The LSI 9260-8i looks to be what I'm looking for, good price and performance. Since it only has 2 internal Mini-SAS SFF8087 ports (8 drives) do I need to buy an expander or something for 8+ drives?
I'm looking to upgrade my current file server that has 2 x Highpoint 2220 pci-x card. The cards are configured to 3 raid 5 arrays, 15 drives total (WD reds and samsung). I'd like to replace those cards since pci-x is a dated interface along with the performance of the cards.
I don't have...
Thanks. He decided on the 480 since it was slightly cheaper then the 1060. He plays a variety of games and isn't going to choose based on video card. He isn't huge into AAA titles unless it gets great ratings. I think he'll be happy until the next upgrade cycle.
That's too bad, this community used to be the best to get good information and opinions.
These days a lot of information is marketing and nomenclature which is a pain to re-educate myself. I know its been like this for a few years but sucks to also have to buy a video card based on what...
My buddy needs to update his video card from a radeon 6970. He's still running his 2500k at 4.4ghz which is still sufficient for his needs. I usually recommend an AMD card since you get the most bang for the buck in the mid range sector. However, this time around it seems like the RX 480 and...
Its quite alright. I did some reading on the motherboard and it has compatibility issues with pci express 3.0 cards. I know it should be backwards compatible but they never released a bios to address the issue. I have purchased a used Radeon 6870 that should work fine for light gaming duties.
So during our Thanksgiving trip my family in-laws asked me to take their PC home with me and fix it of all the viruses and such. I'm planning on wiping the HD of everything and doing a few light upgrades if it can be a decent gaming machine. Here are the specs...
Not sure how many of those are split/local co-op. The trine series are but i don't believe orcs must die has it. Orcs must die 2 has lan support but not sure if there is split screen. Plants vs zombies warfare isn't local co-op which is disappointing and confusing since Xbox one and ps4 have...
I'm playing dungeon defenders with the kids and is pretty fun. However I'm not sure of the hardware requirements. There are some racing games that would work as well. Looking forward to other replies since I'm in the same situation.
I try not t buy Ubisoft games after I bought one of the heroes of might and magic that was buggy unable to complete. Their solution was to stop offering support and patches. Great company to release a broken game and not fix it.
If possible I'd audition the speakers at a local store first and see if you like the sound. Your room is pretty large and I don't think that sub will cut it, I'd either recommend multiple subs or a 15" to 18". I'm not a huge bass head but for movies it's nice to have the extended low end range...
I'd spend as much money as you can on a 2.0 system as there's where most of the sound is coming from anyway. You can always add to the system in the future and you would already have a great foundation to a system.
I'd agree with the others and go audition some of the speakers out there...
From what I've read the Blendtec has this issue as well. Vitamix has redesigned their jars to fix this issue and should be releasing them later this year.
Are you overclocking your current CPU (no idea how the 2100 overclocks or H77 chipset)? That's a good way of getting free performance.
I wouldn't mind buying a used CPU from a forum user here. I've always overclocked my CPUs and have yet to have one die on me yet.
A SSD won't help your...
I will be upgrading my home server from Windows 2008 Server - Standard edition to Windows 2012 Server - Standard edition but had questions about CALS as I have never had to deal with them. Since I'm in a home environment with 3-5 PCs do I need to worry about CALS?
The server is used mostly a...
To me it sounds weird that it was all working before you decided to replace the case fans, heatsink and PSU. Is it actually booting up and then restarting or is it booting up and shutting down and you have to cycle the power again?
As you've already done, I'd take everything out of the case...
Might want to look at your first storage option. I think the WD1001FALS is an older version of the black drive. You can save a few bucks by going with the newer faster drive at $69.99.

Got mine yesterday. At [email protected] not sure if I want to try to push it farther. A few hundred mhz shouldn't give me that much of a performance boost but we'll see how much time I want to invest tweaking it further.
Well I'm heading off the Microcenter to upgrade a current HTPC with light gaming (X2 250). I found a deal with the AMD 8320e ($99) and Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB mATX ($54.99-$40 ) board for $123. Reusing other parts. Does Intel have a better chip in the same price range? Probably pair it up with...
I use MyMovies and WMC. Mymovies has an app for various devices and I use mine with the Ipad. You can set up your Ipad app to control your HTPC, choose the movie you want to play and it will play it on your HTPC. Pretty easy navigation. Can't comment on the other platforms.
I use autohotkey and create a macro to change audio devices. Here's a sample of my script:
#*F1:: -Windowskey + F1
Run, mmsys.cpl -Run Sound Control Panel
WinWait,Sound...
I don't see the profile manager, I did find a hotkeys manager under preferences that has some predefined settings but not one to make my own. I'm using Cat 13.1
Probably not that often but would be nice to hit hotkeys to swap between the two instead of disabling monitors and changing sound source...guess if there's no easy solution I have to make a script. =)
