So if you have ever had a need for a commercial grade router with all the bells and whistles you may have came across pfsense. Due to it's changing in licensing the community split off a continuation of the projects original goal but maintained it's original open source license. Needless to say...
If you are hard up for resources you can setup a fresh install of your preffered distro without X so that those resources can be otherwise allocated and just ensure you have an ssh server for LAN access for setting the machine backup. If not I would at least check init.d scripts for any...
If the destination drive is at least the size of the original drive you can easily use CloneZilla which is live bootable media. It is quick and efficient but with limited function, it's built for doing a few things but it does them well.
The other more flashy option is http://redobackup.org/...
As a primer there is a huge list of how-to articles which over time has become an excellent resource, by the Ubuntu community if one was to want a very comprehensive document reference. http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Karmic
As far as codecs go, I'm not sure why so many people have kept...
Thanks, glad to help a fellow up and coming Linux user.
JB, personally I use FreeBSD on all of my servers, including the one sitting right next to me handling all of my in house network needs :D . FreeBSD is an excellent flavour of BSD, it has also has the largest community behind it via...

Very simple nicely equipped FULL Tower case for $59.99
I checked the shipping for KY it was $29, so might be in your range, or just a few bucks over depending on shipping.

I've always used full tower cases, and I used to get these great deals at...
Well I would be more than happy to help anyone out with any Linux questions. I run a really nice website [not going to link to it atm], but I've been using Linux exclusively on the desktop over ten years, and Ubuntu just for the last few, so I should most likely be able to offer some help with...
Ok, this year I'm getting the intel bundle and from what I've read it'll be the 1066Mhz fsb, Core 2 Quad. I'm going to get a different board, so overall I'm just looking at the question is should I dish out the cash for the 1066Mhz memory and run 1:1 or just get the corsair xms 800Mhz memory and...
Any more news on the Fatal1ty board? I'm very interested in purchasing one. Is everything still holding up fine? Anyone end up running into heat issues on the Northbridge? Any follow up information would be greatly apprecaited.
I have a 42U rack [over 6ft] in my computer room here next to me. There are actually many differences in rackmount machines. Design, construction, stability, and especially configuration. Most REAL rackmount machines you'll find [1U-2U] have a ton of integrated stuff and lots of BIOS options...
Hell you can get a nice UV reactive plug kit but I prefer getting all 90 degree connectors as mentioned above. It's worth it just to cut all of them off inside the psu case and then have all custom connectors; plus you can sleeve them however you like while you're at it.
Frostwire is good but GiFT is best. GiFT connects to Gnutella, [limewire and others], openft, kazaa network, and several other plugins are available. Use the front end called Apollon for it. All of this [Gift related, not Frostwire] is in Ubuntu/Debian package repositories. Other than that use...
Check out Automatix, it's a package for Ubunty Breezy. It gives you all the great apps you could want and quite a few that don't come in the package repositories like mplayer, win32 codecs, libdvdcss, and a ton of others. Here's a link:

I actually barely broke 7100 with this system....It's all stock with a clean install of wind XP SP2, I've installed the updated 77 series drivers from the eVGA site, anything obvious I can do to raise this score?
I actually just got some of these sticks in, I got the dual channel kit , 2 X 1Gb totalling 2Gb for my system. I have epox 9NPAJ, system in specs:,....I just got this system and should have everything up and ready to test by tommarrow night. I'm excited to see my score:
Note: mobo said dual...
Yeah, sometimes I get the OS itch...I get the urge to run like 5 distro's of linux and run both FreeBSD and Desktop instead of deciding on one....My spare box's have some great hd's and have somehow stood up to this abuse for over 3 years now :D
One spiffy thing about it all is you can do a portupgrade and get all fresh code, the latest submitted for the day if you'd like, the downside to this is one or several programs src may be quirky or out of whack, although the next day when fix is likely submitted you can portupgrade just that...
Haha, I can definately agree that it sucks when you realize some of the hardware you busted out cash for is hardly known on earth and has next to no support in windows let alone any other OS...It sucks, I feel your pain on my laptop, lots of crazy little inegrated things like pinhole cams, 6...
My favorite part of the discussion is when someone states that "the computer did it" and then suddenly decide it's either not good enough or too hard and they can't do it. A computer is a machine, it merely does what you tell it to, note that sometime if a program isn't developed correctly it...
I think drivers is probably the one HUGE thing that linux saves you on. That alone can be an hour or so once the initial install is complete. If you use a robust Linux OS with some great apps built in for auto detection then you will more than likely have 1 or less things to configure because...
The link posted for the 7800GT was an albatron, is this a quality manufacturing company or is there someone else know for great quality that I could pitch in an extra few bucks to ensure the job is done right? Or do you think the Albatron is great?
***Edit***
***I just noticed there aren't any 512mb versions of this card on newegg....***
How much benift in games is there with 512mb Video instead of 250mb? I know that in Doom 3 certain parts of the map will still be compressed with 256mb but none will be with 512mb, I don't know much...
After everything including a new Full tower case and a great quality 450w PSU, and a KINGWIN KF-82 Serial ATA Mobile Racks With Dual Fans for pulling out the drive quickly, it's about 1300 after I add this video card. Great system and that ram had awesome timings to compliment my processor along...
OK I"m about 95% finished with my new machine. I've gotten most everything picked out and ordered, specs are as listed:
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice 1GHz FSB Socket 939
EPoX EP-9NPAJ Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4
Patriot 2GB (2 x 1GB)
Maxtor 300GB SATA
...The last thing I"m coming to is the...
I like many of you; I have tried a ton of linux distro's from day 1 of "Newly Released" redhat 7 to running "Hackin9" I've as well had my share of fun with them. But one day while @ a local LUG [Linux User Group] Meeting I discovered FreeBSD. One of the graciously knowledged users was playing...
yeah, I am trying to get away from SATA, I've only have bad luck with it so far and EIDE has been around alot longer and has been more thoroughly tested so I am going to stick with that in a Raid 0 config via 2 x 80Gb W.D. S.e. Drives w 8mb buffer.
Well, here's my story, I have the following machine which I use for gaming and severe multitasking.
Currently:
AMD Athlon XP 2800+
SLK 900U W/ 92mm Quad LED Fan
DFI lanparty KT400A
1256mb Geil Ultra DDR400
SATA-80gb [Onboard]
Radeon 9600 Pro [256 mb]
500W PSU
All in a Full Tower...
