i got it to work. i used hte "client installer" here http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Download and then used Increase to monitor it. make sure when you run it from the terminal (you type ./ to run something , so ./fah6) you use the -smp flag (so ./fah6 -smp)

you don't need a HD to run a live version of linux...and iirc, DSL (damn small linux) can boot off a floppy disk, in which case you can run prime95 memtest doesn't stress the CPU, it is not an accurate measurement of CPU performance under load. prime 95 is, both because it heats the CPU up...
