Can someone explain to me how SMP works at the bus level?

So, my uncle posed an interesting question to me today, which had me completely puzzled. I had never thought of how multi-processor systems work at the electrical level - how they get data from the bus and put it back onto the bus. Basically, how does each core know when to pick up data from...

WTB (or PIF): Black floppy ribbon cable (or ATA-66 cable)

I'm in need of a black floppy cable (to split into 10-pin segments for things like internal USB, serial, etc) and I couldn't find any lying around. Does anyone have one? I think Asus and Abit package them with motherboards. (Please note that I am not looking for a rounded cable. Just a nice...

    WTB: 6800 ultra AGP, K7N2 Delta2 Platinum

I'm looking for an MSI K7N2 Delta2 Platinum (the black one) and an AGP 6800 Ultra. A corsair 520 or 620 PSU would be nice too, if anyone has a good deal on one. Willing to pay $50 for the motherboard, and entertaining offers around $75 for the 6800. PM me with what you've got :) Heat...

Mounting a DDC on it's side

I think I saw a thread around here about this awhile ago, but a search turned up nothing, so I'll just ask. Is it safe to mount a DDC (or DDC+) sideways? The bearing design seems like it might have a problem with that, but I wasn't sure.

    VPN over unsecured wi-fi?

So, the wireless network I have at my house is completely unsecured, so that when people come over they don't have to worry about wep keys, etc. This isn't a problem, because all the computers in my house are on a seperate 100 base network, so I don't have problems with wardrivers getting my...

    Good cheap surround sound receiver

Okay, here's the deal. My dad just bought a projector for our basement, and we're looking into upgrading the sound system next. Right now it's a Sansui 9090, which is a flippin amazing receiver, but it's only 2 channel, and we want to go 5.1. I know there's a pretty good selection of ~$200...

Linux tuners: what are my options?

I'm not a huge fan of sacrificing image quality, so I don't necessarily want to go with the Hauppaugge cards, but if they're my only option I guess I could do that. Also, is there any software for windows that comes close to doing what MythTV can do? I really like the ability to write...

Can a dying video card cause reboots?

The reason I'm asking is because my 6800U has recently been saying that it's not receiving enough power. Also, every once in awhile I'll get up in the morning and my computer will have rebooted. I'm would test it on another PSU, but my only other one is loaned to a friend.

    DangerDen 8800 Block

It's out, but out of stock ATM. Looks like it's not much more than previous full coverage blocks - props to DD for that. Link: http://www.dangerdenstore.com/product.php?productid=257&cat=89&page=1 I have to wonder if it fits the GTS cards?

BFG 6800U OC - Not enough power?

My 6800 Ultra just started giving me this error yesterday. When I boot up windows, a little nVidia box pops up saying the card is not receiving enough power and the speed has been reduced. Thing is, it's deoverclocking it from 472 Mhz ( my OC that has been working for a couple months now) back...

    WTB: Dead LGA775 CPU

I want one for a keychain :D I just built a Pentium D machine for my mom and realized that the 775 processors would make great keychains (a) cause they're small and (b) cause they have no pins. So, does anyone have a dead one they could send me for maybe $5 + shipping (you can ship however's...

    DangerDen Maze5

Looks like DD just released a new GPU block - the Maze5. According to them, it performs almost as well as the TDX (they tested it on a Pressler :o) but is much less flow restrictice, which would make me interested in a CPU version of it, but it doesn't look like that'll happen. Linkage...

Where to get a new side panel for my ATC-110?

I've kinda wanted a windowed side panel for my ATC-110 for some time, but I couldn't find one. Anyone have any ideas on where to get one? I wouldn't mind getting a normal panel and having it watercut, so that's definitely an option.

    WTB: ATC-110 side panel

Windowed or non-windowed (I'll get it water cut). Before you tell me to mod my own, it's an ATC-110. I'm not going anywhere NEAR it with a jigsaw :p PM me with offers, and please bump if you look :)

Good OCs for a 6800 Ultra

I got a BFG 6800 Ultra OC and slapped a DangerDen NV-68 on it (in a loop with my CPU and northbridge). So far, the highest I've got it is 472 MHz GPU and 1.25 GHz memory. So what are the other 6800 GT / Ultra owners getting?

    WTB: NV-68

I need a DangerDen NV-68 cooler for my new 6800 Ultra. Target price is $60, but don't let that from sending me an offer. Best offer gets bought, unless I change my mind and just use my Maze4 (the NV-68 will make tubing routes easier though, so I think I'm gonna buy one). PM me, and please...

    Best ramsinks

    Resizing a partition's formatting

Kinda confusing thread title, eh? I just upgraded from an 80gb PATA to a 160gb WD SATA hard drive. Instead of reinstalling windows and all that annoying jazz, I just used a Linux bootable CD and DD to copy the files over (after creating a partition on the new hard drive). The problem is...

Preventing screen burn-in without a screen saver

I posted this over in general software, but I figured there's probably people here who would know more on this subject. Preventing screen burn-in without a screen saver

Okay, so I need an application to do this for work. Anyway, the obvious solution is to do what alot of plasma displays already do: orbit...
