Uhh.. Sempron is Socket A. Infact, Semprons are basically weaker XP's. I don't understand your thinking here.
Ok, not all Semprons are Socket A, but I don't see why you wouldn't get an XP with a 512 cache instead of a Sempron with 256?
I just recently ripped a CD with it to make a slipstreamed ISO for WinXP and when I go to burn it, it says the drive failed to initialize and I might have a bad disc. Ok, no problem. I put in a different disc (same brand) and it still gives me the same error. So I try, yet again, another disc...
My suggestion would be to get a case like this; http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-125-468&depa=0 and then mount your radiator above the optical drives and that would also be where the 120mm fans go. But that's just what I would do. :)
If I remember right, anything after Week 39 of production for the bartons is when they are locked, but don't hold me to that as I think I am only thinking of the 2500+'s..
As far as buying from Xoxide goes, I think they're pretty reliable. I've bought all my (LED) fans from them when the price was right, all have worked wonderuflly and aren't loud at all, even two 120MM fans (standard).
/end crappy sales pitch :p
With that same chip, mine is set to shutoff at 65°C, but I've never seen it go pass 45°C with my setup. Unless your room is blistering hot and your case has no airflow, I wouldn't worry about your CPU going over 55°C..
I have the Barton 2500+ overclocked to 2.5GHz on air. With aVcore of 1.75, I never run Prime95 (make that, never have), but I'd say I am fairly stable as I can game for hours on end or just plain leave my pc idle for weeks on end and I've never recieved any errors. However, I am certain that...
Psh, as if you couldn't tell they were going to eventually do a revamp of their site when they first changed the way the viewitem & shopping cart looked/acted.
I wonder if that works with bartons though.. say two 2500+.
And what would be considered as "conductive" paint?
And I wonder what newer boards would work like that. That would be sweet. :D
So I was looking to get a new HDD and use it as a bootdisc, and decided upon a 10,000RPM goodness drive. :)
But my question is, which is better? The WD Raptor which is SATA or the Maxtor Quantum which is SCSI? Does one perform faster then the other, or is there even a difference? I'm new...
This is the AMD AthlonXP 1800+, I'm not sure if it's t-bred or palamino, I plan on popping it in my rig to see for sure. It's OEM (no heatsink, or fan) and it's slightly dirty from thermal goop from when it was used. The CPU itself is only about 5 months old.
I'm asking $32 shipped ($30...
And I want to go with a custom set-up after recently seeing my friend do it (and I was mucho impressed with the outcomde!). Now some questions I have are;
-What's the resevoir for (well, I know what it's for..), but over all would it be better then a fill tube coming out the back of my...
If you're going the AMD route, get either the Abit NF7-S or ASUS A7N8X Deluxe. Both boards I've used, and recommend highly. :)
Edit: But the Abit is cheaper (Newegg).
The system I was thinking about building was two of the low end Opterons(1.6GHz) with 1GB of RAM. And a to be decided later video card if & when I knew if they were able to game on.
Thanks for your response though. :)
Ok, so I am very new to SMP, infact, I'll admit that I know almost nothing.. so bear with me. :)
Anyway, my questions are;
1) Are dual Opterons Windows compatible, or even backwards 32-bit compatible?
2) Besides the obvious server useage for the Opterons, is it possible to game with...
