Looking to replace an i7-2600 setup

That's interesting you say that, kirbyrj. Sorry for the late response here...was away for the weekend. My first thought was a 1660/1660Ti. I had just wondered if higher speeds from the RTX series, combined with more CUDA cores would be worth the additional ~$100. The research that I have...

Looking to replace an i7-2600 setup

This is what I would assume as well. Part of why I had figured to go ahead and upgrade from the 960. It has served its purpose at this point. I don't know what I'll do with it...it is a perfectly good card...I just need more. THanks.

Looking to replace an i7-2600 setup

So, I use a i7-8700K at 5.2GHz across all six cores to convert from time to time, and Quick Sync is horribly slow. Best I can get is about 90fps. My i7-2600 with a GTX960 was good for 160 or so. That motherboard is on the fritz, so, lots wrong with that machine. To the point nVidia CUDA...

Looking to replace an i7-2600 setup

I want...and maybe need the 64 PCI-e lanes of the TR. Even the third gen doesn't do that, and for what I do, PCI-e 3.0 x16 will never get saturated, so the NEED for PCI-e 4.0 isnt there. I know there wont be an upgrade path this route, but I THINK I am OK with it. If I can find a 16 core for...

    Stop Paying For Anti-Virus

Windows was more than capable. It could see shares on the Linux Mint machine, but not the reverse. Home group/workgroup was configured right. My logic works. The versions of Linux I have tried have always been poor to integrate in to a Windows network. I used it for the security of it...

    Stop Paying For Anti-Virus

Probably Lindows. I've not played with it, but I used Linux Mint through a few versions, and it was horrible on the network. Could not see anything on the Windows machines. So, no more Linux for me.

    8TB shuckable hard drive $121

The H700 has been tested with 10TB drives. I run 4TB drives on mine. It DOES need the lastest firmware to do it, otherwise 2TB is the limit. My H800 is working up to 36x6TB in a RAID6 configuration.

Looking to replace an i7-2600 setup

So, the motherboard that I'm using for my i7-2600 is failing. Integrated network is spotty, the primary PCI-e slot is sketchy at best. It's time to replace the entire thing, really. I want to get ten years out of the next build. The primary use for this system is ripping discs that I...

Setting up an FTP server with Xfinity

The trouble I seem to have is that the TLS handshake is the error. It Will connect, but won't retrieve the file listing. I use port 2700, with range of 2600-2701. I know I am missing something simple, but unsure what. Thanks.

Setting up an FTP server with Xfinity

So, I finally got it all figure out...mostly. I can get as far as it asks for login info. When entering Passive Mode, it says Server returned unroutable private IP in PASV reply. The fact that it can get to asking for login information says that the server IP is routable, and it is successful...

Setting up an FTP server with Xfinity

So, I have confirmed with Comcast that they do not necessarily block any ports, specifically the ones related to FTP or HTTP. I have used the Win10 FTP server tool, FileZilla, and one other that I can't recall the name of. None allow access to the server in the basement. I am reasonably...

Got it. I'm plenty new to this type of thing. I won't have a long run...longest will be 35'. Looking through things now...not finding the ultra cheap stuff, even on eBay, and part of my issue is needing a PCI-e 2.0 x4 adapter, I think. The x8 units seem easier to come by, but that's not an...

OK, now that I am home and can look at this stuff, it's starting to make sense. You're the second one to mention the Mikrotik units. Looking at them now, one thing I'm a little unclear on...I need to purchase the switch AND the transceivers that are mentioned above, right? This is the unit...

    One PC, two networks

So, in reading how others have done this, i may have overlooked something. One guy set up a VLAN and gets 176MB/sec over a 2Gb connection. I would readily settle for 350MB/sec over a 4Gb connection. Is the VLAN necessary? Next, regarding 10Gb parts, I have been looking at RJ45 solutions...

    One PC, two networks

Is it possible in a PC with multiple network adapters to have them run on separate networks? Meaning, one wold have one subnet and IP setup, and the other NIC being on a different subnet and IP setup. The thinking would be then that internet traffic and regular network traffic wouldn't get on...

This is good info to have. I just tried to run NordVPN router based, and it knocked my 180Mb speed down to 15Mbps. I was beyond pissed. Cancelled that right quick. I have a spare Pentium-D based PC that I may throw PFSense on it. Thanks.

    I did it! Link aggregation...

Had a hell of a time making it work, but finally got it to. Ultimately, I had simply missed one radio button in the switch to make it all happen. I still don't have another PC set to take advantage of it all, but seeing 4Gbps in the status window was pretty cool. I know this might not be a...

    MS Network Adapter Multiplexor Protocol

Oops. Sorry forgot to mention OS. I'm on Win10. I didn't realize that it wasn't used for quad chips on one card. That sort of defeats the purpose of space savings, no? Just for reference, my other PC, also with Win10 had everything good to go with multiple integrated chips on a motherboard...

    MS Network Adapter Multiplexor Protocol

So, I installed a quad port ethernet card in my PC, and am looking to team the four ports together. The hardware supports it, the driver supports it, Microsoft supports it. Problem is, when I go to enable the Protocol in the Properties box, it says that if I enable it, my selection will...

    Unifi AP-Nano-HD... Wow! Impressed

I was floored when the integrated WiFi in my recent PC build was able to run up around 860Mbps. Since that PC is rarely used for anything other than streaming (HTPC), it's fine, but I'll go wired with it after this next batch of network upgrades. Nice speeds, bro. I do like it.

Looking for RAID5 solution in a Dell PE2950ii

I was unaware of such a thing. A little research goes a long ways here. Thank you. Looks like RAID6 it is. One more question then...what of these so called "expanders" so that the controller can have more than just the six drives?
  36. I

Looking for RAID5 solution in a Dell PE2950ii

Yeah, I discovered the PE710 has the H700 in it. Costs a little more, but better CPUs, too. For $180, the 710 with H700 is a no brainer. Now to figure out how to expand from just six drives to probably ten.

    Cleaning Radiators from the shop.

I would do the final rinse with CLR or distilled water to get all the minerals out. If you can make it happen, rinse with automotive antifreeze or something like that. Not sure I'd use green, but maybe VW G12 coolant or something like that.

Time to update my data storage.

I like this thought, but to clarify...does this mean that you only have 1TB of cloud storage? Granted, my music and pictures (the things that matter most) would fit in that space, though just. But, if I wanted to throw movies and TV shows and such, well, 1TB won't come close. Just seeking to...

Hard finding my desired features at reasonable price.

My wife has the G7. I like it. She doesn't so much. Takes great pics, just like my G6. It's been reliable, though I don't know what you can find them for, pricewise. I paid $200 for my G6 gently used last year, just for reference.
