I've never had a virus. If it wasn't for MSE I wouldn't be running antivirus other than the occasional scan. My girlfriends computer got a hit with MSE when she plugged her work USB drive into it. The place she works runs commercial AV.
It means they are using Netflix instead of a cable subscription. I finally convinced my future wife to drop cable a few months ago and we haven't missed it.
Sorry, I zeroed it. I didn't think of these things before I zeroed it.
PS. I didn't specify but the 3870 works great. I got a deal on a used 4870 so I upgraded even though I really didn't need to.
FOR SALE:
PENDING PAYPAL: Western Digital Raptor 160GB version. $80 shipped.
WD1600ADFD - 75NLR1
I just zeroed and pulled it, works great. I need an excuse to buy a VelociRaptor.
Updated warranty information:
NO Warranty from WD. It was purchased from Dell, so I'm not sure if they...
I have 8GB GSkill too. I was using a RAM drive in XP, but recently upgraded to 64bit Vista. It was using 7GB yesterday.
I remember when I upgraded my computer to 8MB of EDO. I'm pretty sure that cost me a lot more.
I'd just get the 6401AALS. In fact, that's what I did. I got a 6400AAKS a couple months ago, and just got an AALS.
I've been running HD Tune benches on them, and apart from the results being very inconsistent, the AALS seems to be a little faster. I can't tell if there is any difference in...
I would say ZZF, but they don't have the AALS at the moment, so I bought it from Newegg. I'll let you know how it's packed.
Same thing happened when I tried to buy an AAKS from ZZF, they didn't have it at the time so I got it from Egg. It was in a plastic shell wrapped in bubblewrap. I...
I download and run free AV every time we have one of these threads (monthly) and have never had a virus. I got broadband in '97 through Adelphia and the first computer I built was a 486 running 3.1, so I've been doing this for a little while. If something changes where viruses actually become...
No, these games are still selling despite the DRM. Most people don't care.
Wait until the game hits the bargain bin if you really want to play it. Or buy DRM free games, like... anyone have a list? The Witcher? Sins of a Solar Empire and other games from Stardock.
You can also support...
This is a "dev" update, not a beta update. You have to subscribe to the dev channel to get this update. It's a work in progress before a more stable release.
I was using IE7, briefly switched to FF3, but now Chrome is my default. I like the simple interface.
It helps when you realize it's just a web browser, not a girlfriend. No need to get all attached ;)
I've never seen the 640AAKS at Zip. I sent them an email asking but they never answered. I ended up ordering from Newegg anyway, and the packaging was ok. Wrapped in bubble wrap and in a big box of peanuts.
I haven't played Bioshock yet, but I remember being dissapointed by SS2, thinking it was a great game but it wasn't as good as SS, the greatest game of all time.
Thanks for the coupon code.
I'm also wondering why they called it the NEW G15.
The only thing I dislike about the OLD G15 keybord is that it's huge. I'm thinking about buying it to replace my old G15, I won't miss the macro keys.
HT (Intel's name for Simultaneous multithreading, SMT) does not require a long pipeline, just about any superscalar CPU will have idle execution units. The Athlon had a much shorter pipeline, but more execution units than the P4, which would have been ideal for SMT.
Alpha's last chip (never...
You swallowed someones idea of a joke hook, line and sinker.
RHT never made any sense, and plenty of people pointed that out but where ignored. That seems to happen a lot in this forum.
Instruction parallelism is something that current chip designs spend a lot of hardware on to improve...
I'm using the ASUS P5ND2. I think there is a newer version out.
You don't have to get a great overclocking motherboard, since the chip runs at 133MHz FSB. By the time you hit 200 on the FSB, you are at 4GHz.
I noticed a difference after I upgraded to an HT capable CPU, I switched from using two computers and a KVM to using just the one. It was enough to keep me from going to a single core AMD when I upgraded later. But I also have multiple hard drives and a lot of memory.
He was including HT...
Simultaneous Multithreading (what Intel calls HT) is certainly not limited to the P4. Pretty much any superscalar processor will have idle execution units that can take advantage of it.
There are several processors that use SMT. Alpha had a processor that would have been the first to use...
Intel is in competition with itself. It has to get people to replace their old processors, so I doubt progress would be any slower.
Maybe without AMD, Intel would have never released the Netburst and it's massive pipeline. Who knows? edit: meaning, they would have stuck with a more...
Do a search, especially in the Intel forum. The D 805 is old news around here.
The whole motherboard thing is moot, because you aren't overclocking the motherboard. It is a 533MHz FSB chip. Just about anything that has voltage adjustments should be able to overclock the chip very well...
You can change the multi if the motherboard supports it. P5ND2 Deluxe is one that I know off the top of my head (non-deluxe model can NOT change multi).
When the A64 was announced plenty of people mentioned that it was not going to be some panacea, and there was really little point to all the hype and bandwagoning. It was certainly a brilliant move on the part of AMD to get more people interested in their products.
I don't know. There is a slight performance advantage offered by the extra bandwidth of DDR2-533 on the 800MHZ FSB.
Someone else has to know the answer, maybe you should ask in the Intel forum.
Yes, Dual Channel DDR2-400 would match the bandwidth of the 200MHz FSB, and the P5WD2 can operate in dual channel.
So, basically, you could save some money and go with a cheaper motherboard and RAM with the D 805...
OR, you could spend the extra bucks on the D 930, the P5WD2, overclockable...
