We've been a Dell shop since about 1993 now. The quality of their power supplies has varied greatly over the years, depending on the model and spec.
Old Dimension models (XPS R through the 4550) were pretty reliable.
I've never found an OptiPlex power supply that I've liked. Even the fans in...
These are by far my favorite power supply reviews. These days, excellent power supplies are plentiful, and if you don't need 500+ Watts (even many enthusiasts don't), you can have a great PSU that will last years for $50. But it's good and very important that the reviewers for equipment that's...
I want a new motherboard because... well, one can just never have too many motherboards lying around!
Actually, I'd really like the P55 one because LGA 1156 is about the only platform that I don't really have much hands-on experience with. I've got the rest pretty well covered.
CM has been shoveling crappy units off as "enthusiast" power supplies for years in some of their product lines. Judging by the unimpressive (and silly-outdated) "Elite" and "eXtreme Power" lines, the conclusion on the GX model fails to surprise me. Considering how decent the Silent Pro is...
I know all about it, man. I've had a number of Latitude D620s and D630s with Quadro NVS 110Ms and 135Ms (rough equivalents of the 6150) go tits-up lately, all due to video corruption and instability issues. I'm going out of my way to avoid Nvidia cards on my workstations and notebooks here in...
The X5680 seems to be officially supported on all of the EVGA X58 series boards with the newest BIOS, from the look of it. Might be a good place to start!
Since when?
Ripple is actually not so bad while delivering 500W. It'll deliver 500W, just nothing more. Gabe T's reviews are pretty well-regarded, and he's not a reviewer that just hooks it up to a Core2 machine, checks voltages in software, and writes about it...
Sounds like you're...
This should probably be in the AMD CPU section, but I'll shoot anyway.
1) 1.05v from the BIOS is very low for this CPU, and it's probably the reading it gives you when the CPU is idle and clocked down via power-control features. 1.3v is usually right around default voltages at default "load"...
I've had a set of HD570s for what must be going on 12 or 13 years now. They've been dropped, stepped on, and abused in all sorts of terrible ways, but have never, ever skipped a beat. They make most other headphones I've used sound like absolute rubbish, and I picked them up for cheap on Ubid...
Actually, most of what you're paying for is driver validation for professional and scientific applications. FirePro drivers will (purposely) only work with FirePro hardware unless you start hacking at stuff, but the GPUs on a FirePro are tested, tested, and tested again for proper rendering and...
Not familiar with a company called "Ryco" at all... sure it's not Rubycon?
ETA : if it's not Rubycon, Panasonic, Sanyo, or United Chemicon, I simply wouldn't buy them... maybe Teapos, too, depending on the application.
The only Intel board I've built a system with (a DAS for work) was a DP35DP. Personally, I thought it was crap... took a lot of fidding with BIOS options for proper operation with good performance. Interestingly, it was very picky with memory, of all things...
Personally, I'd take a good...
If it's a laptop, a bunch of newer models are susceptible to thermal throttling. When they hit their heat threshold (an all-too-common occurrence considering the limited cooling systems at their disposal) they'll automatically scale back in voltage and clock speed. I could see that as...
With a 40C idle temp, load temps might not be stellar. Probably not destructive, but you'll definitely be pushing the envelope of what the cheapie heat sinks that come with most of AMD's CPUs can do. You'll often-times see stability take a downward spiral with load temps of 60-65C on lots of...
The 9750 is not on the compatibility list on Zotac's site.
As a 125W CPU, the TDP is higher than Zotac recommends for their boards (95W).
I'm not trying to be an ass when I say it, but I'd cancel that order, as even for $110, that package isn't worth it. Nor does it seem to be compatible...
The only substantial difference between the P43 and P45 are that P45 will support Crossfire for ATi graphics cards. P43 has no such capability.
The P43, generally speaking, won't overclock as well as most P45 motherboards. Whether or not this is in the works is up to you. If you want to...
Your figuring is correct. Anyone that thinks a video card (any video card) uses 35A on a 12v rail (420W) is fucked. Also check the [H] full system power consumption notes in their video card tests for a much better idea of how much power these cards consume.
I think what people tend to not...

X4 620 + Biostar TA790GXE 128M. $169. Decent onboard video, and a good overclocking rig to boot.
A quick Google Shopping search comes up with the following Socket 939 CPUs:
X2 3800+ (2.0GHz) - $146
X2 4200+ (2.2GHz) - $163 (used)
X2 4600+ (2.4GHz) - $350
You may be able to find them cheaper on Ebay (prices are quite high for these there as well) or Craigslist, but that's luck of the draw...
There are Engineering Sample 32nm Xeons floating around as we speak. Some are quad-core parts with no Hyperthreading, some are hex-cores with HT, all LGA1366 parts. So, if by "quite some time" you mean "about two months", then you're probably right. ;)
There are multiple board revisions of that motherboard. If you really do have the v.1.0 revision, the CPU isn't in the support list. The v.2.0 of the board does support the 920 and 940; the reviews probably don't specify, and most folks wouldn't have bothered to check before writing a review...
Blech, the GT 240 barely runs with the GeForce 9600 GT that it was derived from. The very low power consumption of the GTS 240 is its only real redeeming quality. OP could get by on their stock 250W or 300W power supply in that PC, and that's worth something, I guess.
The down side is that...
$100 isn't an acceptable price for either IMO, but the GTX is much closer. An HD 3870 is inefficient at higher resolutions and anti-aliasing settings. You can pick them up used all over the place for about $50; I bought two a few months back for about $110 including shipping from a seller in...
Hmm... looks like the Rev. 1 MA770-DS3 doesn't support any Phenom IIs or Athlon IIs officially. Just first-gen Phenom models and Athlons.
So yeah... OP might need a new board before doing anything, anyway...
The Rev. 2 board, however, seems to support the whole array of Phenom IIs and...
What was the 7950 XXX on release? $350? $400? I think, like others, that they owe you an equally-valued card in return. The 9500 GT is a limp-wristed, office-user card. That's a really weak offer - I wouldn't accept it. Either another 7950 XXX, or something that will make your investment...
