mine is a mix of spares and cheap parts I had laying around
antec titan case (huge overkill but needed for the mobo I had)
supermicro x7dbn
dual l5310s (might upgrade these soon given how cheap l5410's are)
32gb ram
3tb barracuda
esxi5.1 booting off 8gb flash drive
Its certainly...
I'll admit, I've been spoiled, for years now I've moved into the land of being a mostly os/network admin. I've really not followed the hardware at an obsessive level like I used to, I've focused more on making linux do the stuff. I use virtual machines more very day though and would like to...
Hey guys I do consulting work and sometimes wind up with old equipment. I usually buy new gear so I'm not really sure the best prices to sell stuff at or even where to go for it and wondered if you could give me some advice.
I've got a cisco 2501 that doesn't seem to boot anything, I haven't...
Thanks, works great, I was unaware of the secondary flag...very useful.
Anyone feel like running their eyes over my ACL's before I implement them and lock myself out? :D

I've got a cisco 2620 with 2 t1's bonded in a multilink configuration. I've been running it with 1 class C of IP's for the time being (lets call it 123.456.789.0/24). I just got my provider to asssign me another class c (lets call it (987.654.321.0/24) and route it to my multilink addres ip...
got this Ergotron LX LCD arm a while back and no longer need it. It comes with a desk mount that clamps onto the edge of the desk, or a grommet mount that can be put in its place for through through a hole in the desk. I drilled a couple holes in the side of the desk mount and had it bolted to a...
I picked this up a few weeks ago and beat new super mario brothers and haven't played it much since. Its a blast but I'm just too busy and could put the money toward car repair. The DS has had its bios flashed to boot off the supercard to the rom selection menu. If the supercard isn't in the...

Heh no offense at all, I'm willing to try anything now
No dice on the pci video card test, if I try to update the bios it reboots instantly right after I confirm I want to upgrade - right where it looks like it should write the bios. I also tried running off my friends ram last night and...
Well I ordered a board off ebay, I kept getting CMOS checksum errors, so I cleared the bios. I kept getting cmos checksum errors. If I try to access the boot order screen in the bios, it just beeps and doesn't let me. It keeps the time with the cord unplugged, but I popped in a new battery...
So I've got a dead dell dimension 8300 motherboard, socket 478b, p4 3ghz 800fsb, 2 256mb sticks of ram. I need to replace it since the ram/cpu are fine. Should I spend $80 on a used board on ebay? Pick up a cheap replacement board on newegg for $50 and a new case/cpu hsf? I'm torn. I want...
Either. You're problem is going to be the accessories, you'll probably want a macro lens, and a light tent so you can get nice even lighting without a bunch of refelctions.
Never shot with them both side by side in the same situation to be able to make that call myself, I find myself using trap focus alot in those situations anyway. But if we're talking like street photography with the kit lenses, nikon's is af-s and I imagine quite a bit faster than canon's kit...
I dunno about you but I don't have any problems using my D70 at high ISOs either. A pass with noise ninja and I have some damn nice looking prints. And who cares what the usb speed of the camera is, buy a $15 card reader anyway. But you won't change the mind of !!!!!!s heh ;) wtf fan boys is...
I was looking at those a while back at b&h and all but 1 were listed without tripod mounts so I imagine they're the old one touch versions with slower autofocus than the new ones. At least thats my understanding of them, I haven't bought one yet.
Heh it is the centralia carillon, aka the 8th largest bell tower in the world. Every day they play music from it. This was the only other picture I could find of it. Its not all that impressive really.
Thanks, not much done to the pic really, curve tweak, a little dodge/burn, and sharpen.
I like stormy nights, so this is a night where all the floodlights on the tower were off and lightning was all over. Sadly by then the lighting was pretty much done.
The D50 is more stripped down, I'd personally get the older D70 kit since its still cheaper with a rebate than the D70s. You'll have to judge if you'll use the features of the D70 that the D50 doesn't have. The D50 does seem to have better high iso performance and better out of camera images...
They're both fantastic, buy which everyone feels best in your hand. Two command dials and a better fit won the D70 for me.
Other points for me:
Keep your $600 70-200f/4L lens, I'll pick up a used 80-200f/2.8 for the same price or less and get a faster lens.
I don't think canon is the...
So lets be generous with losses and give some wiggle room and say I need 120 watts of cooling power. Does the submerged coil circulating fridge water sound like the only way to do it easily?
I've got this holding the chilled kegs http://johnmearns.com/albums/kegerator/DSCN1463.thumb.jpg and theres room in there for a large water reservoir. I'd like it to be a stand alone system but I think the cheapet and practical way would involve poking a couple holes in the back and running...
:D not right off hand. I'd say on average it will hold 5 gallons of essentially water 4-5F above ambient. Most of the work would be cooling the liquid below ambient. Is there a handy calc to see what it would take? If I wanted to heat that volume 20 degrees hotter over 4 hours it would take...
Its been a while since I've done any extreme cooling on a PC, I moved into sysadmin and networking, but I figured the experience everyone here has should help me alot.
When I'm not doing computer stuff I like to brew my own beer. While the yeast go to work on it you need to be able to...

I'm having writers block here and wanted to see if anyone had any ideas. I currently have a form that uses javascipt to dynamically add and remove lines to a form, the function it calls uses names for the field like length[] so I have an array for each value to do math on when its submitted...
Give us more details on your ports problem, we can probably work it out. I love ports with portupgrade and now portaudit. Great tools and they work quite well really.
As far as bleeding edge support, I dunno. I use windows for my desktop and freebsd for my servers. The right tool for...
I prefer freebsd. I like it better than any linux distro that I tried for a variety of reasons. Can I cite studies showing its better? Nope its a boxers or briefs thing.
The handbook, it will answer most of your questions, read this and the following few chapters:
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/x-install.html
Regarding the installation problem, never seen it myself, hit google groups and you'll probably find the solution. 5.x is...
Glad they work under linux, I'm running like 3 of the 960 based cards under FreeBSD and HATE them so much. The array builds and works fine, but the mlxcontrol program really can't do anything useful, or even much of what its documented to do on any of mine. They all seem pretty bitchy about...
