Hey there, the CPU in my kid's PC recently pooped out. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I didn't make sure the retail HSF was properly secured. Oh well, all this tweaking, bound to miss something at some point.
Anyway, it had a Celeron 2.4 (Socket 478, 400 MHz FSB) and I...
I actually had spent a bit of time Googling on the subject before I posted. The search term you provided gave me even less to go on than I already found. (As as side note, whenever I give someone a UTFG I check to make sure the search term I spout actually gets the information.)
In any...
I would think that at least we should be able to have a link and simple text formatting. (Bold, unlderline, one font size higher and lower than normal)
I mean, most people use their sigs for their rig stats and it would sure be nice to be able to draw attention to the important stuff. This...
I can't believe this thread is still going. Folks, sometimes we bork the things we love. Anyone who has been modding long enough has killed something at some point. Perhaps not a whole component like a video card but certainly everyone has their share of stripped screws, bent brackets, broken...
Sorry but I have to agree somewhat. When it comes down to it, what's more appealing, a furry chimp or a pretty fairy? Fairy wins every time. Did it make me buy Nvidia this time around? No, look at my sig. But if I were to show off my card with a tech demo to a friend, guess which one I'm...
The problem w/ [H]ard video card reviews isn't the fact that the graphs are FPS over time. That is actually a very good idea. The problem is that they don't compare apples to apples. Comparing one card at one setting to another at a different setting is, well, stupid. It tells you nothing...
OK, what better place to throw my 2 cents in right?
I too have noticed much hostility on the board lately. I hope it's just a passing phase but it sure seems that there are lots of folks who are quick to flame others, especially poor noobs asking (get ready for it) noob questions.
Get...
I am specifically referring to the AT layout of the motherboard. Mine, for instance, is an actual AT form factor board with AT style power connectors. I did this some time ago to make use of an AT case I had.
<edit>FYI it is an Asus P2L-B</edit>
Congrats on your first OC!
1) You're right, the act of overcloking in and of itself is not usually hard.
2) Keep in mind that "[H]ard" does not equal "Hard" So what is [H]ard? Good question. The folks that run [H]ard|ocp admit that they don't even know what it means but the consensus...
The case is not an Exos, the Exos is an external unit that is designed to be used by those without a watercooled case. But from what I understand, the WC components of the cases are nearly identical to the Exos units.
There is no performance difference between the Exos and the Exos-AL...
Don't touch anything! If it is artifacing at stock speeds, just send it back. This really is a no brainer. Even if you could get it to stop artifacing with a re-apply of the stock heatsink or addition of 3rd party cooling, you shouldn't have to! The first 9800 Pro I got off eBay did this and...
<sarcasm>
Be careful kids! The VGA silencer has been known to burn crops and steal children!
</sarcasm>
Seriously though, nice review, thanks for the effort. I have one running on my kids' PC at low speed in an effort to quiet it down. I have installed it on two cards for a total of 4...
You're getting black screens at stock speeds? Are you sure the molex connector is plugged into the power supply properly?
If it gives you black screens at stock speeds just send it back.
It only requires one PS connection and it has a passthrough so you don't have to terminate the line from the PS on the card.
As for having enough power, I can't speak to the quality of that particular PS but I would think you will be OK with a 400 W PS so long as it performs as it claims.
First of all, are you sure the fan is spinning?
Secondly, if you get a bunch of artifacts immediately after starting the "Find Max Core" test, stop it and start again. I get this sometimes. Bug maybe, I don't know.
I recall that out of the two I've dealt with, one would only hit around...
A decent watercooling setup will most likely net you some sort of increase in OC if you're upgrading from a stock cooler. Of course it's possible that your chip is maxed out but it's more likely that you will see some improvement.
That being said, it probably won't make a monumental...
You may have read that in my review. The problem with the snap clamps that come with the koolance waterblocks is that they can (or should) only be used once because of their tendancy to deform. Using reular hose clamps does require that you know how far to tighten them but it just makes me...
Not very hard to get the stock cooler off. Just sit down comfortably with a pair of pliers, squeeze the pin ends together and pull it off.
As for the waterblock, I use the GPU-180-L06 on my 9800 Pro. I find that the rotating nozzles give alot of flexibility in how you can run the tubing...
