Want to extend wireless coverage in home

Whoops! Sorry all! The notification email that the forum sent went into my spam folder for some reason. I just thought no one else commented lol! Ok, so I made a discovery... the old Netgear router doesn't support WPA2, it just supports WPA. So while the key was set correctly, they were...

Want to extend wireless coverage in home

That's what I was thinking as well. The other day, I disabled the wireless on the D-Link. As soon as I did that, everything picked up the Netgear without skipping a beat. The D-Link has about 1 bar - 0 bars of service (when looking at most of the signal indicators of devices hooked to it)...

Yes I can. And I did a DHCP reservation, rather than a static IP.

Want to extend wireless coverage in home

That is an option that I looked into as well. However, it looked like the access points were twice the price of the router equivalent with less features. It didn't seem to make sense to buy an access point when I could just use a router for the same purpose. Is an access point a better option?

Want to extend wireless coverage in home

It's back to the LAN port on both routers now and internet is available on both. Unfortunately, all of my wireless devices still pull from the D-Link and none of them pull from the Netgear, even when standing right next to the Netgear. Any more thoughts?

Want to extend wireless coverage in home

I actually considered that. Everything I have read though stated that those actually slow down your throughput. Most articles said that I would not notice the slowdown while using the internet, but I would notice it on file transfers. Since I do a lot of file transfers, I decided that using a...

Want to extend wireless coverage in home

Thank you so much for the response. I apologize for the delay in responding, I had some account issues and was unable to post. It looks like the only difference between what you described and what I actually did is how I had everything connected. I took your advice and connected the Netgear...

Want to extend wireless coverage in home

Hello all, I am looking to extend my wireless coverage in my home. I have a D-Link DIR-655 router and I've tried relocating it throughout the house. Unfortunately, there are still several locations where I get very low to no wireless signal. I did some searching online and discovered...

    DVI/VGA Question

Hey all, I am looking at purchasing a laptop. The laptop I am interested in has everything I am looking for with the exception of a HDMI/DVI connector. If I use a VGA-to-DVI adapter, will it have the same quality as a laptop that just had a HDMI/DVI connector? Are there any other drawbacks...

Can you point me in the right direction? I've been all over newegg and the only ones that i've found with usb and ethernet connectivity only allow usage of the usb for external storage only... Here is my goal, my dvd player (OPPO DV-980H) allows me to plug in a USB drive to access movies...

    External HD Solution

Hey all, I'm looking for an external hard drive that allows me to connect to it via ethernet as well as USB. Does such a drive exist? The only drives I find that have a ethernet port state that the USB is only allowed to attach additional storage, not allow me to access it via USB...

    MP3 Burning

Hey PTNL. Thank you for replying. I looked at the software and it appears to support Vista. However, I think this software is doing the opposite of what I'm looking for. This software will rip music off of CDs, apply the appropriate ID3 tag, and then put it into whatever folder layout...

    MP3 Burning

Hey all, I'm looking for a burning program that will read ID3 tags and place them into whatever folders I choose when burning on a CD. For example, If I have three songs by Linkin Park, I want them to all be in a Linkin Park folder. The possibility of supporting other folder support would...

    20WMGX2 vs Any 24" Monitor

Thanks for your response, Light. That's my concern, I'm worried I'll have spent all this money just to get a monitor that I'm going to get tired of. Although, looking back, I've had this 17" monitor for about 5 years and it wasn't until recently that I started craving something bigger. Any...

    20WMGX2 vs Any 24" Monitor

Hey all, I feel rather stupid for posting another 20WMGX2 question on here (considering I posted one a few months back). I was ready to buy the 20WMGX2 based on the feedback from my previous post. Unfortunately, issues with my car took up all of the money I was going to spend on my monitor...

    Planning for the Future

Hey all, For the last month or so, I've been creating a computer on paper to ensure I have everything compatible before I make the big purchase. One of the areas I'm stumped on deals with the ram. I'm trying to buy everything with the assumption that I'm going to upgrade it later down the...

    Confused

I got up to the point where you have your domain and workgroup listed. I have the domain listed, but not the workgroup. Is it possible I have to share it a different way? I went to the printer > sharing > share this printer > ok. Firewall is turned off. I can't figure out why it's not...

    Confused

yeah i turned the firewall off already... as far as the workgroup goes, this is where i'm having the problem...because both devices are configured differently...one is on a workgroup setup...and the other is on a domain...trying to get those two to talk is the hard part.

    Confused

I apologize, I didn't make that part real clear. I've already done that part. Getting the laptop to see it is the hard part. It's not automatically showing up and any attempt to manually access it is failing. On another note, I can ping the desktop from the laptop. So at least there is...

    Confused

Hey all, Here is my situation. I work a lot from home and the office. My company gave me a laptop since I float between locations. When I'm at the office, I can go in and add nearby printers. When I'm at home, the only way I can print is to disconnect my printer from my desktop computer...

You know what's funny? I got real mad when I originally saw the first sentence of your post. I actually did do a search in here and didn't really turn up relavent results. Maybe I didn't search for the right things. Who knows. But then I saw your second sentence. And I...

Is the 20WMGX2 worth the extra price for my uses?

Just out of curiousity, what makes you "REALLY" want a 24"? Is there a specific reason other than it being bigger? I'm just wondering since I've always had an old 17" CRT. The 20" for me is already an upgrade. But if there is something I'm not considering, then I'd like to know.

Is the 20WMGX2 worth the extra price for my uses?

Honestly, I've got a cheapo CRT I'm using right now to hold me off. I built a crap temporary computer out of spare parts I had lying around (which is how I'm typing this to you). There are two main reasons I'd consider NOT waiting: 1) I always play the waiting game. Just as something comes...

    Dual Boot with Mac OS?

So I've been wondering. If the new Macs are designed with all of the same hardware that PCs have, then couldn't we just install the Mac OS on a PC? If so, I may try out a dual boot with XP and OS10.4. I haven't tried out a Mac since I was in middle school. So it would be interesting to see...

Is the 20WMGX2 worth the extra price for my uses?

Honestly, I'm budgeting in between those amounts. I'm thinking about 2-3k. Since I do plan on watching HD content, I think I have my answer. I think I'll grab the 20WMGX2. Although, I do have one more question. Are those differences THAT noticable? Again, keep mind that I know nothing...

Is the 20WMGX2 worth the extra price for my uses?

Hey all, Apparently, my computer received a bit too much electricty in a recent storm that past through. Sadly, it took out everything...including my monitor. Therefore I need to buy a new one. In order to explain how I use my computer, let me give a little bit of background info. My...

    Mobo Help

    Rerouting internet traffic

Haha why thank you! It's been a great router for me. Of course I only have four computers up to it, so I'm not even getting close to seeing how the whole thing can handle high traffic, but oh well. I love the configurablilty of the router. Of course, if this had an option to hook up two...

    Rerouting internet traffic

Well, it's a Netgear FVL328. It's pretty configurable, but I would definitely still classify it as a SOHO router. Feel free to check it out here. It's certainly one of Netgear's top routers.
