That MS themselves created. Oh, and that they were told was a train wreck long before 8 went into production.
Remember those days? We had a lot of folks going on and on about how mobile's the future, and soon even desktops would all be touch screens. The start menu, we were told, was here...
Can you not figure out why?
New hardware == faster computer. You don't have to relearn the interface. You just pop the new card in and suddenly magic happens.
The interface shouldn't change significantly, and even then not without good reason*.
* - Well, "good reason" to the...
Look, I don't think you're focusing on the right metrics here. Win10 has greater market share than desktop linux after all.
And we all know how important that is.
That's...not just slightly terrifying.
Look, a properly setup voip server is an appliance. Like a toaster. You plug in a toaster, and it 'just works', right? Same deal here. Plug in a phone, and the magic just works.
Voip can be complex. You do not want a non-technical customer...
Putting aside the dramatic escalation of development costs which would effectively bar all but the largest players from participating in the market, and the resultant reduction in diversity of content, you would then have a huge disparity of quality in development, for essentially the same...
It's shocking just how many people can't answer these basic tech questions. An old manager of mine liked to ask, "What's the difference between a router, a switch and a hub". We used to laugh about the answers he got.
Although now a days that's taken on a whole new dimension of lunacy as...
I think I see your problem. For reference, I leave my computer on for weeks at a time without issue.
Still, here's your answer: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/310584
That's why I said my choice of wording was poor; I'm not talking about ROUTING traffic, but using a single simple switch ( no vlans ) to switch traffic among two separate networks.
No biggy; it was a side conversation anyway.
Simple switches; no vlan tags.
If I had to guess, I'd say the programming on the switch cut corners for speed and firmware size, so learned only the characteristics of the first network it saw and built it's arp->port table relative to that.
So instead of aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff =...
I'm sorry, poor choice of words on my part.
What I meant is that I plugged in 4 hosts, 2 different subnets on a single simple switch. Traffic would usually pass on the first subnet I plugged in, but not on the second; ie the two hosts on subnet #2 would never be able to communicate...
No, it'd be like this:
Host A creates the frame with the source mac as it's own, and the destination mac as host B. If it doesn't have HostB's mac address, it will first do an arp lookup to populate it's table, then create the frame and send it off on the wire. Each switch, when it receives...
You know, I thought this too, but I've tried a few simple switches and none of them would route traffic for more than one subnet. It seemed as though they bound to the first network they saw and dropped all other traffic.
You're misunderstanding.
A dumb switch won't have it's own MAC, typically. If you can't talk directly to the device, then it likely won't be hardware addressable. They'll take a frame in, lookup the mac address in it's table ( or do a broadcast lookup for the mac address ), then throw it...
traceroute doesn't really do much for you if we're talking about the same subnet. In that case, everything is "the next hop" away.
OP: More data would definitely be helpful here.
On the one hand, fuck MS for this kind of bullshit. It's *my* computer, fuck off.
On the other hand, this is kind of awesome. a) For home users who are the dumbasses and get infected and infect others, this will be great. b) For software vendors who's software breaks because of this, it...
I'd still like an answer to this, as I updated my 7 install to 10 and haven't noticed a speed boost.
Note; that's not a complaint. It's an OS, how much faster could windows even get after all this time? I will say that my only real complaint of 10 is how the apps are arranged in the All...
I don't disagree on any particular point. However, it's LIGHT YEARS better than 8. So you have to give it that much.
I've been running it for about a month now. Everything seems "ok". Apps still launch just fine, no crashes or driver issues. There is a small issue about clicking on apps...
Quite a few places I've worked, BIG places, haven't known this. They thought I was very confused when I brought it up and pushed it.
Oh..the money I could have made with the BSA over the years....
Yup. Traceroute will give you a great overview of what's actually happening.
I'd just ping my ISP's gateway, and if that's in an acceptable range ( ~10ms for me ) than there won't be much you can do to improve your latency.
Meh, it's an OS. As long as it gives me access to my programs and otherwise stays out of my way, I don't really care about it.
In that respect, it's no worse than 7 really.
Now ask me how much I like introducing it to new users and supporting it.
If I had to guess, I'd posit that they're looking to take advantage of government fiscal cycles, which generally reset in July. Even if they miss their own summer due date the announcement will give budgeting entities enough to pencil in windows 7...hahaha...xp refreshes to Windows 10...now...
Then why were you the first to bring up linux/OSS in this thread?
You may be right, some of the folks criticizing MS may have ulterior motives. However, I'd bet the majority of those complaining are folks that will be impacted by it, either personally or through working with end users ( such...
It really isn't a "red vs blue" thing. This is a reaction to MS making some seriously boneheaded decisions lately, thing, and folks are a mite touchy. Too touchy if you ask me, and I'd like to think we could be better than that here, but alas...
Regardless, none of this has to do with open...
I'd say you're looking at a difference in scale here.
These are passable icons. What's the purpose of an icon? To give you a graphical representation of the function it's representing ( open a program, open a file, ect.. ). In that, these icons fulfill their job function. Could they be...
