I went from a Dell 2209WA at 75Hz to a Planar SA2311W. It feels a lot better with overdrive on, but is still worse than a CRT. Without overdrive, it honestly isn't much better than the Dell. Overdrive does cause artifacts (white trails) that can be distracting in certain situations.
I have a Planar SA2311W and passed 12 on the pixperan readability test at 120hz with overdrive on (after a few attempts). The text gets distorted at that speed, but it is possible to tell the difference between most letters.
That said, I was a bit disappointed coming from a 2209WA at...
The problem is that this does not encourage proper teamplay. Most people will be stuck with the default loadout. Who is going to repair the base or play support roles?
If they stick with the microtransaction model, they need to include a full package at a reasonable price and market it as the...
Does anyone have experience with the SA2311W?
My Dell 2209WA just died, and I'm looking to move to 120Hz without losing too much picture quality. Every 120Hz monitor has mixed reviews, but I can't find much on the Planar.
This mouse tape works great on my G9: http://www.amazon.com/CS-Hyde-PTFE-Mouse-Color/dp/B003DZ16X4
$8 and free shipping if you total over $25 from Amazon. Otherwise, $3 shipping from their website: http://www.cshyde.com/c4web/Accessories.htm.
My computer had regular gray screens and BSODs after installing my XFX 5850. It turns out the card brought out instability in my CPU/memory overclock. The problems went away after tweaking those. It had nothing to do with the 5850, which is perfectly stable (and nearly silent) at 940/1150.
I am definitely tracking the text with my eyes. Unless you are moving the window very slowly, or your LCD is much faster than both my home and work monitors (2209WA@75Hz and 2232BW @75Hz), I have a hard time believing the text stays crisp while moving. Perhaps you haven't used a CRT in so long...
I can easily see the blurring in the window and in FPS games, even after over a year with my LCD. I'm used to it, so it doesn't really bother me. Some people are more sensitive to it, I guess.
Anyone can see ghosting. Just shrink your browser window and move it around. You don't even have to move it fast for the text to blur enough to be unreadable.
Changing between 60Hz and 76Hz on my 2209WA is noticeable not only in shooters, but also with cursor movement in Windows. Every once in a while it resets to 60Hz when I start Windows, and I can instantly see it.
The difference between the 2209WA and a good CRT is far greater. That said, I...
How do you hold your mouse?
I just went from an MX500 to the Alienware TactX (G9x clone with fixed grip). With fingertip grip I find the TactX more comfortable. However, those with palm grip consider it too small.
That doesn't look too hard with a thin tip soldering iron and a magnifying lens. Buy your own and practice on an old PCB until you're comfortable. Then you can fix your card and learn a useful skill in the process!
A few suggestions if you want to try it:
Soldering Iron:
I use this, but...
I received mine yesterday and have had no trouble moving to it from my MX500 I've been using for years. It feels a lot more accurate and actually works better with my grip (fingertip).
The only problem I've found is that the drivers cause FEAR to run slowly, which seems to be a common problem...
I'm happy with my Brother MFC-495CW. Staples has it on sale for $100.
You can save a lot in the long run because it works with generic ink. Check Amazon for extra ink.
I had a similar problem where it would randomly freeze and hard reset itself every week or two. After flashing to the stock ROM, locking it, then unlocking and flashing back it has been stable.
I have a Q6600 at 3.33GHz and an XFX 5850 at 900/1125. It runs flawlessly at 1680x1050 with everything maxed, no HBAO, 1xAA/8xAF. I could easily turn up the AA/AF, but I can't notice the difference and don't want to risk dropping below 60fps. The 5850's fan is on auto and maxes at 31%. Its...
Powerstrip does not work with 58xx cards, so I had to create a custom inf to get 75Hz with my 5850. It's probably the same for the 5770.
Check http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/7947-force-dvi-hdmi-resolutions-refresh-rates.html for instructions.
It's not from the Nvidia drivers since I ran driver sweeper before installing the 5850. Just in case, I ran drivercleaner in safe mode over the weekend, but nothing changed. Also, it's exactly the same in my windows XP partition.
I just found a solution to the refresh rate problem here...
I replaced my 8800GTS with a brand new XFX 5850 last night. I didn't spend a lot of time with it, but a few issues kept me from feeling happy with the purchase.
It runs much better with most games I tested, so I really want to love this card!
Refresh rate:
How do I force the refresh...
I PM'd last night and got the call this morning.
After holding onto my 8800gts 320 for this long, I thought I could wait a few months for prices to drop.... Then I tried Shattered Horizons. A few months with the card is worth the extra $50.
I did connect the hard drive at work since I needed some files for taxes... but the HD isn't needed to post.
I know the cpu, memory, and vid card are ok. The only things I haven't tested with another system are the mobo and psu, but I replaced them both.
:(
My computer refuses to POST - no beeps whatsoever, but the fans and drives spin. I have checked or replaced all basic components, but nothing works. Needless to say, I won't be using my computer as a foot rest again!
Specs:
-Mobo- Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 rev 1.0
-E6600 @3.33GHz w/ Tuniq...
Check out this LCD guide: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=31&threadid=2049206&enterthread=y and scroll down to recommendations. The Planar PX2611W looks like the best non-TN monitor for gaming. It's a bit pricey, but I'm seriously considering it.
I have been searching for a relatively low-priced laptop primarily for school: web browsing and word processing, but also for watching some movies.
The Dell Inspiron 6400 seems to be popular on slickdeals (change CPU to T2250):
OS - Windows Vista Basic
CPU - Intel® Core Duo T2250...
I like the size, but have to agree about the comparison. I've been considering the 37w3 for a while, but comparing it in Best Buy kills it for me. Maybe it has a bad signal, but it just doesn't look good next to the others. All these positive reviews are tempting, though...
Has anyone tried...
I ordered those Super Talents and had to RMA them because they couldn't even hit stock timings. The replacement barely does, but has no overclocking headroom. I don't think they're using D9s anymore :(
