I bought the Diamond 4870 with a i7 920 (no overclocking though) and it's been great. I know UT3 runs fast on all systems but with all the effects on full and with AA and AF cranked on a 24" LCD at 1920x1200 it's it is alot of fun.
Do you guys think that my system will run Fear 2 ok...
Why are GPU core's clocked so much slower than CPU cores? I don't think GPU's have cracked the Gigahertz mark yet (have they?) and CPU's are well over 2 Ghz. Do Intel and AMD just have better technology? If that's true the video card companies should try and liscense it.
Yeah, especially if your plan is to buy 1 card now and then another in a year when they're dirt cheap. Up here in Canada none of the big stores carry 7800GT's anymore so if I had waited too long to set up SLI I'd be out of luck.
I've got the Logitech USB Desktop Microphone and it works fine. I surf the net with Dragon Naturally Speaking and it picks up my voice great. Dictating to a document might not be as good though, I don't know.
For watching a DVD hook up your S-Video cable then select "Theatre Mode" in the "Overlay" tab in your ATI control panel. That way your pc will properly send the video signal to your T.V.
For sound I hook up my T.V. to my motherboards onboard sound (I use a creative soundcard for my regular...
I've got a second evga 7800gt coming in the mail for SLI and I just want to confirm that I've got the install procedure down pat. Here's my understanding of what I need to do...
uninstall NVTweak
uninstall nvidia drivers
reboot into safe mode
run drivercleaner
shut down
add second card...
I've got the EVGA 7800gt that came with the free motherboard. So far the card has been amazing though the mobo is a bit flaky (you get what you pay for I guess).
I've got my computer hooked up to my Onkyo minisystem via a minjack to rca converter. The sound is good. I've got my computer speakers hooked up to my soundcard in 4.1 and use the onboard sound for 2.1 to the Onkyo. All I have to do is switch it over in the control panel when I want to use...
You should experience a huge improvement. I just went from a Pentium 4 2.6ghz to a Athlon 4400+ and it's like night and day. With my new Geforce 7800GT I went from running BF2 and Doom 3 at 1024x786 at low settings (with my old Radeon 9800np) to 1600x1200 at high settings so with your 4200+...
On my new EVGA nForce 4 motherboard my back case fan won't reach the motherboard header. A guy at the local computer shop sold me a molex to 3 pin power cable so my rear fan is directly connected to a power supply cable. Is there any problem with having it set up this way?
Well, I could use a splitter from the X-Fi but doesn't that lower the signal level?
I just tested my T.V. and when I have the x-fi enabled in the control panel no sound comes out of the T.V. so it must not be processing anything with the onboard sound.
I've been using my x-fi for games and the onboard sound for sending audio to my T.V. when I'm watching DVD's from my computer. My question is will my system be slowed down by the onboard sound when it's enabled (in bios) even when in the control panel the X-Fi is selected for output?
I enable my onboard motherboard audio for my T.V. I game with my x-fi and then just change over to the onboard via the control panel when I watch a DVD from my pc to my tv.
Sounds like you might have a ground loop problem. Are your T.V. and your computer hooked up to separate power outlets? You might need something like this.
I've got one of these hooked up and it works 90% of the time (I still get minor interference but it goes away after a couple of...
In my last build my soundcard came with analog and digital wires to connect it to my cdrom. My X-Fi Platinum box did not come with these wires but the card itself retains the ports for them. Are these still necessary?
Two years ago I returned an NEC crt monitor to Dell Canada that had a small flaw in the glass. They replaced it with another new one and didn't charge me anything (not shipping either) or give me any hassle. I don't know if they've changed their policy since then though. Just give them a call...
First decide what motherboard you're interested in, download the manual from the manufacturers site (eg. Asus.com) and read through the installation instructions. Just that will cover alot of ground.
Here's a build guide that I bookmarked for myself a while back but I haven't really checked...
I've had the fe2111sb for over a year now and so far no problems. Games look good with the added real estate over my old 19" (crt), the superbright feature is convenient for games and the flat screen is good. You don't notice the aperture grille wires after a bit either.
Check out the selection here.
They are a Canadian site which helps with shipping (and returns if there's a problem) and are pretty much inline with the lowest prices in Canada. For $350 Canadian I think you'll be looking at something like a 6600gt which isn't a bad midrange card (performs...
I've been using a Func for a year now and it's hardly worn. And when this side does wear down I can just flip it for another 2 years use. I'd prefer it was a bit bigger though.
ATI is also saying that their cards will start utalising system ram since pci express is faster. Kinda funny since sharing system ram to me was always a sign of a crap system with integrated video.
The fastest 400fsb P4 the P4T-e supports is 2.6ghz. You can pick an oem one up at TigerDirect.com or Newegg might have it. If you buy at TigerDirect don't get the cheap Speeze heatsink to go with it as it didn't fit on my p4t-e and wasn't properly contacting the cpu leading to overheating. I...
You're current rig is still pretty fast so I'd wait. I wouldn't spread my upgrade over 6 months, I'd get it all now or all in 6 months as hardware moves so fast it can change alot over that time.
There's always the Dell XPS. Since you're not building you probably won't be messing with the inards much so if there's any proprietary Dell components it might not be a problem for the future. The XPS isn't cheap but compared to say Voodoo or Falcoln it isn't too bad.
