For a project I've got now, I need to wire up a few blue LEDs, approximately 10 to 15. However, these aren't going to be connected to a computer, so what would be the best way to power them? What sort of life expectancy could be had from a few AA batteries?
What I have now are 7 5mm 4k ~5k...
Normal fan screws, the ones that come with the fans, screw right into those holes. They screw in and tap the hole at the same time. Of course you don't have to use them. I've always found hex head screws to look nice on fans.
Edit: Well never mind this then >_>
Wow. I go away for a while and you finished it. Actually finished the Batman mod... I'm amazed. And those other paintjobs are just astounding. Great work, man.
You know those plate things that cover the PCI slots on your case? Use a couple of them to make your own HD brackets. I used them on my last case and it worked fine.
I saw this case the other night at CompUSA, and after seeing it online for so long, I was surprised at how flimsy the door was. The magnet that holds it shut is pretty weak, too.
No matter what, get some locking casters and handles. And get something that you don't mind getting scratched.
It's running linux, and as far as I know, CPUZ runs on windows. At least, it did four or five years ago (the last time I used it :/)
As far as I can tell, it's an AMD Athlon running at 1.4ghz. I think it's a barton, but I'm not 100% certain.
Your guess is as good as mine. When it comes to linux I'm one step above "bull in a china shop". I haven't actually tried it yet. You can PM if you want, but it's probably going to be a few weeks before I do anything.
Thanks to everyone else for the replies. I'm going to go ahead and lower...
I'm going to be moving my server computer from it's current housing over to a HTPC case, and unfortunately, cooling is an issue with all htpc cases. It's going to be an issue with this because it's going in my entertainment center, and will probably have a limited airflow.
The computer...
I'm not sure why you would want to put anything in front of it. I think it looks good like it is. Or maybe throw in a good number of cables coming from it to get a techy look to it.
I see your point, but it's going to be around $5 to buy the caps. The investment isn't that big, and the labor time will help me kill the boredom that's been plaguing me. If it's still fried, oh well.
I guess since I'm having trouble finding 1500uF, I should go with something higher, then...
Well I made the final tally for what I need:
2200uF @ 10v: 6 + 2 spares: 8
1500uF @ 6.3v: 3 + 2 spare: 5
1000uF @ 6.3v: 8 + 2 spare: 10
23 capacitors total.
Most aren't leaking, though, just bulging. I've been able to find capacitors that match these, for the most part. They're only...
Unfortunately, my brother's motherboard died the other day. I counted about ten capacitors with leaks. Well the problem itself has been resolved, and I've got a motherboard on my hands. Has anyone had any luck replacing capacitors? I have seen people move them with relatively little trouble...
SWEET FANCY MOSES! FRUIT FUCKER PRIME!

Edit: I had an idea. The..uh, appendage that the FF uses. What about having it fold out or slide out (sort of like the metal chute on the top of salt cans)? Then on the inside there could be a fan to act as a juicer...
Is that hinge going to be enough? It looks to be a 2" wide hinge. I don't know if I'd trust something like that to support the lid, speakers, etc. If it works, though, then it works.
I dunno. The big sphere should be blue, no doubt, but it only needs a little more blue, that way it doesn't overpower the red. Right now, the fade from the red to blue is really really nice and it gives it the look and feel of an eclipse.
Most briefcase mods look somewhat decent, but the best one I have ever seen was a computer modded into a pelican case. The entire thing was self contained and waterproof. It opened up and the screen, speakers, and keyboard were all built into the bottom.
Damn, I just realized something. This is a really stupid question, buuuut....
On radiators like the Black Ice and such that have a metal case around them, do they need a shroud for the fans, or is that 1/8" gap between the fans and fins sufficient?
Typical spray paints won't melt the plastic on your DVD drive.
Just go with vinyl dye. It changes the color of the plastic itself instead of coating it.
Other:
My case is built into the underside of the desk, and a console with the dvd-drive, fan controls, usb ports, etc sits on top. Sounds cool, but it's really in the way right now.
If I had warning, I'd rather toss them in a river or something. Imagine trying to dredge a large river for a 4"x6" hard drive. Besides, if they're coming knocking for you, then they already know you've done something illegal, possibly through packet monitoring or something.
However, if I...
For all the screws and miscellaneous small parts, I'd suggest one of these . I'm not exactly sure what they're called. Mine said "Parts cabinet" on the label. I know for a fact that Lowes has them, but they're not where you'd expect to find them. The one near me has them with the shelves and...
Holy crap they're 170 bucks a piece! Wow.
I mean, I know they're good products and all, but wow. That's a lot.
And for me, they wouldn't work that well as my desk is about 4" thick on the outside edge.
And to make up for the derail, here's a pic of my desk:
I like my monitor stand...
Man, I wish I had one of those 'arm' things for my monitors. I really like having a monitor stand so I can push my keyboard and such out of the way, but it's way to small.
Where'd you nab those, or were they made specifically for those monitors?
That looks like it would be plenty of room for pc. Here's the measurements I'm using right now to rough out a computer case:
ATX Motherboard: 12" x 9.6" (.6 is roughly 3/5". I round up to 3/4")
HDD: 4x6x1
CD/DVD-Rom: 6 1/4" x 8 1/2" x 1 1/2"
As for a powersupply, I'm not all that sure...
A friend of mine has one, and has had no problems with it.
I'll look into it, though. I would seriously hate it if a bad PSU fried everything. Thanks for the advice.
Well, I'm trying to get a parts list for a new computer. I'm going to build it later this summer, so price isn't a large issue to a point because I'm going to be able to earn money over the summer.
Right now I'm running an AMD Athlon XP at 2.1ghz, with 2gb of ram. I have two graphics cards...
You know what might look cool? If you only clear coated part of the tubing so that there would be certain spots of patina(tarnishing). It'd give it an industrial sort of feel to the case.
