Great job overall, especially on the wiring. My rack at home is nowhere near that clean! But I agree with the others that you put the money in the right places. If you can get away with saving a buck on using standard desktop equipment instead of expensive server grade stuff, go for it.

Wow... it just got insanely heated around here... Unfortunately I can't really throw anything knowledge-wise into this argument (Cisco vs PFsense) other than the fact that if PFsense (or smoothwall, m0n0wall, etc...) were as good as Cisco or Juniper, then you'd see them in massive networks...

Chances are it's some regional optical network. There are a bunch of them out there that have Lambda Rail in the name as well, though I guess it could just as easily be NLR, which would be the Global NOC as well. We like to do it all :)

i've never used MobileMe (or it's predecessor .Mac) but I use Google apps + DropBox and I'm perfectly happy. Google works great for email, syncing my calendars and my contacts, then dropbox handles backing up my files and allowing me to share them. I don't have an iPhone (Blackbery Storm FTW)...

Yeah, I was just trying to avoid paying $250 when the $100 should knock it down to $150. I originally got a deal last year and got the subscription for $100. It was nice.

Yeah, it's saying I don't have an active subscription anymore (it expired on 3/10). Tried calling them earlier to use the other code and they said since I was past the "30 day grace period" that I had to purchase a new subscription. Which is funny considering I still get several calls a week...

I wasn't that impressed with Untangle either when I tried it. The whole thing seems bloated and cumbersome. I've been using Smoothwall for some time now and have been MUCH happier with it, though I've considered testing m0n0wall or Endian if I get the time.
