    WTB - LoRa Equip | WTS - S.Deck 512gb LCD | Rift S

Have you considered running a Xeon e3-1226 or 1240v3? They're pretty much 4770 and are very cheap on eBay. I recently swapped a few out on Z97 systems

    New Silverstone FT02

Great points - I did consider taking the watercooling route but as I tinker and adjust the system quite a bit during the initial build out phase, it may be too much hassle and risk. In fact, I actually watercooled back in the homebrew era circa 1999 with my Pentium 2 building a full custom loop...

    New Silverstone FT02

Same, at same time Evolv X impressed me exceeding expectations. Much quieter than FT02 with many small details executed better IMO. Been a Phanteks fan ever since owning the ph-tc14 cooler

    New Silverstone FT02

Sadly I've reached end of the line with FT02 as modern graphic cards esp AIB designed are too just to large to fit. After getting a 3080 without realizing this would be an issue as FT02 has handled everything I've thrown into it for past 10 years, the clearance against the middle 180mm fan...

    The [H]ardForum Perpetual Freebies Thread

If you don't mind me asking, what's the use case? If it's to add ports for software raid arrays I'd steer clear and just get 8 port SAS controllers on eBay for about $25. These SATA controllers aren't built for concurrent read/writes and I had many bad experiences trying to run arrays off of them

SOLD: (2) WD Ultrastar DC SN640 NVME 3.8TB SSD

I have (2) WD Ultrastar DC SN640 NVME drives that was never used, 0TB written. I was going to run them in my workstation but decided M.2 drives are a better fit and easier to mount. Asking $160 shipped/pp in lower 48. $300 if you grab both. I'm a long time member here and have Heatware feedback...

1366 x58 Xeon Enthusiast overclocks club

Ah yes that makes a lot more sense and numbers look good. From everything I've read the marvel controller sucks on this board and perform worse than the SATA2 ports off the Intel chipset

1366 x58 Xeon Enthusiast overclocks club

Additional bad news it seems, Asus has removed the product page for my board (and quite a few older boards from their site: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P6X58DE/ this just redirects to the homepage now. This is unfortunate as I'm looking for the latest BIOS and manual PDF for this board...

1366 x58 Xeon Enthusiast overclocks club

rickmig very cool! I decided to stick with my trusty X5670 but X5675 definitely gives you an additional 1x on multiplier and I think W3680 is even stronger. Your first 128GB SSD benchmark looks off the charts, was it done with this board? Seems like there might be some caching going on. Using...

1366 x58 Xeon Enthusiast overclocks club

Nice nice! I've just placed an order for my X5670 to start my 3rd X58 build around the Asus p6x58d-e that I picked up. Twist this time, will try to run 8GB ECC Reg RAM sticks to max board out at 48GB total, beyond the "24GB max" limit

    New Silverstone FT02

Great choice, I've been looking around as well - not that the FT02 has any issues with my usage but just to consider future possibilities. Over the years I've had numerous Antecs, CoolerMaster, Lian-Li and Silverstones, now my assessment is Silverstone/Phantek will probably be my next case as...

I've heard lots of good things about ASRock as well, esp. their server stuff is interesting and innovative in terms of design/features. Funny they were literally spun out of Asus to handle OEM orders (part of Pegatron) then Pegatron basically decided to go after its maker ASUS and created ASRock

1366 x58 Xeon Enthusiast overclocks club

Every brand has their hit or misses for sure, personally my preference is Asus/Gigabyte then eVGA. MSI on the other hand won't touch if I could help it. I think they've improved over the past few years but working in a computer shop back in the 90s-2000s just put a bad taste in my mouth with...

1366 x58 Xeon Enthusiast overclocks club

OK so I just couldn't stay away from X58, picked up a Asus P6X58d-e that has the built-in SATA3 (I know crappy Marvel) and USB3. Now to get a Xeon and some RAM for it to see if this Asus can outgun my Gigabyte on overclocking. One fun/nice tidbit - Asus bios comes with VT-d (PCI-e passthrough)...
