    Ga-x58a-ud3r bios update - @BIOS

I have an old workstation with an ga-x58a-ud3r and X5560 wich I wanted to upgrade to an 980x. Since the installed bios version does not support it I need to update it - So far so good. The only problem that arises ist, that q-flash (the build-in updater) does only support 1mb flashing operations...

    Android 11 WiFi no throughput

I have a Xiaomi Redmi note 8 pro which received the update to Android 11 about two weeks ago. For the most part it's a better experience - good enough at least for me not willing to go back to 10 - but I have massive issues with the WiFi connection. Basically every time I do "something" the...

Finding a short on a graphics card

I have already tried both so it's probably a faulty GPU as far as I can tell but huge thanks anyway.

Finding a short on a graphics card

Yes, it's the direct cu II. The resistance from the phase to ground is smaller than 100m ohm and in between is probably non (as to be expected). I can't tell the exact numbers though since my multimeter is very imprecise. They are also not shorted to ground.

    pump noise D5

Disclaimer - I have never worked with a custom water cooler but know a bit about fluid dynamics and mechanics. What kind of pump do you have? In case it is a centrifugal pump it could air bubbles or a bad bearing. On a positive displacement pump it could be a broken rotor (or how ever they are...

    computer freezes

This is definitely strange - if you are sure it is caused by the psu it could be voltage fluctuations since as far as i know cooler master only re brands cheap power supplies. Which 1050 ti do you have? In case it's cheaper one it could have problems delivered the necessary voltages and...

Samsung and AMD = Quest type product?

I wouldn't say the silence has to mean much since Samsung slept for years on the gaming monitor market as well. But it wouldn't surprise me either - they had a quick glimpse into VR with the "successful" Gear VR so why shouldn't they try it themselves? I would be really nice to finally see some...

    Crypto Mining With A Smartwatch!

I can't wait to see the galaxy watch prices sky rocket due to all the mining farms XD You just need 200000 for the power of a single RX 570 - that's what I call efficency!

Monitors blip off then on after returning from sleep mode.

I'm pretty sure that's not the problem - but have you the same scaling on all the monitors? I once had a similar problem with windows rearranging the secondary desktop after powering on out of sleep mode.

    Video stuttering in Firefox

Have you looked into task manager? Maybe it's a bug and hardware acceleration is still active or the setting gets overwritten. In this case you could try resetting the options or reinstalling it in general. I don't know whether there is an option to keep all your cookies etc but it may be worth...

Finding a short on a graphics card

Firstly - sorry for the late reply and also for the unspecific title. I just wanted to be as general as possible. I tested the 280x once more and found out that the two shorted phases are the only ones not connected to the others. This makes me believe that those are actually not vCore but...

GTX 1050 Ti extremely low memory resistance

First isopropanol then fingers (as soon as I'm sure there is nothing on fire xD). The gpu got about as warm, as you would expect from a card with vCore but no vMem. The memory chips where only barely noticeable. I also put it onto my test bench (since if the memory controller is dead it won't...

Finding a short on a graphics card

I have a Zotac 960 mini and a R9 280X from Asus with a short to ground - the 960 on vMem and the 280X on the upper two vCore phases. Since there is no visible damage on both cards i proceeded to hooking up my power supply and setting it to 0,9V/1,5V. After slowly increasing the current up to 10A...

GTX 1050 Ti extremely low memory resistance

I have I a PNY 1050 Ti I want to repair - no visible damage or shorts on any voltage rails beside VMem. The resistance to GND is 1.2 ohms - probably a short I thought. Then I hooked my power supply up at 0.9V and slowly increasing the current but the GPU got hot and all memory modules as well...

Graphics card gets stuck on login screen

That's also what I thought but at least here in Germany they sell for as much if not more as a card with an actual repairable fault - are they just being stupid? I don't see the point in buying a card for as much as a card im going to profit of.

    Are BIOS chips interchangeable?

As far as could find out there are two major series for SPI flash chips - 24 and 25. Both have 4, 8, 16 and 32MB models which should be pretty much compatible as long as you have enough capacity and don't mess a 24 up with a 25 or vice versa. But is there a convenient tool to fill up a binary...

    Are BIOS chips interchangeable?

I don't want to flash an incompatible card - sorry for the imprecise language there - I have to select the card I want to flash the bios onto since the affected cards can't show an image themselves or are unstable I have to use another Nvidia card to do the job.

    Are BIOS chips interchangeable?

Is it even possible to use nvflash on a selected card? I've searched but found nothing regarding this topic. I don't have a dedicated spi programmer (jet) so my only option would be an arduino?

    Are BIOS chips interchangeable?

These cards only start a few out of many startups and when they do they don't have the same problem - sometimes they crash on the boot screen other times they get to the login or even run windows. And if you look up the bios version on a failed startup via another graphics card GPU - Z says...

    Are BIOS chips interchangeable?

Yes I can order the exact same chip but I would like to just keep one type in stock and use it for all card which need it. That's why I would like to know whether they are structurally similar enough to do that. :)

Newbie at Electronics Repair. Need Some Help with GTX 1070.

Does the GPU get hot - it should be to hot to the touch after around 5 seconds. If that isn't the case I could think of either a broken shunt or something else in the current measuring section or potentially no clock. Can you run the PC with the iGPU or other graphics card? If that's the case...

    Are BIOS chips interchangeable?

I have a few GPUs with probably defective BIOS chips. Since they are different and I would like to not have every single eeprom chip in existence in stock in case I need them some time I was curious how far interchangeability goes. Can I just use any SPI eeprom with enough capacity for the bios...

Graphics card gets stuck on login screen

I had a few cards on my hands by now with the same problem - crash on loading windows or login screen. Since I wasn't able to fix any of them I'm curious what can potentially cause this issue. I know about Vram damage, BGA damage, faulty BIOS installation or defective BIOS chip and of course die...

    Causes for GPU artifacts

I'm using this hot air gun and I pre-heat the board for around 2-4 minutes depending on the area. I also don't use flux since I had one card on which the the flux caused some of the solder balls to join. I don't know whether it was a weired one - time - incident but I have seen nobody so far...

    Causes for GPU artifacts

Thanks for the reply but the artifacts are appearing on boot even on room temperature and for reflowing I used of course a heat gun and not an oven since I'm not that silly 😋 I've come to the conclusion that it is most likely an die-trace thing since I've run across two other cards with...

GPU is getting power but no image

I don't think that's the case since I tried it on two different PCs and both are used with many different cards (since im trying to get into gpu repair) and I never had any problems with the setup. 🤷‍♂️

GPU is getting power but no image

My test board arrived today and I can finally take the measurements now: The voltages on the 270 seem perfectly normal and the 290 has 0,95 on vCore - which i suspect to be fine. vMem is 1.65 and these two phases have 1V. I'm not sure but I think one of them should be 0.8. The one in the rear...

Windows is not recognized and not loaded

Never mind - it just straight up works now. I woke up this morning and started the PC just because I could, touched nothing and it loaded. I have absolutely no clue what went wrong. But now I still have the two boot - paths of the installation of windows onto the two SSDs on my main PC. I...

    Causes for GPU artifacts

The inductors look a bit darker (maybe another brand) but the values seem to be the same. The solder pads on the left (at least if they are the ones you mentioned) are unused - even in the original - and just a bit fuzzy due to the hot-air-gun.
