Intel CEO admits 'I've bet the whole company on 18A'

Intel is trying to avoid 10nm fiasco with going baby steps (Intel 7 > 4 > 3> 20A > 18A) instead of jumping to a new node in a single shot. 5 Nodes in 4 years is more like 2.5 nodes in 4 years in Intel's old nm terms.

Pat Gelsinger — Intel Foundry aims to build chips for all (including AMD's Lisa Su)

I do wish Intel to do well this time. I do not want to see TSMC being only game in town when it comes to leading edge nodes and Samsung has not been providing good competition for years.

Intel Releases Arc GPU Graphics Drivers 101.4148

Kinda hilarious they decided to use the game named Deceive on their presentation lol.

NVIDIA reportedly wants to cut TSMC orders for next-gen RTX 40 GPUs 5nm wafers amid lower demand

Not sure if Nvidia is actual beneficiary of CHIPs act getting passed though. Nvidia does not manufacture its own chips.

    Threadripper is no more!

I can understand AMD sees no future in non-pro HEDT platform, but making TRX40 one and done platform deserves a big middle finger from me.

Apples M2 looks like a beast.

M2 seems like pretty decent upgrade considering Apple had to reuse TSMC 5nm variant again with 3nm getting delayed for mass production.

    RTX 4xxx / RX 7xxx speculation

Ever since 2nd generation Kepler, Nvidia was always the ones launching ahead of AMD. Nvidia is not really rushing to launch. Since when the specs released by leakers became official specs? 🤣

    RTX 4xxx / RX 7xxx speculation

Oh man, didn't know Nvidia and AMD released new GPUs already. Please show us the benchmarks where RDNA3 GPU is winning in performance per watt over Nvidia 4000 series gpus. 🙃

Apple leaks M1 Max Duo, and M1 Ultra

It is not about today's GPUs having "performance issues", it is about improving the performance by eliminating the bottlenecks as much as possible between CPU and GPU. Reducing the time the data has to travel between the CPU and the GPU by being able to access the same memory pool will improve...

Apple leaks M1 Max Duo, and M1 Ultra

I have to disagree with you on unified memory architecture being just a cost cutting measure. There is going to be some huge advantages having both the CPU and GPU being able to access the same pool of memory without CPU and GPU communicating through PCI-e from system Memory to GPU memory...

Apple leaks M1 Max Duo, and M1 Ultra

I have a feeling that even 2 years later, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Baldur's Gate 3 will be the only titles included on Apple Silicon Macs vs PCs gaming comparison benchmarks lol.

Apple leaks M1 Max Duo, and M1 Ultra

Oh no, I am not disagreeing that Apple makes more revenues from gaming software/subscription than console manufacturers combined, just saying that "Apple Arcade" making more than them isn't a correct statement.
  14. J

Apple leaks M1 Max Duo, and M1 Ultra

Not that I disagree with most of your points, Games in App Store =/= Apple Arcade. 69% of revenue coming from games in App Store is not the revenue coming from Apple Arcade subscription service. It is not correct ot state that "Apple Arcade" makes more money than Nintendo, Sony, and MS combined.

Apple leaks M1 Max Duo, and M1 Ultra

I am sure it is not Apple Arcade but the revenue generated from the App Store.

Probably not. Would end up being too expensive for the target market for those APUs.

Apple announces M1 Pro and M1 Max

Well, that fully specced x86 Mac Pro has 1.5TB of memory and couple of Radeon Pro 6900XT so they are not exactly being screwed here lol.

The Current Dilemma: RTX 3080 vs 6900 XT

If you are going to keep your GPU for longer than 3 years. 6900XT may be a better GPU with 16GB of VRAM, if not, don't bother.

NVIDIA Ada Lovelace to supposedly power the next Nintendo Switch

I am a gamer in the 35-45 segment and I saw a plenty of switch advertisement as often as ads for the PS/Xbox and all those PC companies as well. If you never saw Switch ads, then It probably means you were never interested in the NIntendo device in the first place. Because social media/google...

NVIDIA Ada Lovelace to supposedly power the next Nintendo Switch

Then why are you even trying to argue about Nintendo's marketing strategy if you have not consciously seen one in the first place? There are even post in this thread here with youtube links that showed how Switch advertising is done these days.
  21. J

NVIDIA Ada Lovelace to supposedly power the next Nintendo Switch

That is grossly oversimplifying Nintendo's marketing strategy. Main difference between Sony/MS vs Nintendo marketing is that latter focuses more on the casual gamers. If you ever watched Nintendo's advertisement for last 10 years, they are pretty much targeting all demographics of gender and...

NVIDIA Ada Lovelace to supposedly power the next Nintendo Switch

Could be, but I don't expect actual numbers would be very far from it. There isn't a better data out there than EEDAR researched Data from NPD for sure when it comes to video game industry.

https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2019-02-11-eedar-nintendo-switch-attracting-more-women-wider-age-ranges-over-time https://www.npd.com/products/consumer-tracking/ I fall under the age category 35-45, and most of my friends enjoying the Switch also falls under that age category as well...

NVIDIA Ada Lovelace to supposedly power the next Nintendo Switch

Which is the reason why Video game industry keeps on thriving. But I disagree with your point that the Switch is only being marketed toward kids.
  26. J

NVIDIA Ada Lovelace to supposedly power the next Nintendo Switch

Age demographics of the Switch is more diverse than people assume. Switch wouldn't have been a huge success if it was marketed just as "kid's console" It is nothing more than an assumption that the Switch wouldn't appeal to older demographics.
  27. J

NVIDIA Ada Lovelace to supposedly power the next Nintendo Switch

I can totally understand why the Switch wouldn't appeal to some posters here, but I am amazed by sheer amount of assumptions and generalizations as if they represent entire demographics of people of their age.
  28. J

NVIDIA Ada Lovelace to supposedly power the next Nintendo Switch

That is nothing compared to hundreds of millions of dollars being wasted cancelling the hardware. Project and game cancellations isn't anything new in this industry.
  29. J

NVIDIA Ada Lovelace to supposedly power the next Nintendo Switch

No company would just cancel the project wasting hundreds of millions of dollars just because of the leakers. Switch "Pro" never made a business sense for a console that is already selling more than 20m a year.

Steam Deck officially announced by Valve

Well, for now, we have no idea if the base model has the m.2 slot and you can only upgrade the models with M.2 SSDs. And M.2 2230 is pretty expensive to the point that Base Model + 512 M.2 2230 pretty much becomes the same price and 512GB version has the anti-glare screen on top of it lol.

Several macOS Monterey Features Unavailable on Intel-Based Macs

Well, that requirement is for the development build demo running on UE5 engine editor without further optimization on lessor hardware though. I doubt the minimum requirement rising above 8 cores for a several years considering that is the base spec for PS5/XSX. UE5 even supports Switch(!) btw.

    AMD Stacked V-Cache

Well, the thing is, Sony and MS can sell those consoles with a little to no margin because console gaming market generates money on software sales and license fees, as well as the volume to support lower price. Similarly specced APU for PC market would be priced lot higher than it would be...

    AMD Stacked V-Cache

Apple's M1 has higher latency (around 96ns) on DRAM compared to typical Zen 3(around 50-60ns). Physical distance would matter for Inter-chiplet or cache where it goes down to single digit ns, but it wouldn't matter that much for DRAM since it already has high enough latency to the point where...

    AMD Stacked V-Cache

There is no particular bandwidth or latency advantage with RAM sitting closer to SoC, it is more for the power savings and cost.

    AMD Stacked V-Cache

Well, of course Apple has to design it first, but it is currently unknown if Apple has done the design already or has plans to do it in the future. Like I said, there is nothing stopping Apple if they decided to implement it on their future SoCs. With ARM v9 with SVE2, I would say x86-64 no...

    AMD Stacked V-Cache

Pretty much every known public company are interested in making more money. I have no idea why you are thinking Apple somehow wouldn't be able to afford to keep up with AMD/Intel, when Apple only needs tiny fraction of their overall revenue for R&D to keep up lol. I am assuming if they are...

    AMD Stacked V-Cache

Apple can and they will. Cost will be justified since Apple’s TAM is much higher than Intel or AMD. Heck, Apple makes more money than Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, and Nvidia. Combined. R&D cost is the least of the problem for Apple lol. Intel, at one point, owned more than 90% of those market you...

    AMD Stacked V-Cache

It can be utilized on N7, N5, and N3 node in the future as well. If Apple uses multiple chiplets on higher end SoC, I wouldn’t be surprised if it also has 2.5/3D stacking tech also.
