You say that but do not offer an alternative...
Backing up to hard drive it is one of the only cost effective ways to back up a modern large HD. I trust a hard drive much more than optical media.
You must have multiple copies of the backup on different physical hard drives to have this be...
My buddy just put together his first PC and is, of course, all proud of it. He isn't a gamer, but he has a nice video card he wants to demo for people. What software can he run to show off the system? I sent him that DX10 waterfalls demo, but it looks pretty dated already.
He is a chem grad...
If you are going to be using both OSes heavily, simultaneously, you would want to use separate drives for each. But if you will have times where you are only using 1 OS, you would get all the benefits of the RAID 0.
Another consideration is that under RAID-0, if one drive fails you lose...
Just a little update, I got my two Sandisk Extreme IV 2GB cards from the Hong Kong dude and surprise surprise, they are fakes. It took so long I had assumed I wouldn't receive anything. They are quite well done fakes, they come in full retail packaging, with CD-ROM, plastic case, a neoprene...
Wow, I didn't realize athlon XP was that old. I think you should wait, it is only another 3-4 weeks. The speed difference between AMD and Intel is hard to ignore when you take overclocking into account.
Wow, 7 years :) Care to share the old PC specs? Anyhoo, no matter what you pick booting up the new one is going to be like taking off in a rocket to the moon.
Video card - go with the 8800, I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed in the 8600.
CPU & mobo - 6320 if at all possible...
There seems to be some kind of keep-the-warranty, be-careful-you-might-hurt-it trend here at [H] this last year or so. I wish I knew how to reverse it :confused:
Are you trying to recover the data or get the machine operational? If you just need to get the data, you should be able to boot off a linux livecd and mount the disks.
This is not true. I have softmodded a 6800 Ultra PCIe and it works great. The difference between the AGP and PCIe softmods is that the AGP-PCIe bridge chip will override the name that is in the BIOS, so it will always show GeForce in windows instead of Quadro. But benchmarks show that the mod...
Yes, you can, if you use a hardware raid card that is supported in windows and linux. But, why do this if you are using RAID-0? For RAID-1 I would understand, but you will end up paying ~$200 for the controller card and get a small speed benefit. Spend the $200 on two more hard drives and run...
The SMP client also allows computation of some new kinds of problems that the older clients cannot do. I don't know exactly what the differences are, but one of the reasons given by Pande for the big bonus is that they have some new projects that can only be worked on by the SMP client.
I understand that I would be buying pre-802.11n hardware and am OK with that. I cannot run cat5 because all the other equipment is on the opposite side of the apartment and I will not run a cable down the hallway and through my living room.
Can you check the ethernet error counters on the firewall? Failing that, on a device connected to the firewall? If there are a lot of errors, this points to it being a problem with the eth iface.
I don't know what is going on, but I doubt it was the SMP client's fault. That said, I wouldn't rule it out. The first thing that came to my mind was a failing HDD. I'm sorry I don't have much more to contribute, this is a difficult situation. After this kind of disaster, I would reinstall...
I am looking to replace my current 802.11a/b/g setup with 802.11n equipment. My wireless network is fairly simple:
802.11a/b/g router
mac mini with 802.11g
802.11a ethernet bridge supporting my mythtv box
occasional laptops (usually 802.11g, but I would like to continue to support 802.11b)...
First, make some defines at the top, like:
#define MAX_ENTRIES 10
#define STR_LEN 256
Your string declarations should be something like:
char name_a[MAX_ENTRIES][STR_LEN];
You should decide if you are using a single character or a string to store the gender. First you use a "%s" scanf...
With a driver. The BIOS never mounts a filesystem, ever. Except for booting off a USB device (which still does not mount a filesystem), the BIOS does not need to be aware of USB for it to be used by an OS. In the case of booting from a USB device, the BIOS is still just responsible for starting...
In case you want to make some rust: http://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?t=32161
I've done the nail as anode method using a 9VDC "wall wart" and it worked nicely. Very easy to set up.
That opens the file for editing. To open it read-only you can use commands like:
"tail -n20 FAHlog.txt" will show only the last 20 lines of the log
"tail -f FAHlog.txt" will open the log and continue to show new lines as they are added
"less FAHlog.txt" will open the file for viewing in a pager
If there was not a point system, I think I would lose interest pretty quickly. Without some kind of measurement, it is hard to feel like anything is accomplished. I agree that the point bonuses are unfair, I feel they should just stick with a benchmark system based point scheme with no bonuses.
Allen-Bradley PLC software comes with a license floppy that it modifies when programs are installed to limit the number of installations. I write protect those immediately, and make bit-exact copies. Then I use the "new" license floppies to install and can refresh them as needed. Doesn't get rid...
