Happy to see that the responses to this question were all reasonable. I was worried. I worked with an engineering manager a decade ago that basically got this concept wrong and holy shit did I lose respect for him. Glad that didn't happen with this forum.
To stay on topic .... I just hope it...
Will upgrade from 55" C9 just to get BFI. The 48" size also means that I can push my desk a little closer to the wall that my "monitor" will be mounted on.
So ... the more apt comparison is 2 graphics cards based on the same chip. Their components are largely the same but with slightly different i/o.
I applaud you for spending $4k to play video games though. When I bought my C9 the AW55 wasn't out yet and I wasn't convinced it was going to...
I have the exact same setup but with a narrower desk and a SFF case. Curious how you got VRR working already? The latest C9 firmware update isn't available yet in my region (Canada) unless I mess around with a USB stick upgrade. Once it is available for download is it just a matter of running...
I'm playing Apex Legends at 1440p@120Hz with a C9 and 2080ti. Looks great to me. I sit about 3.5-4ft back. Looking forward to the LG firmware update that enables VRR. I'll upgrade to a HDMI 2.1 GPU when they come out but for now this is pretty close to the best setup possible imo.
With the latest announcements from nVidia/LG it looks like VRR over HDMI is a go. Super bad news for this $4k Alienware monitor ... it's off to the iceflow.
Couldn't wait. Just ordered LG 55" C9 OLED. Arrives tomorrow. I currently have a 980ti so I wouldn't be able to use the DP 1.4 interface on this Alienware anyway. I'm planning to run 1440p@120Hz using HDMI 2.0 for now. Will upgrade video card once HDMI 2.1 cards come out.
Really looking...
