Thanks! I've set HDR to Auto. When I enable HDR in Windows, the picture becomes white/grey and black text gets that blueish outline. Is this a matter of changing settings on the TV or because some other setting in Windows is wrong? I'm using Nvidia's colour settings to run 4:4:4.
Thanks! Turning up the black level definitely helped. I could only see the bottom row of squares (I had already played more around with the settings after the post). Now I can just barely see the first one and the rest can be seen. I tried with the brightness at 5, but I think it gets too dark...
I just got a 49" Sony XE9005 that I'm using for my computer via HDMI (HDMI 2.0 with a GTX1070). I want to make sure I'v optimised all settings, both on the TV and in Windows.

How is the monitor for web browsing. working in excel/word and maybe programming? Is there any eye strain because it is not sharp enough or because the colours blur out?
Is the infamous 4:4:4 test picture ( http://i.rtings.com/images/test-materials/2017/chroma-444.png ) sharp? I.e. all lines...
