In the annals of history there comes a time at which every company out there must be defined by the success of it products. In the annals of ATi the R300 was a watershed moment. With the release of the Radeon Fury, this is the watershed moment. The moment when the turbulent forces of disparate...
I'll admit, BIOS flashing is not my strong point. I cannot find MSI's Live Update utility that is listed as working with Vista 32-bit. Any ideas? Installing Q6600:p

Installed these 2 yesterday. BFG OC edition. Moved from a 8800gts 320. The experience was mixed to say the least. On the positive side, 3dmark06 scored 13,600+ with the latest drivers and no OC. Aquamark hit 150,000. Was able to fit both in my case with the TV and soundcard. No problems, except...
I'm wondering if its really worth the effort to move to the Thermalright cooler even though my current temps as read by speedfan are 30c at idle, 45c at load (gaming). Using 1.42v on the core (CPU-Z). Also using an Antec 900 case.
Should I really worry about temps, or make the jump...
One thing I've notice is that with most games, I have to physically force the resolution to my monitor's resolution. I still cant get NFS2U to recognize my 1280 resolution. Anyone have a clue how to do this?
-Games mean nothing to you, benchmarks do!
-Dual instances of Prime is your friend!
-You spend more time in the BIOS of your PC than in your OS!
-Your workspace is cluttered with the carcasses of burnt-out still-smoking hardware from the last OC session you ran!
-Mirror, mirror on the wall who...
To see how far we've come in the videocard world, what's the earliest card review you can find?

I recently moved my PC while trying to install a new desk and dropped the desktop DVD RW drive I had connected by USB. Well, I thought something must have broken inside, but decided to try anyway. Connected the usb cable back to the PC, but got errors that too much power was being drawn from...
I wonder if there is a BIOS reset extension cable that easily allows you to reset your BIOS when it locks up due to oveclocking without having to remove the PC from its cubbyhole, maneuvering between components and resetting. This would make life much easier and allow me to experiment more...
Need something to hold me over until R600 comes out. Even then, i'l probably need to update my mainboard and Ram. So, is this a worthwhile upgrade, or is it more of a "sidegrade"?
I'm not a heavy gamer, but.....on occasion I like to get down.
I see the X1900XT for a "few" dollars more...
How do you get the recommended 30A on 12V rail power to your vidcard? I just installed an Antec SP500w with 17 and 19amps on 2 12V rails. Is there some kind of reverse power splitter that combines both? How dangerous is using a combined 36amps of power on a card with a 30amp recommendation?
What exactly does setting the V-link option (Normal or Fast) on motherboards with the VIA north- and southbridge do? I used to disable this not knowing it was related to the chipsets (dumb me). Now I discover it has to do with I/O performance.
Not too much info with google search.
I am currently doing an upgrade to the E6400 and Asrock Dual 775 VSTA MB, with DDR400 (2x512MB). I currently have WinXP installed on my system, but do not want to have to reinstall the OS all over again. Any advice as to how to proceed once I upgrade?
My current MB uses the PT880-Neo, and...

After upgrading my Audigy 1 to an X-Fi, I got the dreaded crash problem. Since Quake 4 worked before the upgrade, I knew it was sound card related. This is what worked for me after a little research and guess work:
1. Use Windows File Search and look...
I suppose sometimes in the near future some company will come out with a sound system that includes amplifiers, speakers, and an LCD interface. You would be able to input your exact room dimensions and speaker locations and you would have targeted sound delivered to a specified location within...
I notice on my BenQ FP931 19" monitor the monitor goes dark when you get to extreme angles to either side 90 degrees while sitting. However, the brightness is generally the same if, while at extreme angles you are standing up.
So generally speaking a person standing to the side of you will...
Card was working fine until I installed an ATI HDTV Wonder card. The Ati card worked, the WinTV card didn't. Removed Ati card, even reformatted, used system restore, nothing worked. The software would install fine, but when I launched the WinTV 2000 application, cpu use went up almost 100%...
I've been using 96DPI now for several months, till I decided to use 120DPI. Fonts are clearer and a little bigger. However, some windows don't expand to accomodate the bigger size, resulting in incomplete text. But overall, I like the setting much better.

For me it would have to be the BBA R9700Pro. Purchased in April of 2003, and still using till today, 2 years later.
Star Wars Republic Commando is its latest snack.
Well, after watching the Grammy's on OTA HD, with an ATi HDTV tuner card, all I can say is wow. I thought it looked great on a CRT, but the picture quality on the LCD was stunning. All this on a Benq FP 931 19" LCD monitor.
What's the best refresh rates for LCDs by the way? I have mine set to...
I purchased an LCD monitor (LG1720P) 2 weeks ago which I returned because, although great sharpness and color, it just did not feel right somehow. I bought the Viewsonic A91f+ (utterly worthless, not worhty of the Viewsonic name) and returned that too. Enter Samsung's 997DF.
Good monitor...
How do I make Opera display all web page text using the verdana font, for example? In Netscape it's quite easy. But Opera doesn't allow for just font changes alone in user mode, or does it?
Just picked up this monitor today, after considering the NEC1735NXM and the Samsung 173P. This monitor looked the best of the displays on the floor at Bestbuy, and with the reviews from PC World which rated a similar model as having oustanding text and graphics, I made the plunge ($460 minus...
I am about to pick up a 17in LCD today. I have narrowed my choice down to the Samsung 173p and the LG Flatron 1720P. I don't game much, I do mostly graphics and text, and watch HDTV via ATi HDTV tuner sometimes.
Any recommendations?
I tested two LCDs at the local PC store (Viewsonic VX710? and NEC/Mitsubishi LCD1935nxm). Both had analog connections. DVD looked like crap (very grainy looking) on both, at least compared to my current CRT 19" Trinitron (no comparison yet). I figured it was because of the analog connection...
I'll be upgrading from the 9700pro to the 6800GT soon, and was wondering about the 2D quality compared to the 9700 pro. Is there an improvement in 2D?
Thanks.
I currently use Opera Beta 8. Its the fastest I've used. The following linked review confirms it.

While browsing around the local Compusa store, I found this monitor which caught my attention and didn't let go. I compared it to the Samsung and Sony monitors, and text was just as sharp, screen brightness was impressive and contrast great. All this while using the analog input and without...
I viewed Microsoft's HD WMV content on both my 19" Dell Trinitron (Circa 2000) and my work LCD: Dell 2001FP. I noticed that HD content looks better on the CRT than on the LCD. I was hoping to go the LCD route soon, but HD content (including OTA HD) has me thinking otherwise. It looks good on the...
