What are your favorite sad games?

Descent Freespace has a sad atmosphere for 90% of the game. The music really set the mood well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSYwXhp-bVk

    Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Trailer

I loved the yellow filter from the start. I hope a mod comes out for this game to put it back in. :)

Daniel Craig Would Rather Kill Himself Than Play James Bond Again

Agreed. I'd love to see Stringer... I mean Idris in the role. He'd do a great job.

    Batman: Arkham Knight

Heh, the comments section on that Steam post really says it all.

    Star Citizen Departures?

It remains to be seen how painful they will make the experience of earning the ship though. That's how mobile developers have forced people into micro-transactions. With the huge price tag, the "earn it" method will have to be a pretty ridiculous gauntlet to keep those who purchased it happy...

    Star Citizen Departures?

Honestly, at this point I think Star Citizen is just as bad for PC gaming as it could be good. It's demonstrated the pent-up demand for a genre, and it's shown the money that can be made in the PC space (as if Steam hadn't done that already). Those are good things. However, it's also shown...

    Star Citizen Departures?

I put in $45 initially as a show of faith in a genre I love, and was sad to see dead. It wasn't the Freespace 3 that I really want, but I was hoping Squadron 42 could be something close. The more I learned about it after the KS campaign ended, and the more money they've raked in, the more...

Disney To Re-Release Theatrical Cuts Of The Original Star Wars Trilogy

Yeah, I'm cool with them touching up the special effects. But please, no CGI in the theatrical cuts. If they want to do a side-by-side release again, that's fine. But us "purists" don't like the philosophy of adding tons of visual clutter to a scene to "enhance it" like the animals in the...

Map Of US States Compares Energy Use With Foreign Countries

But for your point to be accurate, you still have to prove that the energy difference between Germany and an equivalently-sized U.S. state is due to a disparity in high-energy industry/business, which you haven't done. My contention was that there are plenty of high-energy point sources in...

Map Of US States Compares Energy Use With Foreign Countries

lol, nationalistic fervor. I live in Colorado. Your comparison didn't make much sense. I agree with your second sentence, but it was not clear at all from your post that I replied to.

Map Of US States Compares Energy Use With Foreign Countries

I don't really want to get involved in the nationalistic dick measuring contest that's starting to break out in this thread, but you're delusional if you think Germany is some backwater. It's just a technologically advanced as the U.S. and probably has a healthier manufacturing sector all things...

Disney To Re-Release Theatrical Cuts Of The Original Star Wars Trilogy

The theatrical versions don't have CGI. And they shouldn't in this re-release.

Map Of US States Compares Energy Use With Foreign Countries

I disagree. Texan energy usage is part of the Texan lifestyle. You are talking about standard of living, not lifestyle. And yeah, many European countries have a similar standard of living while using much less energy (e.g. Denmark).
  14. D

Map Of US States Compares Energy Use With Foreign Countries

Well, we don't have it quite right either. We could maintain our standard of living and use quite a bit less energy. But I'd argue that, for better or worse, conspicuous consumption has been central to the American lifestyle since WW2.

Map Of US States Compares Energy Use With Foreign Countries

Furthermore, Texas, with the energy usage of Brazil, has 1/8th the population. American lifestyle necessitates American energy usage. It's not complicated.

    Unreal Tournament Pre Alpha

Finally gave this a try. The finished maps are beautiful and the gameplay is fun. I really miss double-jump though.

    Mass Effect: Andromeda

I don't absolve Drew Karpyshyn completely though. Apparently he is responsible for Kai Leng from the spin-off books he wrote. I'm not a fan of magical space ninjas with plot armor. Kasumi pushed that line, but her mission was so good it didn't matter too much. The Kai Leng missions were the...

    Mass Effect: Andromeda

ME3 was two-faced. It feels the original team made half of the game (Tuchanka, Rannoch), and a group of people who have never played Mass Effect made the rest (Palaven, Kai Leng, Earth). I didn't mind the simplified inventory management, but the game sorely needed some puzzles and minigames to...

    Mass Effect: Andromeda

It certainly could work, as the side missions in ME2 were the best thing about the game. If you're saying Bioware in its current state couldn't pull it off... well, perhaps so. Was DA:I that bad?

Why is BioWare the only company making games like Mass Effect?

Hopefully we get some more news on Cyberpunk 2077 next year.

Why is BioWare the only company making games like Mass Effect?

Human Revolution reminded me a lot of Mass Effect with stealth. Actually, I thought HR did a lot of things better. It doesn't have the interesting world building of Mass Effect though.

    Deus Ex : Mankind Divided

True. The only way one could say that conclusively is by trusting comments from the publisher. But that's ridiculous, when the pubs have been compulsive liars in the past. It's in their interest to deceive. The average consumer doesn't care, and sometimes even punishes honesty.

    Deus Ex : Mankind Divided

Missing out on a mission is what kills it for me. By the time I bought Human Revolution, the Tracer Tong mission was included in the GOTY (or whatever it was called) version that I bought on Steam. I'll wait for the same here. Honestly, I'm still salty about the Mass Effect 3 day 1 DLC. That...

    Deus Ex : Mankind Divided

I was going to buy this game when it came out (assuming impressions were good), but I think I'll wait until the ultimate/DLC/whatever edition comes out instead after all of this nonsense.

    FlatOut 4: Total Insanity.

Like the third one, it's not being made by Bugbear, so I'll reserve judgement. I didn't play it, but the third game did not look promising.

    Defense Grid 1 and 2

Another "traditional" TD that is a lot of fun (and very cheap) is Super Sanctum TD.
  27. D

    Mass Effect: Andromeda

I don't think Bioware has the guts to do it, but I'd love it if your goal in ME4 was simply to travel the new galaxy and do small missions, explore, and perhaps build up a team like in the second game. No existential threat, no grand mission.

Cliff Bleszinski Says PC Is The Only Way To Go

I think he just follows the money, and he sees the PC market resurgence and the stagnation in the console market. If he makes interesting games again I'll try them, but I hold no loyalty to him for his Unreal work 15+ years ago.

    Deus Ex : Mankind Divided

Yeah, the biggest issue I have with the in-game trailer graphics is noticeable aliasing and some fuzziness. Ignoring YouTube artifacting, those kinds of things are easily fixed with high resolutions on PC. I don't think this will be a powerhouse, but I think it'll look great regardless. I loved...

South Park: The Fractured but Whole

I'm fine with them altering combat as long as they keep it turn based. I really appreciated that about SoT.
  31. D

    Mass Effect: Andromeda

A lot in your post there. Completely agree with you on Mac Walters. The writing took a major turn for the worse when he became story lead for ME2 and ME3. The ending didn't bother me as much as the cheesy schlock like the Terminator final boss in the second game and that Asian kung-fu side kick...

I'd probably pre-order Half-Life 3 if they had decent incentives. But that's it. So I think I'm in the clear.

    Doom

Nice! Yeah the sound design in the trailers is pretty lacking. Where's the music? All I hear is pretty bland electronic beats. I like that they have an updated door opening sound, but they should have incorporated some other cues. I really miss the clack-clack-clack reload sound on the double...

    Doom

I guess this is as fast as games get in the console era, but it's still too slow for Doom. The level design doesn't look that inspired from the clip either, but I'll wait to fully judge that until we get more media.

    The Music of HL2

As much as I love the HL games, music isn't their strong point. There are some good tracks, but overall I found Kelly Bailey's HL2 soundtrack to be a bit of a disjointed mess. I much prefer Mike Morasky's Portal 2 soundtrack. It's a shame he hasn't been able to write much else for Valve given...

    Hatred (postal clone) out monday

I don't really care about the controversy, though the subject matter doesn't really appeal to me. The real problem is that the gameplay looks pretty boring once you get past the neat aesthetic.

    Fallout 4

Pretty sure this will be running on id Tech. Isn't that one of the main reasons Bethesda bought them?

What do you think of the paid modding model employed by Valve?

Yeah... a pay-as-you-want model I could get behind. I'm not a big fan the current implementation.
