Hey all,
There seems to be this common myth that Windows can only allocate up to 2GB of physical memory to a given app. This could be true in some versions of Windows, but since only x64 will recognize 4GB, that's what I have been using.
What I basically want to know is... what's the...
Hey all,
I recently purchased an NEC MultiSync 1740CX 17" monitor, and was interested in using the digital input. The only problem is, the monitor only includes a VGA cable, not one for the digital. The back of my 7800GT are two DVI-I ports, while the monitor accepts DVI-D ports. Could...
I'm not sure if this is the first review or not, but it's the first I've seen.
Hexus
The FX-60 beats out the 955XE in every test, but none of them are really a significant lead. It's going to be great when we see both of those CPU's duke it out when games that actually support Dual Core...
Hey all,
I am building a new system consisting of an ASUS P5WD2 Premium and an Intel 820 Dual Core. There's also a 2GB kit of Corsair 6400UL modules, a 200GB WD HDD and an LG DVD burner.
When I boot up the PC with my Windows install, it displays "Setup is detecting hardware.." and then...
Hey all,
Tonight I was putting together an Intel machine, and it didn't exactly go as planned. Being an Intel noob, it took me a while to figure out how set things up, but it came together ok. The time came to boot it up.
The computer was plugged into my TV at the time because my friend...
Hey guys,
I'm looking to build a test bed, but Intel based. I am not Intel saavy in the least, so I'd like to get to know them better. Besides the CPU and mobo, the rig would include:
PCI-e BFG 6800GT OC
250GB Seagate S-ATA
Chaintech AV-710
Lite-On DVD+RW DL
Watercooling
DDR2 Memory...
Hey all,
Even though this card is still fast, I would love it if I could push the overclock further. The best overclock I can muster is 480/1.15. I see others hitting 500 and higher core, but can't understand why I can't get an inch past 480.
Whenever I try to push it further, it just...
Well, my Inspiron 5150 has blown yet another LCD.. that makes two in one year. I want to open up my laptop to take a can of air to the inside of it, since it's starting to get a little dusty.
I also want to see if the monitor cable is even fully plugged in, or I'd like to try replugging it...
Well not me, but a friend. He wants a speedy toughbook that is not ultra-expensive. He wants it to be able to run WinXP and Photoshop just fine.
So far, he was looking at one with a PIII 933MHz processor with 256MB of ram, and also another with a Pentium M 1.10GHz with 512MB (I believe) of...
For anyone who was interested in seeing how these modules performed, I just posted a review of them here. I believe it's the first review of them, but correct me if I'm wrong.
They are DDR438 with 2-3-2-6-1T timings, at 2.8v. The chips are Infineon rev B (BE-5), which seems like an odd...
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. September 29, 2005 AGEIA Technologies, Inc., the pioneer in hardware-accelerated physics for games, today announced that Futuremark has signed an agreement to license the AGEIA PhysX SDK for use in future products. The inclusion of AGEIA PhysX technology will add...
Hey all,
When I plug in a new Thumb Drive, I get a warning "Speed is reduced to not being a high-speed 2.0 USB port.. blah blah." Thing is, I have not had this problem before and can't seem to fix it.
My laptop uses it fine as a 2.0, but I have no idea why it won't work on my desktop...
Last night, I wanted to test an LED fan so I could figure out which color it was. Without shutting down the computer, I plugged it into an available molex connector. Well.. I figured out which color the LED was, but the entire computer shut down.
Now, I think I shorted the motherboard. I...
Playing BF2 is near impossible, because it's glitchy and sticky as hell. I will just be walking along and try to turn, and it will stick for a minute, then suddenly be walking in a different direction, as if I was sticking to the ground.
Even firing my weapon at an enemy is always...
I remember reading all about how the 7800GTX's do this, and the GT's do as well. I was just wondering if we ever found out WHY during 3D games the Core will jump around 41MHz.
Thanks!
For those who don't know, Blue Shift was an original HL expansion that didn't become too popular, although I remember enjoying it when it came out.
Either way, it's coming to Steam and it's going to be free, so that's always good. You can see more info about the actual expansion pack with...
Hey all,
I'm trying to enable HDR in Far Cry, but the result is always very buggy.
Here is a before and after picture.
Once HDR is enabled (I tried all 11 levels), a lot of textures disappear. Moving through that door, I could start to see through walls and seen other wierd affects...
I'm looking to pick one of these cards up, but don't know whether to try an eVGA this time, as I currently own a 6800GT OC that's about to be RMA'd due to high temps it get's.
Anyways, they both would have lifetime warranties, so which should I choose? Anybody happen to know if ANY bundle...
Hey all,
Ok, I have a wired router, which the cable modem is plugged into, as well as three computers. I bought a WiFi card for my desktop, hoping that, that could provide internet wirelessly to my laptop.
How exactly would I go about doing this? I do not have a Wireless Router, because...
Here's the scenario. I want to use internet on my laptop without begin strapped to my desktop. If I install a Wifi card in my desktop, could I connect to the desktop to use internet that way? I currently have a cable going to my nic card to do the same thing now.
I just want to know if I...
Hey all,
I'm looking for a program like MBM that will acurately track my CPU/Case temps. The reason I liked MBM, is because it kept the highs/lows, but I can't find another program that does the same.
Manually setting up the sensors in MBM ends up giving insane temps, which are...
I already showed this to a few people, but I thought I would share it here and see what people thought.

Once again, for those who care. I'm not that crazy about PC Mark to begin with, but I'll still try it out and likely buy it to use in reviews and junk.
Press Release
I didn't know what forum to throw this in, so I hope GH is ok.
Ok, this is for a friend. He's been having this problem, but I can't seem to figure it out.
He's trying to play a new game out, and although the graphics are nothing amazing, it still requires DX9. When he tries to play, it says,
"Could not initialize Direct 3D. Please ensure that...
Received some PC4000 Ballistix memory the other day, and after being quite impressed with the PC3200, I couldn't wait to see what overclocking could be done with this.
For those interested in initial results, check the pic here.
I was impressed with this.. but at this point my CPU was...
New 64 bit drivers, dated today are available here. It's interesting how these ones vary than the 77.62 32-Bit ones. These show a couple unnamed G70 entries. I'd try these out.. but it seems I corrupted my 64-Bit install..
NVIDIA_G70.DEV_0090.1 = "NVIDIA G70"
NVIDIA_G70.DEV_0091.1 =...

It seems as though it only supports 6*** and 7*** series. They say it's the same driver that 7800 card reviewers were sent.
Won't stop me from installing them though.
I've been trying to do a lot of benchmarks for an article, but have a hard time even getting through Far Cry benchmarks. The computer will just crash, and at first I thought it was a memory issue (possibly still is), but now I can pass Memtest for a while without errors.
I ran a quick bench...
Before I recently upgraded my memory, I don't recall having any problems like these. You can refer to my other thread here.
When I was using one stick of Samsung DDR400 3-3-3-8, everything was fine. Now I am using 2*512MB DDR400 2-3-3-8, which I bought from here . You'll notice that the...
Hey all,
This is what's happening. Once in a while, if I am trying to benchmark or something, like 3D Mark for instance, it will completely crash my computer. I had the problem with HL2 the other day as well. My systems in my sig. I'm using the 5/10 BIOS for my board and I am using the...
Hey all,
I just got this problem today, and can't figure out how to fix it. I am constantly editing graphs in Excel, such as this one here .
Anyways, I've been in and out of my Excel file all day, editing it because of an article I'm working on. I opened up the file to start working on it...
Sorry if this has been posted already, but I thought this was cool.
CMOS Reset
Notice that the 5 1/2" panel has a flap to lift up to reset your CMOS in case you have an overclock go bad. Saves leaving the side panel off your case.

Alright, was doing some overclocking today, because I got some new ram. During a reboot, I decided to install a RAID card. After a lot of headaches, I said eff it, and put things back the way they were.
Anyways, I somehow messed up Windows, (I know it was me, I was playing in boot.ini), so I...
