If your old drive is with HFS+ file format, you can use apple disk utility for cloning.

At work, we just have a working Mac book air with back plate opened and ready to be used as drive enclosure. Boot from usb to read the internal drive.

Some years ago I got used 256gb SSDs for $35 each in trading forums. I am still using them, one as internal drive and one as external portable drive. I can never bring myself to pay $320 or even $190 for a 512GB USB flash drive or any drive.

never have a problem with joining Mac to domain at work. Maybe you need to make change to the DC.

I'd use a SD or micro SD if possible. Get a microSD adapter that does not stick out.

We switched to gmail two years ago at work. I have kept using Outlook as email client - I actually like it a lot.
