I never went to Windows 11 - I've always been on Windows 10. Never left.
I didn't. I wasn't.
I never said I had upgraded - I think I maybe needed to be explicit about that. Sorry.
I turned on TPM in expectation of needing it on, for when eventually I upgrade, and noticed the hit to gaming...
So... in preparation for being able to install Windows 11 in the coming months, I enabled TPM on my Asus Z370-I mobo in a SFF machine.
A day later, but still on Windows 10, I played Rocket League, and a few other games, and found them to be awfully laggy - so much so, they became difficult to...
Hey all - OP here. Sorry about the long wait on a reply, from me - I'm now an uncle, that's why. Anyway...
I'm now just doing some thinking / considering, given all the feedback, and I've added some replies below.
I just wanna indicate that I'm grateful for all the advice - it was, and it...
Thanks, dudes, for the feedback so far. That is four votes for EVGA, and none for ZOTAC, sadly.
I say it's "sad" because as just your answers came in, I've discovered that other users have reported the EVGA GEFORCE RTX 3070 TI XC3 ULTRA 8GB does not fit in the Dan A4 SFF case without...
So to my surprise, I've finally found two 3070 cards available in my area! And both are exactly the same price.
Unfortunately, I have no idea which card is better, in their various respects.
My choice is between...
ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 3070 Twin Edge OC 8GB
EVGA GEFORCE RTX 3070 TI XC3...
Like you, I'm really interested in the "Extreme" segment of the Intel NUC lineup.
I went with a 7.2L SFF case about two and a half years ago... but come the end of this year, any new purchase for me is probably between a costly laptop, or a Intel NUC system.
I'm personally most interested in...
Okay, gotcha. So the 3080 XC3 Ultra Gaming version fits, and the backplate doesn't need to be removed.
Noted! Thank you! This is really good to know. Cheers.
I had thought the Black version would fit easier, because it is seemingly without a backplate... however as you said, the backplate...
This is wild. I love it.
Have you also removed the backplate? Did you need to remove it, in order for it to fit?
Also, is that the 3080 XC3 Black Gaming, or the 3080 XC3 Gaming, or the 3080 XC3 Ultra Gaming?
Edit / additionally... I wonder whether the XC3 Black Gaming version would fit...
I believe there are several variations of the NCASE M1 that have been released.
I've got one in storage in Australia (bought a few years ago, just days before a huge change to my life / living arrangements sadly occurred, and so could never be used) and so I'm wondering: how will I determine...
Do we anticipate that DAN will update the A4 so as to accomodate three-slot cards?
If i'm honest, I'm also hoping for a new A4 case with stronger heat management credentials... so I'm quietly hoping that the case will grow in size for these three-slot cards, and then given that change has been...
Thanks for the advice, DrDoU. I'll give it a whirl. Cheers.
It looks like Afterburner does so many other things... but that's cool - I'll just be using it for the fan control functions.
Simple quick question...
Is anyone able to recommend some alternatives to EVGA Precision X1 software, simply for fan control purposes.
I'm able to explain I think why Precision X1 sucks... if necessary.
Ideally, the software will:
start automatically, when Windows 10 loads,
start...
This video from Linus is a little dated now (almost exactly 2 months old) but it still expresses the "wait now for optimal parts, but accept risk" vs "get what you can, right now" options which were discussed by some of us above:
Hey bud - honestly, I didn't really feel comfortable buying a 2000 series card, either, knowing the 3000 weren't / aren't that far away.
But yeah, as magoo has said...
...and it's true.
I take your point though, Banya. I really do - buying something which is sooo clooose to being superseded...
OP here...
A big, genuine, heartfelt thanks to everyone for your advice, or feedback, or guidance in this thread. Whatever you call it, it was helpful and valuable.
As it turns out, I bought an EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER SC Ultra Gaming 8GB, which I am already really stoked with - I bought...
I have a 1050 Ti, and an 8700, on an ASUS miniITX mobo.
Do I wait for the 3060 / 3070, given this new series seems so close, or do I get a 2060 / 2070 Super today?
How do you folk approach this stuff?
I ask because it seems like madness (exaggeration) to buy a component like a 2070 Super...
One very quick question...
Who makes the shorter PSU cables which I think I'm seeing in these builds?
Maybe there is more than one brand out there.
I'm using the standard cables that came with my PSU, but shorter cables would be ideal, reducing cable clutter.
Two quick questions for LG 27GL850 owners...
1. Has anyone removed the red accents from the LG stand / back shroud? Maybe they could be removed, and sprayed? Or just some black contact / adhesive sheets applied? (I just really hate the red accents / highlights, and I just know I'd be bothered...
I plug a Chromecast into a Lenovo PC monitor, with a 1680 x 1050 resolution (a 16:10 ratio) and the picture is squished, from the sides. Human faces, for example, seem really narrow.
I plug the same Chromcast into an Acer PC monitor, with a 1920 x 1080 resolution (a 16:9 ratio) and the picture...
Rather than tossing a working card in a bin, which just sends it to landfill, put it in a ziplock bag (optionally with a piece of sturdy cardboard behind it) and take it to the local charity store / thrift shop / op shop, with values you don't object to.
Just write the details of the card on...
I'm considering buying the K83 Wireless Entertainment Keyboard, made by Corsair.
I'm just wondering what your experience with it has been like.
And specifically:
- can it be used with Android mobile phones? (I believe so, but your experience valuable.)
- can it be used in a "wired" mode...
A very quick question, from me, a n00b...
Is there any general performance advantage, at all, to having a system setup where the motherboard, and video card, are made by the same manufacturer?
If so, what exactly is the advantage?
I've gotta say, I assume there isn't an advantage...
A quick question for those in the know...
Which GPU brand generally has the best build quality?
If there's a tendency of one brand to put together cards with a concern for build quality, then this is what I want to know.
I understand that build quality probably also depends on the model -...
I hadn't seen it mentioned on the forums... so maybe it's not well known?
Personally, I wonder how the MJOLNIR stacks up against the v4.1 of the DAN A4 which is available very soon, I believe.
Their website...
I can't seem to find a 2560p x 1440p IPS and G-Sync monitor with the right set of strengths.
I now know this isn't newsworthy - choosing monitors is really about compromising - balancing / weighing various strengths against weaknesses.
So maybe I'm just venting... but still hoping someone...
I need to install ASUS FanConnect in order for the fan header to spin a fan?
Oh, goodness... that could indeed be it. Thanks so much, if so! I guess... I'll try it when home.
Maybe others will comment / reply, before I'm home, so I have a few options.
I have an Asus ROG Strix 1050 Ti which has a four-pin fan header.
I’ve correctly connected a tiny little Noctua fan to the header on the GPU, but the fan never really spins up – not even when the two GPU fans are spinning during gaming.
The little Noctua fan only spins for a second when I boot...
I have a NF-A9-14 (92mm by 14mm) Noctua fan sitting at the front of my Dan A4 v2 case, so beneath the PSU. It blows air, up into the case, having sucked it through the bottom of the case.
Is there also room for one of these fans (or another fan, if slimmer, or smaller, with different dimensions...
How do I work out the specifications / compatibility dimensions, of the old DAN v2 model, which I own?
The website currently gives the v3 specifications. And soon, I imagine, it will be giving the v4 specifications.
It seems to me that the top-tier GPUs can no longer fit inside the Dan anymore, given thickness of RTX cards.
Or compatibility is just a little more difficult, now.
I think I'd need to buy a Zotac rather than an Asus card.
Does anyone know if the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 2070 AMP Edition...
Thanks, dondan - I guess I got a bit confused about the measurements, so wanted to check with the community.
It seems, also, that some stores (like the one I tend to use) give incorrect measurements - see the "specs" tab in the link below, for an irritating demonstration of that...
Does anyone know if the "ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 2070 OC Edition 8GB" card would fit in the Dan?
I think the thickness of the card is gonna be the issue, if anything.
I'm already looking forward to a new version of the DAN A4, which might somehow both:
be compatible with slightly more of the seemingly thicker 20xx RTX series cards,
as well as fit an exhaust fan above the GPU / CPU, running cooperatively with the intake fan at the bottom of the case.
I'm...
So, compatibility with the three brands I trust, ASUS / EVGA / Zotac, is poor.
Damn. :(
Why exactly, though, are the ASUS cards incompatible? It seems like the reason given is the "slot width" of the cards... but I thought the A4 was compatible with "2 slot" cards!
I guess I'll wait on the...
Bummer - I wish I had known that before buying it the keyboard with the Romer G switches.
Although, that said, the Romer G switches have the advantage that the lighting is tunneled right into the underside of the keycap, and so doesn't leak out, at all, underneath the keys onto the board...
