My two cents:
I have found the color performance of S-IPS panels to be very impressive. I wasn't as impressed with PVA screens in this respect, though I'm sure some will disagree.
The latest buzz is that the Yonah (Core Duo) already has 64 bit capability.

Somewhat speculative, I know, but it is noteworthy. Maybe someone can test this theory.
I can't believe someone is advocating that someone's PARENT use internet explorer. Which rock have you been hiding under the last few years? Good grief.
Pay special attention to this dual-link DVI port business like these guys tell ya and which cards actually have two dual-link ports. Remember, this isn't about picture quality, it's about being able to display the picture at all.
Good luck with the setup, make sure to post pix
Confusion like this, plus seeing people discuss analog max resolutions when we're talking about widescreen DVI panels, etc, makes me wonder why there isn't a FAQ for [H] Displays! It would really help out a lot of people..
Well, this has happened before with bleeding-edge DVI setups (remember when the first 2405s started flooding the market and pushed the limits of some cables / cards?) where the DVI signal has trouble getting to the screen. I have serious doubts that it's the card, though, since ATi seems to have...
Yeah seriously, you had to be living under a rock not to know that you were going to be dealing with a fairly unoptimized setup, lots of Rosetta slowdowns and bumps, etc.
Jobs even admitted so at his keynote, which must be a real pain for him :D
Calm down people! Jeez!
First of all:
I overheard on Applenova that EFi for x86 computers includes a compatibility mode for old operating systems. You can probably find some details about this here: http://www.intel.com/technology/efi/
Secondly:
(also overheard...
Man, it would be nice if we didn't turn this thread into a bunch of nonsense about how some people don't want a resolution of 2560x1600 or that some silly TV is better/worse than this. If you don't like it, just don't participate in here. ... Just stick to the topic okay guys ...
Haha yeah because that worked wonderfully for canadians paying a 50-75% premium on just about everything else Dell has sold for the last 3 years vs. their american counterparts...
Good luck but I wouldn't hold my breath.. Dell can be nasty like that :(
If it's dual link it should suffice.. I mean it shouldn't be a mystery as to why they're pushing their latest and greatest wares over their older ones :)
Also, check in the 30" Apple Cinema Display on PC thread if you are worried about displaying 2560x1600 in DVI... I'm sure you'll be fine...
Just to add my two cents, avoid Viewsonic. CRTs being the tricky analog hardware that they are, you should ignore overly glittering reviews by people who are having a great experience with Viewsonic screens... It's not the same experience for everyone, and you don't wanna play roulette with...
I have yet to see a single piece of evidence anywhere that dell is producing a 2407 or 2007.. I've only see noise about the 3007.
Anyone have any concrete links to share?
I will be buying a canon 350d (the rebel xt) from someone this weekend and suddenly find myself in the market for a storage type I know nothing about, that being compact flash.
That said, can someone explain the differences between CF cards to me? I am looking at probably getting a 1 gig card...
The thing to keep in mind with these displays is that it's highly unlikely that Eizo makes its own panels (unless someone can present evidence to the contrary), and are probably using other vendor's panels (eg: Samsung, LG Phillips, etc).
So no matter what their marketing hype indicates...
If you have disposable income and are willing to return your screen... Here's the display to keep your eyes on (it's not out yet):

I think you mean the ACD 23" :)
I think the real question -- for people who care about color -- is whether this panel improves upon Dell's 2405 screen, and whether the viewing angles have been improved over that particular panel..
Perhaps it's the same panel. I wouldn't be at all...
Holy freaking crap.. This forum has turned everyone into a raving lunatic, seriously :)
If you can't see a problem with your own two human eyes then it's not there. Don't go looking for it and taking extended exposures with high end photographic equipment just to convince yourself that...
Yeah it was just one of those kinds of things that totally suprised me, I was pumped to check the screen out too. If you're used to , say , an S-IPS screen, it becomes extremely distracting. Still an amazing screen and all.. but for my usage pattern, it might not be for me :)
The first time I saw someone's 2405 in person I was also shocked by the PVA-esque off-angle washing.. And even more suprised that I didn't see a hardforums superfreakout panic extravaganza over it (like we did with backlighting and another monitor which will remain nameless.. ;) )
As a TV and gaming monitor the Apple ACD 30 is massive overkill and way overpriced. Also, it will lose out in a number of ways (viewing angle, latency, brightness) to screens that are actually meant to be TVs.
For what it's worth, nobody can tell you how well a monitor that hasn't been out for a year will perform as far as "long life".
This forum has plenty of stories about the 2405 in pretty much all other respects though.. It's not hard to find them. The response is mostly positive.
I like how in some of the other areas of this forum people are cracking off the IHS's off their CPUs and smashing apart every other conceivable thing you can think of , much of it very expensive stuff, yet over here in Displays anyone so much as mentions the mere thought of cracking open a...
I wouldn't be suprised if they are trying to streamline and unify their fabrication process.
Also, the mere fact that there are 64bit Semprons available makes it fairly believable too.
Try Kimwipes:

I've known these to be used in the lab with slides for viewing by microscope.. They won't scratch a thing.
I am of the thinking that the Apple system that you "really" want will always remain at 2000$ or more.. Some serious shakeup would have to happen at Apple to change that, but we said the same thing about the intel switch, so let's wait and see.
I think the biggest thing missing right now is a...
The 2405 is pretty impressive. However:
If you have any doubts, are willing to wait, and aren't totally 100% pumped to pick it up right now, then don't do it. Waiting for Dell's next model or other options will always leave you with more choices later, and of course better prices.
As far...
The Acer has a somewhat pleasant design, however on this forum it seems we hear a lot more positive comments about viewsonic in terms of picture quality and gaming performance. I say go for the viewsonic.
Wow, and just for a second there I thought I was on [H] forums instead of the buy-it-like-a-good-little-consumer-and-never-mod-it forums .. Oh wait..
;)
Power to ya man, we look forward to seeing snapshots of your 2001FP mod.
I need some help picking out components.
I'm hoping to build a 1U server based on a socket939 CPU instead of an Opteron, to keep cost down. Unfortunately, this seems to narrow a lot of my options. Here is the case I have been looking at...
Hey everyone,
I am going to be building a 1U server box and have decided to go with a socket 939 system rather than than Opteron box (trying to keep the budget decent). Here's the only cooler I have been able to find in this form factor that is available from my local supplier and is in...
