    X570 Crosshair VIII Dark Hero

Yeah, I had trouble with DOCP but then I noticed the BIOS was pretty old so I upgraded and my b-die is working fine at speed now. From recollection, I think on my last board I did exactly that - just enabled PBO and left it alone after hours of tweaking.

    X570 Crosshair VIII Dark Hero

The warranty seems to be 2 years, so it is out of warranty. I did swap the board out this afternoon. I'm back up and running. I can research this of course, but anyone want to give me a quick OC tip for a 5950x? I lost all my settings with the old board and I had OCed it 3 years ago. :D

    X570 Crosshair VIII Dark Hero

I think it was something I definitely did, but not the end of the world. I got the replacement board at lunch and will try to get it swapped out tonight. If one of you guys lived near me, I’d pay you to do it - I hate this stuff now. Lol

    X570 Crosshair VIII Dark Hero

Yeah, this worked fine before I tried installing the nvme drive in the bottom slot and I’ll admit, I had lots of problems keep things steady so it’s looking like when something slipped I may have done something. The local Microcenter had 4 of the Dark Hero boards still in stock so I grabbed one...

I have a PSU tester buried in my closet somewhere but I also have a brand new PSU I could test with as well. Maybe I’ll try your suggestion. EDIT: PSU tester was actually sitting on a shelf so I grabbed it and tested - PSU is fine.

    X570 Crosshair VIII Dark Hero

The issue is that the machine isn’t really “powering on” - if I plug it in and turn the PSU on, I do see the start button on the motherboard and rog bling turn on but that is as far as it gets. Pressing the motherboard start button has no effect. And yes, I did remove the front panel connector...

Yes, I did the bios flashback earlier this evening and it did not fix the issue. I was going to try a different GPU tomorrow, as my patience ran out today.

    X570 Crosshair VIII Dark Hero

Hi folks, I need some help and advice. I cleaned my PC out today (compressed air, vacuumed the filters, etc) and went to install an m.2 nvme drive in the bottom slot today. I got everything reassembled but the PC will not boot. Inside the PC, the start button and ROG logos are illuminated but no...

50 years of video game revenue

I think you need to reread the chart. In 1989, handhelds barely registered and it appears console and arcade were neck and neck. I was a senior in high school/freshman in college then and the Gameboy was a blip at the time. I had C64 and Amiga back then (still have them!) and didn’t care...

Any one else using home internet from cell phone companies?

My Spectrum internet has had lots of issues so I bought tmobile as a backup. The download speeds are fine but the upload speeds are pretty bad. Still, for the price, it can get the job done when Spectrum goes down.

how many guys in this forum are IT pros?

I just bought a Unifi Dream Machine SE and a Unifi 6 Pro AP because I really need to restructure my network in order to get rid of my server. Finding the motivation to do it is super hard at this stage.

how many guys in this forum are IT pros?

I’ve been doing IT work since grad school in the mid 90s. I’ve been a consultant most of the last 10 years at a senior architect level. Like another guy in this thread says, my career path has pretty much burned me out to the point where I don’t want to mess with system builds in my personal...

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy threatens employees to return to office or "things are probably not going to work out for you"

They do have chat, but they seem to have gone to great lengths to hide it. A few months ago, they sent me two 8 TB drives rather than the two 18 TB drives I ordered and due to a UPS mixup (and, admittedly, a mistake on my part in shipping), it was a nightmare to get the refunds and resulted in...

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy threatens employees to return to office or "things are probably not going to work out for you"

Around 20 years ago, I interviewed with a well-known supplier of tech products. I wasn’t necessarily unhappy with my job, but this job was much closer (less than 10 minutes from home) so I thought I’d give it a shot and see what they had to offer. Their HQ was in California (this facility was...

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy threatens employees to return to office or "things are probably not going to work out for you"

CEOs often work multiple jobs - Elon Musk, for example, is CEO of several companies. Most CEOs are on the boards of other companies too, which is a paying job. So, if it’s good for them, it’s good for their employees too. I just don't have the energy for that - too old and cranky. :) The...

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy threatens employees to return to office or "things are probably not going to work out for you"

I’ve worked from home for most of the last 10 years, with a couple of brief stints at companies where I would go into an office most of the time. I agree with most of the comments here. My thoughts: 1. For me, I need to be able to concentrate for long stretches without interruptions. WFH is...

Texas Instruments makes it harder to run programs on its calculators

I think my 48G is dead. I found another guy who fixes them and spoke with him and he thinks it is unlikely it is just the keyboard since the “push the bezel down” trick isn’t working. I’d be willing to buy another but I’m sure most 48G calcs out there are on the verge of needing repair. I...

Texas Instruments makes it harder to run programs on its calculators

Loved HP calculators. In engineering school, I loaned my HP 28S to a friend and he “lost it,” so it was replaced by an HP 48G. I still have the 48G but it has an annoying issue that seems to doom most of them - apparently some rubber parts inside the calculator decay and eventually you can’t...

Texas Instruments makes it harder to run programs on its calculators

TI calcs? Back when I was in engineering school, we used HP scientific calcs! {insert old man waving fist at clouds GIF}. HP was pretty much a standard - first the 28s and then the 48G line. I don’t think I remember seeing any TI calcs. Casio graphing calcs were newish back then and this...

Anyone get their Steam Deck ordered?

I decided not to order it - I just can’t justify it and I found the page which shows which games in your library are compatible, somewhat compatible, and not compatible at all. That sealed the deal.

Anyone get their Steam Deck ordered?

Got my notification yesterday for the 512 GB model but am not sure I'm going to order it. It's hard for me to justify it at this stage. A couple of months after I put in my reservation, I got a Lenovo Legion 7 with a 3080 for gaming and 3D work. Plus, my gaming has gone way down. Does...

    Chair mat for carpeted floor?

It’s expensive (though it was $100 cheaper when I bought it 4 years ago), but the best chairmat I’ve ever owned is this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016ZNTADS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It’s reinforced glass rated at 1000 lbs. I was replacing the plastic chair...

    X570 Crosshair VIII Dark Hero

A few weeks ago, my system (5950x on a Dark Hero with 64 GB of RAM and a 3080) started powering off randomly while playing PUBG. I thought it was temps or maybe the PSU, but temps seemed fine. I went ahead and updated the BIOS and since then, it has been fine (so far). I’m going to start...

    Supply easing?

I got my EVGA notification yesterday and went ahead and bought a 3080 FTW for $900. I‘d be shocked if the new cards have any availability for the foreseeable future and I’m happy with my current 3080’s performance. I’m going to replace it with the EVGA model and sell it to my brother since he...

So if video card prices stay elevated for years, then what happens?

My 3080 will last me 4 to 5 years, just like my 1080 Ti did. Maybe I missed something, but i thought that the price increases were largely being driven by resellers and scalpers and not nVidia and AMD and as a result, they’re not seeing much of the additional money from the greatly inflated...

MrBeast Ranks as Highest-Paid YouTube Star Ever, Earning an Estimated $54 Million in 2021

I’ve only heard of Logan Paul and only heard about him a couple of days ago because he apparently spent some serious cash on some collectibles (GI Joes and stuff) and people were whining “HE SHOULD BE GIVING THAT MONEY TO CHARITY!!!!!! Bill Gates predicts our work meetings will move to metaverse in 2-3 years

Bill Gates predicts our work meetings will move to metaverse in 2-3 years

It’s really stupid. On interviews at my level, it is generally expected to have your camera on; I rolled my eyes at the guy earlier in the thread who said he wouldn’t hire a guy who turned his camera on in an interview. However, I never turn it on at work for meetings. We had a client...

What am I doing wrong when printing?

A lot of tips in this thread, but I personally don’t think your bed is level. You don’t have enough squish in your skirt lines and that’s indicative of too great a gap between nozzle and bed. How are you leveling your bed (sorry if you mentioned it)? Also, don’t be afraid to use a brim or...

Bill Being Pushed to Outlaw Bots From Snatching Up Online Goods

How do you define scalping? Some people think charging $1 over MSRP is scalping and whine and complain. One of my hobbies is Star Wars action figures, and if a guy goes to the store and finds some hard-to-find figures, buys them, and sells them in the online community for even a modest markup...

AMD Celebrates 5 Years of Ryzen Processors

I‘ve got a desktop with a 5950x, 64 GB of RAM, and a 3080 and a laptop with a 5900HX and a mobile 3080, so I think I’m good for several years. My record for longest primary rig is the 6 years I stayed on my i7-2600K system and I believe my 5950x rig could beat that record if it doesn’t croak.

Asus Dark Hero + 5950X Bios/PBO/Temps questions for non gaming PC

Yeah, your R20 temps are around what I'm seeing too and around the same performance (11200-11600 in my case, IIRC). You might be 1 degree cooler and that's probably due to airflow differences (My NH-D15S has a 120 mm fan in front and the 140 mm in the middle). I just installed my RTX 3080 last...

Asus Dark Hero + 5950X Bios/PBO/Temps questions for non gaming PC

Correct, at least for now. Stability is the most important thing for me so I’d consider reducing overclock if necessary. Even if I reapplied thermal paste, I doubt I’d see a huge improvement and I’m a little leery of AIOs after I had a pump die on one. I have zero interest in a custom loop...
