMI cable, the monitor won't sync up, but if I use a DVI-HDMI cable, it does... PC-DVI to Monitor-DVI = good, PC-DVI to Monitor-HDMI = good, XBOX360-HDMI to Monitor-DVI = good, XBOX360-HDMI to Monitor-HDMI...
Ideally in the $80-100 range, if possible. Modular would be nice, but not necessary. I'm currently maxxing out my Antec Earthpower 380W that came with my NSK-2400 case. 5 HD, DVD, ATI X800, Athlon X2 3800+, pci Gigabit lan, pci dual analog tuner, pci-e X-Fi.
Getting random errors, HDs...
I'm looking for a decent socket 775 mobo that's microATX and has the following... gig lan, firewire, s/pdif, eSATA, and 6 (at least) SATA ports (including the eSATA if necessary).
The only board I've found so far is the Gigabyte GA-EG43M-S2H. Is that the only one that meets my...
WTH is going on? I checked my FahSpy today and noticed it was taking 90+ seconds to complete 1% of the same WU I was able to complete in 18 secs a couple days ago. Since then I installed 177.41 (with generic inf), the PhysX 8 driver, and the new 6.12 beta 8 FAH. I noticed the issue before I...
120mm fans are officially obselete. 2000mm fans are sure to replace them within the next few years. :D

I've had the Antek NSK2400 for some time now (as some of the longer term members are I'm sure aware, as I've posted other mods to it here in the past) but one of the things that bothered me was that there was only 2 designated bays for HDs. I was at my local NCIX (about 5 blocks from where I...
I was using a Scythe Slip Stream Kaze Jyuni 120MM Fan 1600RPM 88.1CFM 33DBA for my Ultima90 heatsink, and was getting max 57C loaded with folding@home. Replaced that fan with a NMB-MAT (Panaflo) 120MM Fan 1700RPM 68.9CFM 30DBA and now I'm getting 52C with folding@home. I think I'll grab a...
Anyone bought a 3 in 2, 4 in 3, or 5 in 3 - 5.25" sata hotswap bay recently in Canada? I'm looking for something that's reasonably priced, and actually in stock or short order time. Preferably with an 80mm fan at least, not multiple 40/50mm ones.
I posted in drives and storage but no replies.

I was looking at this case http://www.tacens.com/theca.htm and thought... if you just threw away the bottom half, and used the top half for HDs, it'd be a pretty sweet case... could put a 3 in 2 hotswap bay in the two exposed drive bays, add another couple HDs inside, and put a SATA port...
I just recently received my Typhoon GX LCD from Matrix Orbital (loooong wait, about 5 weeks from ordering, back ordered I guess).
So of course, I got out the dremel and drill and hacksaw and cut a hole in the front of the case, and then mounted the LCD on motherboard standoffs tapped into...
Here's my suggestion, use it as a fan shroud for a fan you actually like. ;)
Snip off the supports for the fan...
Drill out one side of the holes so you can get a screwdriver in to screw the shroud to the other fan and viola!
I purchased the Antec NSK2400 some time ago, and while plain looking for the most part, it suited my needs... until I upgraded my receiver to a Harman-Kardon AVR-245... And decided that it be an interesting project to mod the Antec case to match the receiver.
I bought some 1/8" clear acrylic...
After some research, I discovered there's a wealth of information and mis-information out there about the X-FI series and their compatibility with front audio connection ports.
There only seems to be one card atm that is directly compatible with front audio ports, the X-FI Xtreme Gamer, and...
The Opteron 146 is a single core, but overclocks decently. Many people have reached 2.8 or 3.0 GHz with aircooling.
I bought one and have it running at 2.8GHz, prime stable for 10-ish hours so far, no errors. :)
edit: Here's the direct link to the email special...
Courtesy of the Inquirer, Tyan has a "4 blades in a box" box... 2 sockets, 1HD, 2 gigabit lan per blade. And "only" 1400W between the 4 350W power supplies... guess the monitor has to be on a seperate circuit.

"Personal Super Computer" indeed.
Hey [H]ers. I've seen lots of posts asking about ducting, and lots of replys pointing 'em to where you can buy fan ducting. But I haven't seen a lot of inexpensive solutions... So I came up with my own. Off to the Home Depot to buy some corrugated plastic sheet (also known as signboard)...
Ultra has a new non-modular power supply out... details at http://www.ultraproducts.com/product_details.php?cPath=60&pPath=383&productID=383
Looks pretty decent as far as specs go... and has a whole heap-load of connectors this time.
Connectors Available

Hey all. I finally decided to clean up the 20 pin main cable for my X-Connect power supply. I took off the plastic cap months ago so I could route the cable more cleanly, but never got around to modding the cap.
First I drilled a pilot hole in the side, where I approximated the cable...
WTF is with people pointing out where you can buy a crappier and less personal item instead of doing the mod yourself? This just gets to me.
Seems like "Modding" means "buying stuff already made that way and putting it together" to quite a few people who frequent these forums.
IMO...

Apparently people stating the issues they've encountered with Starforce is enough to cause litigation threats. Lovely way to run a business.

So, here I was, overclocking my computer and frowning at all the noise it was making... and realizing that 50% of the noise (all of the high pitched noise!) was coming from the crappy little northbridge fan.
So, a quick inventory of my derelict heatsinks, and I focused on the retail cooler...
Anyone know what the max power or current rating is for fan headers? I've got a couple relatively quiet 120mm fans that are only 0.08A at 12V, or just under 1W each. I'm wondering if I use a splitter, if I can vary the speed of both fans from one header.
Alternately, what's the highest...
Since overclocking hangs the computer occasionally (especially when pushing it to the top, determining thresholds etc) I decided having the diagnostic leds in the front of the case was better than at the back. So out comes the drill...
Because the flap has the vent holes in it, during...
