Prevent torrent traffic if VPN drops?

I love threads like this, for this exact reason. 'My traffic goes through an anonymous paid for VPN service, so my privacy is protected...' - This isn't true, in fact it is quite the opposite, you are pushing all your data through a single endpoint, manned by people you have no knowledge of...

Problems with Windows 8 Pro laptop --> Win 2k8 R2 DC domain+forest functional level

There is no chance this will work. The OEM installer disks utilise three elements to validate a OEM activation: 1) OEM Specific Certificate 2) OEM Specific Key 3) Bios SLIC Marker (version 2.1 for Windows 7) The OEM disk from Lenovo will contain the top two and automatically insert...

Microsoft's First Windows 8 TV Spot: Love It or 8 It

Awful advert, really just awful - and I am a very irritating twenty something hipster with a reasonable amount of disposable income (also known as an ABC1). I have no issue with them trying to be flash and show off all the best features but like others have said, it shows nothing unique over...

Hardware Solution for Hiding My IP - In Plain English Please!

Wrong, the endpoint sees a shared IP, the VPN service provider itself can track everything...$40 a year does not buy anonymity it just shifts who can track you. Clearly you only read a small amount of this thread. The OP's question was far more broadranging than what does a router with VPN...

Hardware Solution for Hiding My IP - In Plain English Please!

Again I think you are missing the point, a VPN router will give you the ability to connect to a monthly paid VPN server somewhere else. This will then route all trafic through the VPN, essentially encrypting it from your ISP's eyes.- HOWEVER the paid VPN provider will still be able to see...

Hardware Solution for Hiding My IP - In Plain English Please!

Where are you tunnelling the VPN router too? Are you planning on paying for a VPN service? - I think you have completly missed the point of all the previous posters. This! I fear that you have heard VPN or TOR somewhere and think its some magic answer to your question, it isnt. There are...

    12th Generation Dell Servers

That is a stupid whitepaper indeed, tries to imply that Dell has some involvement in the Manufacture - we all know they are just OEM drives with Dell Fimware, admittely they always pick enterprise grade drives. In relation to the original question, I have some Dell T710's (with the rackmount...

This! I have been on since you needed a .ac.uk address over here in the UK so likely not long after you, also fast approaching 30 and everything you have said is correct. For me facebook is over, I keep my account up but rarely bother logging in which is a real shame as the premise was...

Where in the World Is Internet Explorer 10?

I know everyone seems to bash IE, but for corporations its use is pretty widespread so it being kept up to date is important. I wouldnt be suprised if MS silently tried to drop support but not for IE10 - that will just be slow, but there is no chance for IE11 when it comes round.

    HDD prices rising

Yeah it was meant it in a jokey way, forgot to put the smiley but the professor bit sort of implied it. On a side note, over here in the UK drives are slowly reducing in price, there does seem to be a premium on the high end consumer drives that isnt falling as fast as other segments of the...

    HDD prices rising

So professor, when demand outstrips supply the price goes....down? Your logic is semi-sound, however the reality wouldnt quite bear it out. The reason any manufacturer (in any industry) would allow itself to be screwed to the ground by any one customer would two fold, firstly to gain the...

    Hewlett-Packard to End Mobile Businesses

High End RISC stuff does well because for the last 30 years large financial houses have built their infrastructure around it, no way they are going to change that now. For IBM though their software and service purchases over the years turned them away from the consumer and solely into the...

Brands - Who Do You Use At Work?

Was just reading the 'Whitelists' thread over in General Hardware and someone mentioned it was unfair to base it on such a small sample, and I agree so figured I would start a slightly different thread over here specific to business related brands and to generate a mini database of opinions...

Why does anyone even bother with Exchange these days?

Different strokes for different folks I guess. Exchange is also a very nice product by the way, its tight AD integration makes it by far and away the easiest to manage for 99% of Admins plus its tight Outlook integration means that it is preferred by 99% of users.

Why does anyone even bother with Exchange these days?

Domino and Notes...if properly configured...is a huge leap ahead of Exchange and Outlook. Generally though, I dislike the idea of having huge amounts of sensitive data anywhere I cant get access to the disks and physical backups, no matter what assurances are made by the service provider.

    RAID 5: HDD FAIL

Not much from the production machine we have, its just windows 2008 server (very slightly) optimised for large storage and file sharing, there are no WHS features in there really and certainly nothing like client backup or media pools (well not the way WHS utilises them). Its just windows...

Windows Storage Server 2008: Has anybody fooled around with it?

We have a Dell SAN which runs on it, using the Microsoft iSCSI initiator. The iSCSI is really the only difference I noticed over running standard Server 2008, the file transfers seem the same speed and throughput as the other similar machines we have running plain 2008. There must however...

Yeah, it is waiting for you to put the Dell OEM COA key in that should have come on the underside sticker. It was very few Dell Machines that werent SLIC's for Vista yet were sold with a Vista license, only one I have ever seen was the Precision M65. The D600 was designed and release way...

I have a Dell laptop and changed cpus and my vista isn't activated!

The D600 BIOS was never SLIC2'd for Vista, I assume you used a Dell Vista Business OEM Install Disk (Dell Brown Colour OS Disk) and it never asked for a key but neither without the SLIC in the bios will it activate, just give you 30 days to do a real activation.

    XP on VMware

VMWare doesnt work like that. It creates a new virtual machine on top of your hardware, using the basic template and virtual hardware. The virtual machine never actually sees your real hardware and so will think it has whatever the VMWare software is telling it is there, which as I recall is...

how to block users from disabling the use of ISA as a proxy?

GPO will do this on a 2003 box. Somewhere under Internet Explorer Mantenience there is a option to diable the tabs in the IE control panel, just set the proxy in gpo and remove the tab which would allow the end user to change it. Otherwise just change your default gateway (assuming you are...

Perc 5i SAS Card For 680i SATA RAID?

Cheetah 15.4's are U320 drives, they arent going to run on a SAS controller. Also JBOD doesnt really count when its just one drive. Otherwise the Perc5i is a good solid card, wouldnt use it in a desktop as it simply isnt worth it but for a server environment it is pretty nice.
