Sony Accidentally Retweets PS3 'Jailbreak' Code

Dear Mr. Bennett: Thank you for purchasing your new NX-93150-EEx Extreme Edition Pacemaker. We hope you have been enjoying trouble-free heart rhythm control thanks to the NX-93150-EEx Extreme Edition Pacemaker. However, it has come to our attention that you attempted to overclock the...

Sony Lawyers Targeting Anybody Posting PS3 Hack

So, let me get this right: Sony uses Linux as the base operating system of the PS3, and then has gall to tell people they can't alter OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE for their own uses? Wait... why haven't they sued Iran and Iraq (and a few hundred other third-world countries) that are hacking PS3's and...

White House Will Propose New Digital Copyright Laws

Wrong: copyright infringement is taking a work (or a part of a work), and passing it off as your own. Merely digitally copying and redistributing said work isn't copyright infringement. If you sell said work and profit from it, you're guilty of trafficking in stolen goods; OTOH, if you merely...

Win7x64 won't start, boot critical file missing :wtf:

omfg, my cut'n'paste shenanigans are busted... <_< >_> ;) Yeah, it was you, and I ended up on MS's pages about it, and from what I read, Alureon likes to infect system .dll's while it's doing its thing; and, since the initial error was a "damaged or corrupt HAL.DLL in \system32, perhaps...

Win7x64 won't start, boot critical file missing :wtf:

Well, I caved. :( I finally gave up and restored my only backup, from last June, and have begun doing the user accounts, library links, and a deep level scan of the hd in question. As soon as I have it back where it belongs, I'll make damn sure to do a full-on backup. I also think it's time...

Win7x64 won't start, boot critical file missing :wtf:

The story so far: Just ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool, afaik it hasn't reported a problem. Just did chkdsk, it came back mostly clear except for two bad clusters, both within the Windows directory tree, both not seemingly part of the OS. I'm uploading the iScreencap as we speak...

Win7x64 won't start, boot critical file missing :wtf:

Startup repair fails every time. Memory test runs, but I can't access the log (don't know how, more like). All critical data is on the second drive, so I'm gold there. But I'll do the chkdsk--the thought of a failed disk bugs me, cuz it's less than a year old.

Win7x64 won't start, boot critical file missing :wtf:

    Lightning Strikes Gamer's House

Think of MOVs as body armor: every time they take a hit, they lose a little more ability to protect. Eventually, they fail, and most times no one is the wiser. As stated before, the only way to go is UPS/AVR units, followed by (or supplemented with) SM devices. And even then, if it's a true...

    Today's lesson: Thermodynamics 101

Good catch, Bill, and you're right: Asus documentation states clearly that the components near the HSF must get flow from the HSF to cool properly, and they even included a small fan to attach to the cooling fins near the CPU in case a non-stock HSF is used. If I even do the tower design, I'll...

Today's lesson: Thermodynamics 101 (crossposted in Cooling)

Why not consider a duct, similar to what I drew up? That way NO HSF hot exhaust air gets into the case at all; nor will the mobo/vidcard heat affect the CPU cooling.

Today's lesson: Thermodynamics 101 (crossposted in Cooling)

Yes, I know, I goofed, I got the wrong law, so sue me. :p Besides, the point is to shoe a decent setup and to initiate discussion, because there are so many setups that screw themselves with wrong airflow: watercoolers that push hot case air thru the radiator, or worse take the radiator exhaust...

    Today's lesson: Thermodynamics 101

So far, what I've observed is that the air is pretty much going around the duct, and still being pulled out the top. If anything, the area directly below the CPU might be seeig some flow stalling there, but I doubt it. I thought about putting a shield beteen the duct and the top corner, spaced...

Today's lesson: Thermodynamics 101 (crossposted in Cooling)

10 degF drop is what I got, which isn't insignificant. You're right about the aftermarket HSF, but 'til I can afford one, which isn't right now, and I'm ready to overclock, this works for now. Besides, the principles are sound, and worth noting.

Or: How To PROPERLY Cool A Computer in 20 Easy Steps (:pics:) So, for today's lesson, we will learn the basics of cooling a computer. Simply put: cool air in, hot air out. Since the first law of thermodynamics states that temperature "flows" from hot to cold, this is critical to...

Memory upgrade for HP Pavillion DV6119us...

I had someone on Genmay, as well as in different forums found via Google, mention that 4gb could be installed and run fine, but I chickened out and pulled the trigger on a couple sticks of 1GB for a total of two. :-\ At least it'll run better.

Updating to Win7x64: issues with moving the libraries

Updating to Win7x64: issues with moving the libraries

I've finally upgraded to Win7x64, and it's NIICE... but I'm trying to move all my libraries (directories) from the C:\users\me to my data drive (F:\, separate unit).
