Porter, thanks a lot for your response and link.
I am really disappointed in KokChoy's response as I cannot justify buying a sound card that is going to require me to get on hands and knees to unplug my headphones each time I want to use my speakers. I'm quite shocked this actually made it...
With the X-Fi Titanium HD card from Creative, can I plug in my headphones into the *AMPLIFIED* rear jack as well as keep my Klipsch Promedia 2.1's plugged in at the same time? Will the sound come out of both? Or can I use Creative software to switch from one playback device to the other?
If...
Lifetime warranties on items that lose 90%+ of their value within 3 years are completely pointless and that is exactly why they are offered so cheaply. I bought Diamond, saved a little money, and my benchmarks are just the same as all the other reference cards.
580's are too expensive.
$500 is absolutely ridiculous money for a GPU. If you're going to spend that kind of coin you better have SSDs and a 27"+ monitor with higher resolutions or else your priorities are fucked.
I love seeing people on this forum with ancient CPUs, shitty hard drives...
I'm gaming at about the same resolution you are.
For higher resolutions, the 6970 makes even more sense due to the fact it has the 2GB of RAM. Still not as fast as the 580, but for the money difference....hell, I am going to buy the 6970.
I switch AMD/Nvidia every generation, I have no...
On some monitors the anti-glare coating is excessively thick and blocks the transmission of light. It will make whites look like cream. There is also a "sparkle" that makes it very difficult to read smaller, finer fonts as it "chunks them up". Think of it as looking through a very fine...
Yes, I am "nitpicking" because heavy AG coating prevents colors to be rendered correctly, makes it difficult to read fine, small-sized fonts.
AG is not always evil. But in some applications (Dell U2711 perfect example) it makes the monitor completely worthless.
I don't know what they are "meant" to be used for, but I use the ACD 27" for Black Ops and WoW and have absolutely zero ghosting or lag issues. FYI, I play FPS shooters competitively in a ranked clan.
Best Buy doesn't carry computer parts worth a shit anymore. It's all year-old+ stuff with outrageous prices.
Of course, they'll tell you to buy it from them online where they have better prices/selection but if I wanted to wait to get stuff I'll just go to Newegg first anyway.
When are big-box...
Then you haven't been looking at TV's in the last few years.
I got rid of my Kuro to get a Sammy LED TV that absolutely blows my Kuro out of the water.
I know this is off topic for this thread but if you are looking to purchase a new(er) video card, I'd pick up an Radeon 6870 or the soon-to-be-released 6900 series from AMD if you are interested in investing in DisplayPort -capable devices.
Yikes...your PC is the main consumer of energy in your home? I'm guessing you do not have a washing machine, stereo, refrigerator, drying machine, microwave, toaster, etc?
I'd love to know what kind of power supply you have and whether or not you let your PC sleep while you are away. I highly...
hi Stuey,
I think you will like this monitor a lot. I spent a fair amount of time testing out this monitor in my local store. The screen is very large and the resolution will be just fine for your needs.
The text on this monitor will be very large, as it will be on any 27" monitor with a...
There are GTX 570 (not sure about 580, but probably) cards out there that have regular Display Port connectors. You can buy very inexpensive Display Port -> miniDisplayPort adapters.
Atajo, I commend you on the amount of research you are putting into this. It is the right way to approach a $1000+ purchase.
If I had the opportunity to look at the HP ZR30W in a store I most likely would have bought that monitor as it has a lot of connection options of the Dell but with a...
Best: Radeon 9500 softmodded to 9700 that lasted me two years which was unheard of during the early 2000s.
worst: basically every video card made before 2008 - all were hot, lasted 1 year before they were obsolete, had noisy fans.
Modern GPUs are just so so so much better in every aspect...
You're 100% correct. SLI systems do not generate extra heat, noise, or cost any more than a single-card solution.
I'm getting 40+ fps with everything maxed in MW2 in 2560x1440 on a single (mid-range) card solution, Radeon 6870.
I'm not picking on you in particular but this forum is...
Hey, if you like the Dell and it makes you happy, then that is all that matters.
I hate Apple and their stupid force-feeding of their technology down our throats (why is there no DVI connector on the ACD? Moronic.) but like I said earlier, if you put the two monitors side by side as I did...
I want to know how many people in this thread have compared, side-by-side the ACD 27" and the Dell U2711? I'm guessing zero. This is something that I have done in my local MicroCenter store.
The difference between these two monitors is simply night and day despite them looking very similar on...
I just purchased this monitor. Running on Win7 x64.
I have downloaded and installed Boot Camp 3.0, 3.1, and 3.2 updates. No matter what I do, I am not seeing a Brightness tab in my Boot Camp control panel. Looking in my Device Manager I see that I have two unknown usb devices. When I play...
CRT fans are like the guys who can't give up vinyl; despite the overwhelming preponderance of data that refutes their claims, they cling to technology that is not only inferior, it has been inferior for nearly a decade.
Text, color reproduction, geometry, power usage, space, heat.....CRTs just...
This asinine comment adds nothing to the discussion.
If there is a market for a 30 inch 120hz monitor (And there is, because I'd like one) the supply will meet demand.
It's not a question of if, it's a question of when.
Right now I feel that we are in a terrible place in the display...
I have had a Das for the last year at home. I find myself wanting to use my home computer much more just because I simply enjoy using the keyboard. I wish I could find an affordable, quiet mechanical keyboard for my office.
Besides all that, am I the only one who prefers cheap keyboards to the...
Unless your eyes are within a foot of a 27" panel, that should never happen. I work on a variety of TN and IPS panels at work and I never have seen this kind of behavior with my photos.
Here here.
Would someone please explain to me why people give a sh*t about off-angle viewing on a PERSONAL COMPUTER MONITOR?
This isn't a TV...and if you're using it as a TV, you're doing it wrong.
Out of all the inherent negatives of using a TN-based panel, off-angle viewing should be...
This is a no-brainer.
The Dell has an awful anti-glare coating that makes it completely worthless for anyone serious about color accuracy.
The lack of a scaler on the HP ZR30W is a bonus, not a drawback. People interested in playing Xbox or PS3 on a LCD monitor aren't going to be buying a...
My suggestion is "none of the above".
The HPZR30W is superior to both since it works just fine with any modern video card, right out of the box. The ACD requires finicky cables and installation of their clumsy software.
The Dell has a terrible anti-glare coating that simply disqualifies it for...
Huh?
If his car has a DisplayPort output it will work with the monitor. He doesn't need an Eyefinity card to use the DisplayPort.
EDIT - Nevermind...I just saw that thread in the apple forum here on hardforum. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1462524&page=16
Jesus guys....I've read...
Your card should have 1 DisplayPort socket. You'll need to convert that to a Mini-DisplayPort in order to connect it to the Apple Monitor. So yeah, I think you will need that part you linked.
You may say it is unlikely but that however is exactly the conclusion made by this person who bought both monitors in question and compared them (along with the Apple 27").

Actually, you bring up a good point about the 30" cinema display. I saw one of these this past weekend and I totally agree, it has very bad AG coating. I would say that the U2711's coating is just as bad if not worse. Part of the problem is the very small pixel density of the U2711 vs. the...
From what I gather, the HP 30" ZR30W uses a less aggressive AG coating than the U2711. I cannot say this firsthand, but it seems to be the case as posts on this forum don't complain about the AG coating on the ZR30W. This HP monitor is roughly the same price as the U2711 and has very favorable...
This is worrisome. I don't understand why one OS would render text much differently from the other - provided DPI was set to standard 100%.
I really hate the fact that I cannot buy this monitor without risking a restocking fee. If it strains my eye, I'm SOL....I'll have to pay at least $150...
