1366 x58 Xeon Enthusiast overclocks club

So I pulled the trigger on a X299 system. Bought a 1080ti Poseidon along with that. Before I put that all together, I've stuck the 1080ti in place of the GTX 780 in my current X58 system to see if there's any issues or bottleneck here. Here's the result...

X58 reporting y'all. Just put the order in for X299 :)

Maybe it's summer. It might not look like it's overheating with OKish CPU temps but I still see instability when CPU reports max of 60 odd degrees under less than moderate stress in summer periods at an OC of 4.3+ 4.2Ghz is pretty good already for a X6570.

    Is Intel's X299 Platform Better than the X99? @ [H]

This reminds me: we are able to stick Xeons on our old HEDT boards, at least with X58 this is possible (not sure about the platforms that followed). Cheap used Xeons gave X58 a fresh breath of life from corporate server upgrade cycles. This is no longer possible with X299 which is another...

    Is Intel's X299 Platform Better than the X99? @ [H]

For me specifically, I was looking at the compile benchmarks posted on a couple of Threadripper reviews I read. I'm told that the Linux compile segfaults on Ryzen don't affect TR, which is good but it concerns me a little. I also work with a number of online based tools so I'm looking at some JS...

    Is Intel's X299 Platform Better than the X99? @ [H]

Regrettably I fully agree with you and I'm going to be doing the same. I'm on X58 and I've been eyeing this cycle for an upgrade for a long time. It's great having Threadripper to compete and I have been really looking forward to convincing myself in making the switch to Threadripper...

    R7 1700 vs i7 7820X vs i7 6900K

Exactly, this is [H]! Unsurprisingly, shit's gonna need power and get hot if you overclock it. My spider senses are telling me to get Threadripper over Skylake-X. This video is just compounding that thought.

ASUS ROG Poseidon GTX 1080 Ti Platinum Edition - Part 2 @ [H]

If anyone has any of the other pre-installed waterblock cards for comparison, it would be nice to see if any compromises were made here with the hybrid design in terms of cooling and overclocking. From what I can see the competition is: Gigabyte Aorus 1080 ti Waterforce Xtreme MSI 1080 ti Sea...

1366 x58 Xeon Enthusiast overclocks club

FWIW - I've had a i7-930 @ 1.41v for a few years and that was fine. Right now I'm at 1.4v @ 4.39Ghz for my Xeon W3690. I'm under water with a 420mm radiator and I think it can go higher but not too much higher as I'm hitting max core temp of low 80s. (plus ambient temps around 26-27 degrees)...

ASUS ROG Poseidon GTX 1080 Ti Platinum Edition Part 1 @ [H]

I'm totally in your shoes, the only difference is that I've already got a custom loop so I'm definitely going down that route. (Which by the way I highly recommend and it's easier than you might think, as long as you plan it out right) GFX cards for me -- it's just a case of whether to buy a...
