For my daughter, using spare parts I had. It was originally built using a really old biostar x370gtn, 3700x, 16gb of Corsair lpx3000 and noctua l9i from her old system. I added an rtx 3090 from when I upgraded to a 4090. I purchased the phanteks evolve shift XT and 850w psu and crammed it all...
Upgraded my daughter's computer with leftovers from my recent upgrades - went from a very small (sub 5L) sff with biostar x370gtn, 3700X, corsair lpx 3000 cl15 ram, and gtx1650 with a short pcie riser cable, no issues with the system, running reliably for almost 3 years. I put the board and...
As there's not a thread about this (just the VR-3), I figured I'd start one given I just got mine on Friday. I had preordered the day they opened, got the notice it would be shipping within 2 weeks on the previous Friday, notice it would ship within 5 days on Tuesday and card charged, and then...
Not sure what's going on, only thing I've found online is possibly due to monitor/multiple monitors, but my 3090FE is drawing 105W at idle. It should be in the 30W range. I have it plugged into a Denon AVR which goes out to my projector and a Samsung Odyssey+ plugged into it. Unplugging the...
Moved my PC from a silverstone gd09b, which just barely fit (as in I had to bend it to get the 3090 in) to the core P1, which is technically an mitx case. There were 2 things that let it work - 1, that my h100i platinum fit in the rad recess and that the fans can be mounted inside the chassis...
Picked up a 5950x Friday and have been experimenting with PBO and CO, running the latest beta bios from asus. Out of the box it was a bit disappointing, getting around 660 single and 11200 multi in cpu-z (which is what I'll reference). It was only hitting around 4.15ghz all core, which seemed...
I wanted to do an x570 with 5700X cpu and 5700X gpu and eat a burger with some Heinz 57, but no, you had to screw it up! Looks like I'll have to console myself with 5950X and not upgrade again until am6.
I bought the G14 (4900HS/RTX2060) to replace two laptops; a Dell Inspiron 7375, which is a 13" 2n1 with ryzen 7 2700u (4c/8t w/vega10), and an Acer Predator Helios 500, which is a monster DTR with desktop Ryzen 7 2700 (8c/16t) and highly binned 'mobile' vega56 in a not so svelte 8lbs 17"...
https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-threadripper-3990x
64 cores, 128 threads, $3990. 2.9ghz base, 4.3ghz max boost. Who's getting one and what are you going to use it for?
Going to build a Threadripper, so will sell all of these with original packaging as a combination for $400. Willing to separate and keep the 2700X if you want a system ready to go for Ryzen 3000. C6H is missing the io plate (was an amazon warehouse deal). Combo runs on PE level 3, yielding...

2160x2160 with RGB stripe display should all but eliminate SDE while giving a clarity boost over the Odyssey+ (which has also all but elimintated it, albeit with a filter on a 1600x1440 screen).
I might grab one...
Finally, somebody has figured out how to set the power limits on raven ridge - I've tested on my Dell 7375 with 2700u and can now run it at 30W tdp without it throttling - though due to the complicated dsdt on this laptop it periodically resets itself to 15W, if I set up a task to run the util...
So I picked up an Odyssey+ to go along with my Rift and HP WMR headset and have played around with it for about a week.
tldr: Amazing display and serviceable controllers with easier setup.
The main point of comparison is to the Rift as the HP headset was a cheap backup that I let my kids play...
So, despite the Ryzen 1xxx series Amazon pre-order debacle where they didn't ship chips unitl 3 days (and sometimes longer) until after the release date, and some boards didn't ship for weeks, I went ahead and pre-ordered a 2700x figuring at least I'd get the chip in a fairly timely manner...
Acer Swift 3, 15.6" Full HD, AMD Ryzen 7 2700U, 8GB DDR4, 512GB SSD, Windows 10, SF315-41-R6J9 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078B5WZZ5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_jBNAAbX1D4A5B
Looks like Feb 9th, anybody planning to grab one? Not sure it's worth $200 more than a 2500u, though it also has a few other upgrades.
Not the first we've seen, but this is a very good indication that more threads are where games are heading - lower clocked R7 equivalent to 15% higher clocked i7 6700k in Far Cry 5:
The 4K-Wowzers (2160p, 60 fps, high/ultra settings):
OS: Windows 10 (64-bit version only)
CPU: Intel Core...
Selling my 1 year old GTX 1060 (bought it Oct 18th last year). Product link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IPVSGEC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Great card, but I just bought a 1080 so time to sell this one. Comes with retail packaging and everything that came with it...
Just a PSA.

If you have a larger play area, this would allow a 3 camera Rift setup for $409, which is a great deal (imo). That or a couple of games to go with the free ones it comes with if you have a smaller area (~12'x12').
I think this would be a good reference as I'm reading stuff all over the map, so post your config and ram speed so we can see what the reality is.
After some experiments, the best I can get out of my corsair vengeance lpx 16gb (2x8gb) 3000mhz cas15 1.35v kit is:
Ryzen 1700
Asus b350m-a
Bios...
My cpu fan is driving me nuts as it's loud under heavy load while the rest of the system is quiet (and it is also my htpc), so I want to upgrade it but keep my options open to reuse come upgrade time, which will most likely be this winter/spring and include mobo/cpu/ram. If Ryzen delivers -...
I just got a GTX 480 and would like to try it out in my system, but Nvidia recommends a 600W PSU. I have a 550W Antec PSU that has 3 12V rails and looks like it can put out a max of 37A on the 12V rail. The rest of the system is in the sig. I'll obviously pull the 8800GT out as I don't have...
Putting together a computer for my mom using my old s939 x2 3800 and a Tyan Tomcat K8E s2865 (onboard ati rage xl graphics) with latest bios, 4gb of ddr, 80gb IDE HDD. Trying to install vista x64 and it boots and gets to the loading windows screen with the green bar and just gets stuck there...
So my trusty bioster ideq 330p finally bit it after 4 years - seems like the power supply which is basically not replaceable, but I was honestly pushing it for everything it was worth (x800xt followed by an 8800gt which were both pushing the power envelope) and had been contemplating a new build...
Just an FYI, picked up the best buy deal BFG 8800GT OC and it works fine in the ideq in sig. Probably the last upgrade for the system unless I find a smoking deal on 2gb of DDR ram and/or a 4800+ x2 939 processor. The 3800+ in it runs at 2.4ghz pretty easily with no heat problems, so I may not...
Can any of you with 8800GT's post the model and RAM manufacturer? I'm looking for cards with Qimonda RAM, I know the one Asus 1gb card has it but I haven't been able to find it anywhere and I don't think I need a gb of ram anyway.
My current vid card is getting a bit long in the tooth and I need something a little more powerful for my sff to push my projector for newer games. I just started looking at the latest cards and my choice was coming down to a 7900GT or 8600GTS as both were in a similar price range and similar...
XP on the mac opens up some interesting options...You can get a very powerful mac for around $3k, 2.16ghz duo, 2gb of ram, mobility x1600 256mb, 120gb hard drive in a 1" thin laptop with a very nice screen. I'd really like to see some xp game benches on one as this could be my next computer...
Need to get rid of my comp, going to stick with the laptop for now, realised it's just an excess. specs are:
Athlon64 3000+ with zalman cnps7000-alcu
Gigabyte k8vt800
512mb patriot pc3500 2-2-2-6 ram
Radeon 9500 that I guarantee to softmod to 9700 with all cables
SB audigy x-gamer
80gb...
I bought the 2500+ last week, it o/c's to 190fsb for 2.1ghz on the MSI board before the agp/pci clocks get too high and the vid card starts going flaky. Full load temps are 100F with fan at 7k rpm and 107F at 4800 rpm. Heatsink is a Vantek 6040H copper cooler with 7k fan (I have a rheostat to...
I picked up a Barton 2500 for my aging system (MSI kt3 ultra) and was wondering how high any of you have gotten them to o/c. My plan was to get some fast ram that I can use later with an athlon64 system when socket 939 comes out and allow me to o/c the hell out of this chip in the interim. My...
