Eye-strain with new monitor - how did you deal with it?

Did your former monitor have an IPS panel? XG43VQ is a VA panel, and VAs have this weird pixel alignment which tends to make text look blurrier.

    Do CRT's like 60 Hz?

I've read some guy who fixed them said it mostly comes down to the amplifier besides grill pitch. According to him the best CRTs capable of 1600x1200x100 with good sharpness are the ones with Hitachi FA4301 amp: FW900, F500 and F520 being the best. He also said you need a BNC cable for maximum...

Upgrading from 2500k to 10700k for single core performance. Is it worth it?

2600K should be fine for that. However, I do find 10700K at 5GHz all cores with 32 gigs of RAM to be a bit more responsive in day to day tasks than my olde system (2500K at 4.5, 8GB RAM). For example switching YouTube to full screen and back happens faster and smoother. Sometimes my old system...

Any new OLED monitors coming out next year (2021)?

That's the point I was trying to make: keep making 50+ panels, while shinking down CX48 even further.

Any new OLED monitors coming out next year (2021)?

I think it's too risky for them releasing an OLED PC monitor since burn-in is still an issue, nor is that profitable because they can still milk LCD. IMO It would be smarter for them to continue making smaller TVs which are as close to a PC monitor as possible while technically still being TVs...

Upgrading from 2500k to 10700k for single core performance. Is it worth it?

No problem, Taco. Since I bought 2500K in 2011 only 2 things greatly improved overall responsivness: SSD and 144Hz.

Upgrading from 2500k to 10700k for single core performance. Is it worth it?

I'll keep 10700k anyway so I can sell my 2500k while I still can. I just can't see a huge difference yet, unless I'm playing games, where the difference is HUGE even with the same GPU.

Upgrading from 2500k to 10700k for single core performance. Is it worth it?

So I got my new PC yesterday. A 10700K with 3200 CL16 RAM and a decent motherboard. I must say the single core performance is pretty disappointing. I got a 15-20% improvement in most cases and a 30% improvement in some cases over the 2500k which is not what I'd hoped for considering 2500k runs...

Need a good monitor, mine got busted.. I haven't researched in years, what's good for a 200 to 300$ budget Used or New?

Have you considered a 144Hz display? I know you're not a gamer but It just makes everything feel so much better (like watching levels in a mixer for example). Switching from 60Hz to 144 is kinda like switching to SSD. I'd go for a 1440p 144Hz+ IPS display, their image quality is great (there are...

Upgrading from 2500k to 10700k for single core performance. Is it worth it?

That's nice to hear. Have you noticed any other benefits in day to day usage? I did consider it, but 10700k has more cache and slightly faster clock speeds and I heard some extra cache could be beneficial for the software I use. Plus 2 more cores make it a bit more future-proof. I tried it...

Upgrading from 2500k to 10700k for single core performance. Is it worth it?

Hey! I've been using 2500k at 4.5 GHz since 2011. I use it for work and playing Overwatch. I was thinking about upgrading since Overwatch performance got terrible lately. However the software I use for work relies heavily on single core performance. So I'd like to get a noticeable boost in...

If you had $1500 to spend on a monitor set up what would it be?

I would be willing to spend even more, but for me personaly there's no monitor on the market worth spending $1500 right now. CX48 is way to big for me, and I wouldn't be comfotrable using it for work 8 hours a day due to potential burn-in. I went with a 1440p gaming IPS recently for ~$500, which...

Need help choosing new 27 inch monitor for gaming

To me wide color gamut is a big flaw rather than a perk. There's 83A but it has its flaws compared to 850: For me as a CRT owner black frame insertion was a must. And Asus has it unlike LG. It's nor perfect but I still find it very useful and turn it on when I'm gaming. And it doesn't kill...

VA better than IPS for eye comfort and reading?

I recently bought an IPS ASUS VG27AQ. No eye strain whatsoever. Can work on it for 8 hours and then game for 4 hours after that with ELMB ON and still no issues.

I wouldn't listen to someone who advocates wide color gamut.

VA better than IPS for eye comfort and reading?

Refresh rate doesn't cause eye strain on LCD panels because the backlight is not synced with it (unless it's ULMB in gaming monitors). However 75Hz is noticably smoother than 60Hz in my opinion and is nice to have. "Comfort" is very subjective. If we're talking eye strain / head aches then from...

WinDAS White Point Balance guide for Sony Trinitron CRTs

Huge thanks for the guide! I calibrated my G500 and FW900 and it really made a difference. I even felt bad selling my G500. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to reach pitch black black levels: I tried adjusting gamma through nvidia panel but I wasn't happy with the result because it made highlights...

You can't do that unfortunately. As far as I know, the only way you can estimate that is by running a calibration process in WinDAS and seeing how close the voltages are to their maximum values (my phrasing here might be not 100% correct). It's old and was not designed for LED backlit...

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

There are none except for rebrands which are just as pricey. Hence the price. A great alternative in my opinion would be a 21" CRT. The ones like Sony F520, G520, G500, F500 or rebrands by Dell are excellent. There are also 21" models by other brands like Mitsubishi. The only thing they lack (at...

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

That's not the problem. They would have to rebuild many production lines to produce various components. It wasn't profitable for them to maintain in the 2000s, it would be even less profitable to build everything from scratch today. A CRT display today would have to cost a fortune to justify the...

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

I haven't seen Eizo & Iiyama, but FW900 doesn't have the best quality amongst trinitrons to be honest. I like F520 better. FW900 has this weird phosphor / coating compared to other models. F520 and even G500 have better percieved contrast and color saturation in my opinion, while handling...

That's reassuring. Hopefully mine lasts at least a couple of years too. On a scale of 1 to 10, how close is it? I've tried Lucid Virtu MVP. It only woked well in one game, and it's not longer relevant. Wasn't able to find another working solution.

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

My FW900 has an issue. It becomes very blurry within the first hour or so after I turn it on, sometimes instantly and sometimes slowly. To get it sharp again I need to power cycle the monitor. Degaussing doesn't help. It usually takes one time, sometimes 2 and rarely more. After that it works...

Yep, F520 does that. You need to hold OK button (not Menu button, it initializes some sort of procedure showing bright white screen) for a few seconds while no active input is present, in case anyone is curious. It seems like F520 has more advanced electronics by the way: it warms up much...
