SO-
Opened the box and removed and reinstalled the round battery.
re-started and got the same messages.
Tried making all three devices as first boot device.( Guess I'm getting desperate.)
Still no luck.
Very frustrating.
Really appreciate your efforts to help me.
Thanks very much for your help gentlemen.
Presently Floppy is set as the first boot device..
I will be installing Win 98 second edition, and XP over that.
(what I have) :sorry:
I will do as you say, only installing Win 98 first. (if I can)
And report back.

Gentlemen:
Thank you for your responses:
I may not have been absolutely clear in my original post.
When I start the computer. The message that I receive in text is:
"NO DRIVES FOUND" (apologies for shouting)
Next message is:
"Re-boot and select proper boot device and press a key."
I am unable...
Thanks very much gentlemen.
Operating system is not able to be installed.
Instead I get a "No drives found" message.
Starfalcon:
Yes, using SATA drives.
Board is an Asus P5K.
This was to be my new old timey gamer.
All the hardware is set up.
When I boot up I get this message:
Detect drives done
No drives found
Re-boot and select proper
boot device and select a key
I then re-boot and go into bios and confirm that there is the Floppy, CD-Rom...
Appreciate all the help and advice guys. :)
I finally went with a Corsair 450W SFX 80+ Gold Certified.
Had good luck with Corsair in the past.
I agonized over how much power to give this, but your advice was most helpful.
Thank you.

Wow DooLocsta that is really old school.
I might have gone for that if I didn't already purchase a box.
See my thread on Top/Bottom Query.
Appreciated.
Rosewill Challenger. $49.99 shipped, at the 'bay'.
It's not delivery it's Digiorno.
This time I think I got the spelling right.
Just need a power supply, memory, and a DVD drive and I'll be set.
Appreciate your help.

You are right sir.
Profound apologies.
Senility has finally set in. :(
However got two great responses.
Ordered the box that I was looking at thanks to the input here.
Now have to find a PSU of about 400W to go with it.
Hmm...Just have to find a way to disable the silly blue fan lights.
D'Giorno...
OK...
One more question please.
I really need to choose a case.
The new varieties show the power supply mounted on the bottom and I found one that I like.
However, trying to justify a case with the PSU on the bottom where its in danger of collecting most of the dust.
(As well as cat hair) :(...
Many thanks GiGaBiTe.
Guess I'll refine my search.
I was looking at 500W units of the bronze flavor.
Trying to be careful as I read that power supply and motherboards made some input changes in the early two thousands.
Doen't want to get into trouble by mixing old/new tech.
Never cheaped out on...
Presently building a new/old machine to run 2002 era games.
The motherboard is a new (old Stock) Asus P5K which will be receiving a LGA Core 2 Duo.
The vid card will be 512 meg ram. (possibly sly) Not yet purchased.
I'll be running 2 gig of ram.
Really unsure about which power supply to power...
Many thanks Pendragon.
The first two show a 350W power supply included.
This may be a little light for my needs.
Looking at a Rosewell for $60. Has the power supply mounting on the bottom.
May have to change my thinking on this.
Really need some guidance.
Looking for a case to house a new build/old build.
Asus P5K motherboard, Core 2 Duo, with good old XP Home.
Looking for something that mounts the power supply at the top end of the case instead of on the floor. (what I'm used to)
Budget $50.00 to $110.00
Don't need no...
Many thanks for the link Wiz.
Looks like Dell was #1 on that hit parade.
My 24" Dell has served me the best of any monitor I ever had.
Most of the new monitors are featuring HDMI connections.
I need to be careful with my next purchase as I need DVI.
Surprised that the 27" BenQ Zowie didn't get...
Ditto:
That's the game that has me building a dedicated machine.
For the time being, I'll try to get Medieval: Viking Invasion installed on this old AMD box.

Been using a Dell 24" monitor for gaming and net surfing, that I purchased mainly from suggestions given at this forum.
So, I'm back again to seek your help. :)
This old Dell is very comfortable for net surfing, but I'm jonesing for something a bit larger, say 27" for dedicated gaming.

Thanks very much Polara.
I've saved your link in the event that I need it in the future.
I have already ordered a motherboard and core 2 duo cpu.
Need to look for the rest.
Cheers

Many thanks for your input.
I did check out an i7 build as per your suggestion.
It is very workable for some of the programs (games),;) that I'm interested in, and I have a vid card in a box that would work fine.
But it is over the top for all of the games I want to run.
I would be looking at...
Thank you gentlemen.
In my case, your both right. ;)
Ran XP many years with hardly a glitch.
However, one of the games that I want to install in this new/old box have had issues with XP.
So, its going to be Win Home-32bit. Even if it will cost me a few bucks more.
Appreciate your input.
Many thanks guys.
I think I'll concentrate on the motherboard/processor first.
Then, come back and bother you guys about the rest. :D
I feel comfortable with the core 2 suggestion. Maybe because it was in my old gamer before its destruction.
At that time my board was a Asus P4T-E. This was a...
Thanks very much for your assistance gentlemen.
Armenius:
Very helpful information.
I've also heard some mixed reviews about Aliexpress.
I'll keep them in mind as a last resort only.
Thanks Memnoch:

Back in the day my favorite turn based game was Medieval II Total War.
I would like to get back to those days, if I can.
Since I'm in a rural local my internet connection is via satellite. (slow)
So, I can't use Steam.
The operating system will be XP-Pro 64bit or XP-Home 32bit.
Really hope to...
Yes. Purchased from a nice lady that rebuilt computers to help keep the wolf away from the door.
This was kind of a stop-gap machine after I dropped my gamer on a hard floor.
Sorry to lose that box. (no post)
I am impressed with Gigabyte boards, which my daily driver uses.
They seem to use...
The Gigabyte logo on the face of the motherboard states that it is a GA-7XE.
According to the PDF that I was able to download this appears to be an Athlon motherboard.
According to the ticket pasted to the bottom of the case, the cpu is a P-3 650.
Can't get a better close-up of the ticket.
Many thanks for your help.
I was able to find the serial number for this board and saved the PDF manual.
Printed the pin-out and I should be good to go.
Appreciate all your help gentlemen. :)
Trying to set up an older Gigabyte/P3 motherboard.
Is there a logical progression that I can follow to install the case leads?
The pins for the speaker is marked [spk] but not the others.
Really don't want to fry anything, so I need help.
Yeah, I know its an old Win 98 box, but I would really...
Hi BOOnie
I actually discussed your post at with my daughter this morning. (also a gamer)
The consensus was:
That gaming is good for the soul.
Gives the mind entertainment after workaday stress thinking, where you do need to be productive.
This workaday stress creates ulcers. (wanna see the...

Really appreciate you checking in.
Never thought I could run it from the thumb drive.
Is it a problem that the thumb drive is 32 bit and I 'm running 64 bit on the computer?

Hy;
Pretty much what it says.
I'm looking at downloading 64 bit Cinnamon.
I'd like to install this on my Intel Win 7 second drive of 25 gigabytes. (also 64 bit)
This to play with prior to putting together a newer computer.
This time looking at AMD hardware.
Depending on my budget.
Any problem...

I connect via satellite.
Not very much bandwidth for a lot of money.
I'm presently running Win 7 on top of Vista OEM.
I may at some time cave and get Win 10 but I would rather explore another alternative at present.
Your post was very helpful Chukler.
Thanks again.
