If you want quiet then you want a membrane keyboard. That's all there is to it.
FWIW ... my wife complains about keyboard noise ... so a membrane keyboard is best for me, too.
If this keyboard came with your computer, you're stuck with it. Dell might replace it ... but the new one will simply be another POS. So toss this keyboard and buy a better one.
If you bought this keyboard at retail ... just return it as a defective unit ... and then buy a better keyboard.
I haven't tried an optical keyboard. I've mostly used membrane keyboards ever since mechanicals mostly went away 20+ years ago.
Mechanical keyboards are noisy. I like quiet keyboards.
Some mechanicals are hypersensitive, responding to the slightest touch. I like a key to respond only when it...
So, you're calling me a maniac?
I guess I am. :)
Anyway ... this grease has a consistency about the same as toothpaste ... but it's oil based.
I just pop the keys out of their holes using a screwdriver. I spread out a big blob of the lube, and dip a tiny screwdriver into the blob to pick up a...
I found that white lithium grease solved my problem. I bought an 8 oz. tube of Lucas Oil lithium grease. Only $5.
I removed all the keys, lubed the perimeter of the "stubs" under each key, and replace them. The keyboard now types as smooth as glass. And it's quiet, too.
I would think I'd need to buy one at a retail store ... so that I can evaluate the height of the keyboard tray.
If the height is wrong the whole unit is useless. And you can't know until you try.
It puzzles me why they leave out the speaker grilles on these.
I can only guess that they save a few pennies of manufacturing cost.
But you pay the risk of damage.
A removable cord is just what I DON'T WANT in a headphone.
The connector is the most likely place for a cable to fail.
You must have one plug on the end of the cord. No choice there.
But I surely don't want a second opportunity for failure at the headphone end of the cord.
There are lots of small wireless mousies.
Size is all that matters to me in a mouse. I have larger hands, so I prefer a moderately large mouse. But some are too big for me, and some are too small. Just pick one that suits your hand.
You can find what you need just about anywhere, and for not...
I opened a thread here back in March in which I sought advice on a mechanical keyboard to replace my sticky Logitech Wave K350. I tried a high end Logitech mechanical, but it sucked.
So I thought I'd just put up with the Wave for a while. I then thought I'd try cleaning it (again). That helped...
Miniature phone plugs are a nuisance. They're just not reliable. The cable assembly on the plug is weak and is subject to breakage. And the jack is also unreliable.
You said you get a buzz when you jiggle the cable. That's a bad cable or a bad jack. (Not a shield problem, and not a ground loop.)
There are lots of wireless solutions meant for just your situation.
I cannot make a recommendation, but know this:
The regulations are changing and the previous generation units will be prohibited soon because of spectrum reallocation.
Buy something current. Something where the maker plainly...
I agree ... but that's just what happens sometimes ...
Each of my two monitors shows up as an audio device ... even though neither of them has speakers. Sometimes one of them gets selected as the current audio interface ... and I get no sound.
I tried disabling them ... and they get re-enabled...
If you can't think of any use for it ... then you have no use for it.
And this thing (with its E5607) is slower than either of the two computers I junked last year. So I cannot think of any use for that Dell, either.
Bought it for $15? Maybe resell it for $30.
I did too back in March.
Yes. And the keys are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too sensitive. I could not even rest my fingers on the keys. When I did ... I'd be unwittingly typing ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd.
Quite annoying.
I also had problems with the poorly located...
Okay, no more humor.
Diagnosis: Your mouse is broken.
Prescription: Buy a new mouse.
But wait ...
Your original post said "It's definitely the mouse and not a Windows setting."
Therefore my diagnosis, above, is redundant. You already knew it was broken.
You also tried to fix the mouse, without...
After the failed attempt with the G613 I stopped looking at this forum.
Today I came here on a whim ... and I found your "Pledge" post.
I'm going to try that on my K350.
You mother board is non-standard you say? Ok, it has got to go. Instead of fussing and worrying over adapters or compatibility or PSU power ... just buy a new computer.
Maybe this will fix it for you:

I care a lot about NOT overclocking. Too much trouble. Too much risk. Too much distraction. Not enough benefit.
The performance of today's overclocked, overpriced hot box will be available in a stock, standard-clocked box about six months from now.
Why pay more now for a small performance bump...
Those of you with "silicone" based CPUs ... when you upgrade, use the old CPU to re-caulk your bathtub.
It works well.
"Anyone watching what is going on closely that actually has a career in IT knows" this to be true. :)
I see that everyone is removing the drive from the Easystore.
I could do likewise ... putting it in my desktop where it would be connected via SATA at 6 Gbps.
But I'm thinking about leaving it in its enclosure and connecting it via USB 3.0.
So, question: Will it perform as fast via external...
It was never illegal before. And (from the above discussion) seems to only be illegal now ... IF the court opinion holds up.
And how is it "anti-consumer"? It's not. I just means "don't try to repair this because you don't know how".
If, indeed, you DO know how, then fine. Have at it. But if...
What a giant load of hogwash!
Golden age?
Boom times?
All in the past?
Nonsense. Today is golden. More capability. More power. More functionality. Lower cost.
What is it about ancient 80s, 90s, 00s computers that you find so attractive? Those days were not golden at all.
Let's see you...
I don't understand the objection. If you want the warranty, just honor the terms. Simple.
If you are unable to resist removing stickers then you suffer the loss of warranty. Simple.
Wanna keep the warranty? Leave the stickers alone. Is that so difficult?
