    OLED Eye Fatigue

Most similarly sized LCDs at the same distance are better for me. I use plenty of bias lighting, and reducing blue light hasn't worked. This is an interesting take. I didn't realize OLED had bad MPRT. Just tested my Galaxy S8 and it wasn't pretty- 15.3ms. Potentially, and this isn't based on...

Can dimmer projector bulbs mean better black levels?

Ah, ok. I'm glad there are at least some mitigations. I tend to turn the brightness way down unless I'm watching some really fancy flic, anyway. Yes, you're right that black levels of projectors in this price range will hardly compare to even most budget IPS screens, let alone VA or OLED. I...

Can dimmer projector bulbs mean better black levels?

Just found this: https://www.avsforum.com/threads/optoma-uhd35-vs-uhd38-what-is-the-actual-difference.3190605/#post-60647510 Apparently, the UHD38's bulb isn't brighter than the UHD35, the UHD38 just has more white in its color wheel. Still, would be nice if someone with more expertise could...

Can dimmer projector bulbs mean better black levels?

Hi. I have read that the Optoma UHD38 does not have the best black levels due to its bright bulb. But, I haven't seen it pitted against its UDH35 sibling, there. Could the dimmer bulb of the UHD35 mean better black levels than the brighter UHD38?

VA better than IPS for eye comfort and reading?

Would be great, ya. With how low modern IPS response times are getting, an IPS with good black levels could be endgame display tech. None of the burn-in of OLED. Plus, let's face it, MicroLED is a pipe dream.

VA better than IPS for eye comfort and reading?

Gotcha. Ya, makes sense. I guess I'm in a minority that's bothered by poor black levels more than smear.

Also interested in other 21"+ CRT monitors. The G225f is one of my dream displays. Obviously, absurd long shot, but no harm in trying.

VA better than IPS for eye comfort and reading?

To say the UFO test is not as transparent as a white on black test in showing black smearing is true. To say the UFO test has nothing to do with it is hyperbole. Take any previous VA panel's UFO test, and there will be very noticeable black smearing. For that case of smearing to be totally gone...

VA better than IPS for eye comfort and reading?

I agree with everything you've said for pretty much any other VA. But, I don't know man. I think Samsung really did some magic with these new VA monitors. The worst black to gray response time measured by tftcentral was 14ms, which is lower than the whole response time of lots of IPS panels. I...

VA better than IPS for eye comfort and reading?

Some of the new Samsung VAs have TN like response times, which includes no black smearing. Check out the Samsung G7 on tftcentral: https://tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/samsung_odyssey_g7_c27g75t#Detailed-Response-Times

VA better than IPS for eye comfort and reading?

This is one of the main reasons why I think it was a good idea that, despite being 16:9, the VA Samsung G7 was curved.

    LG 48CX

Was considering the Alienware before I saw this, thinking it would be less laggy than the LG CX, not having the processing lag of a TV and all. 30ms is retardedly slow. Into the trash it goes. Almost slower than my IPS laptop. Embarassing for any gaming monitor, let alone an OLED one.

    OLED Eye Fatigue

Mobile OLED displays definitely do have PWM. My Samsung S8 flickers at 240Hz at anything below max brightness. I think it's due to power restraints making distortionless DC dimming like OLED TVs have impossible. Not sure, though. I didn't dig deep into Rtings before, that's good to know. What I...

    OLED Eye Fatigue

I like OLED a lot more than LCD. The superior color gamut, deep blacks, and motion clarity in particular are all great. However, OLED always seems to cause me more eye fatigue than LCD. I've tried eliminating PWM flickering with transparent overlays or DC dimming. It helps, but not to a point of...

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

Well, my G90f's vertical collapse is pretty much permanent now. Hopefully, I can find a repairman to sort it out if I can't myself. It was an awesome experience while it lasted. After mainly using a CRT for months, everything feels so laggy and blurry on my LCDs... I don't think I'll be able to...

There are some especially good (high DAC pixel clock) DP to VGA dongles that are USB C instead of full displayport. There are full displayport options that are just as competent. But, there are less of them, and they seem to be out of stock more often than the good USB C options.

I know high horizontal scan rates are hard on CRTs in general. But, can they cause or lead to vertical collapse?

True. ANSI contrast would definitely not be that good. But, not all images look like an ANSI checkerboard, so the huge potential contrast of 3400:1 can really help.

The point of zero-level blacks is for the cases where there is indeed enough black space for light-bleed to not drown it out as much. Sure, not all that common, but very noticeable in the instances where it is the case. My blacks really are still mostly zero level when I display the OSD. Of...

Ah ok- I have tuned it for zero-level blacks. Yeah, his was an IPS. I wasn't all that impressed, really. I commented on how low its frame latency was, but I didn't talk about how blurry things still were. LCD pixels just can't keep up with 240Hz where it matters for little details. But alas, I...

Hahaa. My friend recently got a laptop with a 240Hz screen and brought it over for some LAN. Of course, it still just couldn't compete with 720p 125Hz of my G90f in terms of motion clarity. Though, he was actually impressed with the colors more than that. But, that's probably just cause his...

Yeah haha. I'll still keep CRTs around when a display finally objectively trumps them in every way (minus flexible native resolutions. That's just physically impossible with anything other than a CRT atm), because of how legendary CRTs' decades of relevance were. Something to be remembered...

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

Alright. I'm curious how much life I can get out of it without replacing the IC chip, though. Even if I find the right part (no clue where to look yet btw), I'd probably hold off swapping it out just to see how long things would last. Unless that could cause issues for other components, then I'd...

Not in terms of motion clarity. It'll take awhile before any display is truly comparable. We've reached comparable black levels with OLED. We've reached comparable input latency with modern gaming TN LCDs. But, we have not reached low enough pixel transition or reset times to have comparable...

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

I see, ok. What does it mean if the vertical collapse happens only every so often, yet seemingly more often with higher horizontal scan rates, vs. being constantly vertically collapsed as long as the CRT is on- like in most of the examples I found on the net? Is it possible to repair this issue...

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

I see, thanks. From what I've read, it's an issue with vertical deflection caused by failure of the vertical IC chip. According to this article: https://riddledtv.com/journal/Vertical/ - I can fix the chip by re-soldering the bad connections. Would that be easier than just finding and buying a...

I have an issue where the top half of my ViewSonic G90f will go black as a very bright horizontal white line quickly swoops down to the middle of the screen. It only seems to happen at high horizontal scan rates, which is worrisome. Any ideas as to what this might be? It happens very seldom and...

Yeah, that was bizarre. Hard to believe an adult could be so insecure. So he has no clue what he's talking about, just because he wants to help in a PM instead of making redundant public posts? What a truly strange train of thought. I thought his offer to be more direct was rather generous...

1200x900 90Hz is definitely not pushing that beast! I'd want to be careful with it too. To me, it's the most attractive CRT on paper. 21 inch screen, .2mm dot pitch flat shadowmask, and 130 kHz horizontal rr all add up to quite the package. Have you tried gently jiggling the connection cables...

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

Speaking briefly, the top half of my CRT monitor's screen will randomly go black if the horizontal refresh rate is too high. In my case, .5kHz or more above its written limit causes it. Its written limit is 97kHz, so if I have it at 97.5kHz or higher, the artifact will occur. The higher the...

Most people don't have space for that, from what I've seen. Even in big houses, I often see computer desks in cramped spaces. But even...

Sony LISTENS to Voice Chats to Scan for 'TOXICITY' in Latest PS4 Update?!

Overwatch, CS:GO, and LOL (not to claim you, specifically, play them) are all prime examples of bad, sterile games that attract cheaters...
